Nardwuar interviews Tyler, The Creator (2023) at his Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in Los Angeles, CA USA! Doot doo ! Nardwuar Merch & Links: linktr.ee/nardwuar
I love the respect that Tyler shows to Nardwuar. You can tell he genuinely enjoys talking with him, which says a lot for a guy who doesn’t do a ton of interviews
This is the calmest interview Tyler has had with Nardwuar. Their relationship has grown so much and it really really shows. From a goof trolling a goofy interviewer to a weirdly sexual romance and now two friends discussing their passions, music.
I just LOVE how the entire interview is so calm, but then randomly, they reference other ones that happened years back and it's just the most chaotic thing ever hahahahhaa
Man really set up a whole fuckin box for him. The mutual respect art wise is real. Two individuals inspiring each other. I wonder if nardwaur inspired Tyler as a kid
Nardwuar brought Tyler a fire vintage shirt that somehow matched _PERFECTLY_ with his pants, literally helped complete his outfit. This is why Nard is the best in the game.
Chaz was truly humbled by the praise. Bless him ❤ Toro y Moi was also the music I was listening to when I was in grad school... its integrated into a core memory of my life
This interview might be my favorite one Tyler has done with Nardwuar because you can tell Tyler genuinely respects him and is answering the questions with a more serious, passionate side than he's shown in other interviews. It made me smile a lot.
Tyler flipping through these LPs like a mfkn musical genius. Dude's incredible. No doubt on that ASD and no doubt it has contributed to his skill over the years. Sick interview thank you both.
I’m a visual artist but the levels to which this guy inspires me are astronomical. Seeing his rise, humility, grace, and passion for his craft is so palpable. Toro was right, bro has this generation in the palm of his hand and I can only hope to do the same eventually. Art is the future!
man when he brings up how the music industry isnt talking about the music anymore, and everyone is "eating chickens wings" and "sneaker shopping" really just shows how pure he is about music, and that his love he puts into his own music is just incredible. i wish i could talk to tyler about music and life forever
It makes me happy and gave me such a huge smile to see teens still wanting to see and listen to tyler. I am 26 now and remember listening to him when I was about 15. Powerful stuff.
I honestly wouldn't mind if Tyler had his own podcast just talking about his favorite records and what they mean to him. You can tell he's a genuine music nerd.
Tyler Emphasizing music being released during the week was so cool I’m glad he was able to articulate why into his interview 🙏 you can tell he genuinely cares so much about the current music landscape.
but I still do agree with music being released at midnight because waking up to something you've ben looking forward to has the Christmas morning kinda sense to it
Dude really gets the WHOLE picture. I don't even f/w most rap or hip hop, but Tyler is genuinely a genius. He understands the importance of music, the business, the image, everything.
Tyler throwing shots at Complex had me rolling. And from an old head, he’s made melodies that will stand the test of time like the songs he admires. I respect the humility though.
Perfect example of never giving up and being consistent no matter what people think. These two created their own lane and identity by being themselves. That's how it should be. Leaders not followers
13:47 What Tyler says right here is too real. I havent heard anyone bring this up, but its true. I also hope for a swing in momentum towards this and less towards gossip and trivial things.
love that throughout his chaotic career and his persona as a loudmouthed youth till now almost 15 years later he still shows so much respect & appreciation for the ppl who influenced him and directly helped me. very cool dude
I love hearing Tyler be so serious. In the last interview there were more jokes and gags but this time he was so serious and sounded so passionate. I love both sides but this was so interesting to hear him be so interested and answer the questions so straight to the point? So awesome
hearing him get so passionate and descriptive about the music he loves is so awesome to hear. as a fellow music lover i can understand his passion. love tyler sm
Tyler giving Toro his flowers was so wholesome. I feel the exact same way about his importance. Causers of This was the soundtrack to my life back in 2010. Junior year of high school, peak optimism about the next step in life, and pining over this girl I had a crush on. Simple times in hindsight. Things that felt so urgent back then seem so trivial now. Life is always good, but it was even better back then.
I LOVE these types of deep interviews that I think Nardwaur has long before become an expert in. It's so refreshing to see these celebrities show who they are as a person. I feel that majority of the time, people see celebrities as these fucking gods, angels, and omnipotent beings that can do nothing wrong and have no opinions. So it's beautiful to see these people just being themselves and showing that they are unique human beings that have various likes, interests, traits, and quirks about them that almost everybody else has and the only reason why they are put on a pedestal being everybody likes what is bc of what they do and how they are. It is just them being human. It's just so goddamn amazing.
Went to camp flog gnaw and it was my 8th time seeing him perform. As a fan i always feel loved and respected by him which is rare to say these days. Cant wait to keep witnessing his growth 🥰🥰
Blows my mind to see toro getting his much deserved flowers here. Tyler is quickly becoming one of my favorite artists of all time. He is so inspirational
YES!! Bring Tuesday release day back!! I always thought it was a nostalgia thing for me, but Tyler has a point about the commute listening. Thanks for another awesome interview you two 🤗 Ty + Nard 4ever.
such a profound taste in music and fashion. 💜i love how cozy these interviews have been over the years between tyler and nardwuar. not to mention, how tyler never sugarcoats anything. also, major shout out to toro y moi!
He's so right about releasing in the week, I first listened to Igor when I was 14 on the bus to school and cried as I got to class because I'd just heard Are We Still Friends for the first time ever, its the best first album listen I've had
I remember I went to Camp Flog Gnaw 2014. Ticket was more affordable and Tyler was less popular so it didn’t sell out so fast. It was legendary. Mac Miller was there to perform too. RIP Mac Miller 🕊
Cannot believe this is the same Tyler I grew up listening to and watching do insane sh*t on YT with OF. He’s stayed so true to himself and his passion through his launch into global fame. And I absolutely love his & Nardwaur’s dynamic. Every interview is such a joy to watch.
When Tyler froze at 25:29 after some time..., I was hoping for him to say the I LOVE YOU line and recreate his iconic smile, as he daydreams compared to what he did in the IFHY music video!!! HE DIDN'T. I STILL LOVE HIM THOUGH. Was a dope interview 😫😭💕
Tyler is right it is less about music. I always deeply value my friendships where I can discuss music freely. It's so amazing to analyse lyrics and chords and be amazed by music. It's one of the best things about being human! Thanks for another inspiring interview
I love Tyler’s thoughts on when records should be released. I remember ‘record release day Tuesday’, and picking up albums and listening the rest of the week. I skipped school to be there in the morning for some special albums. You can’t replicate that.
It’s insane how far Tyler has come. I would of never thought he would be as big as he is 12 years ago when I was a kid on the bus listening to Bastard.
It still amazes me the depth that Tyler describes the artists that Nardwuar brings to his attention. He truly loves music; very inspiring to go and listen to different genres and find something new and to really listen. That what gives Tyler an advantage over most artists: his knowledge.
I love just hearing Tyler talk about his relationship to the Clancys, you can tell it's more than just a partnership and the bond they have is genuine.
He makes such a great point about how interviews have become based on gimmicks and an artist's lifestyle as opposed to the actual bodies of work they put out. Things are so focused on the persona as opposed to the art now that people feel like theyre owed something by these artists because they have this false sense of connection to these people and their characters which is gross and just sets them up to be disappointed when their faves try something new or different.
Love it when Nard and T get together. The ending is hilarious!! I was there again this year!! I didn’t see Nardy but happy to report that I was in the pit for Tyler’s set !
Thank you Tyler. He's so right about releasing music throughout the week. Music is meant to heal people through their work day, not to be part of the break in our work culture.
I had tickets to see this man in 2017, and I couldn’t go because my sister had a college exam and I wasn’t about to go see out boy without her. Still hurts my heart we missed his show.
I love how Tyler still views himself as a student who can always improve upon his sound and vision. It's really what separates him from every other artist out there and why his output is so consistently excellent.
