*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.

Congratulations on being a host! You have our support and encouragement. I hosted last year and it was marvelous. The concessionaire and district rangers were great to work for and made it a breeze for me. Your smile says it all.

Sweet! I'm happy for you and me both. I lived in Rifle up until a year or so ago when my adventures took me back east of the Mighty Mississippi. It was a treat being a co-pilot with you in Rifle and the surrounding areas as I reminisced about my adventures there, all awesome. I hope I didn't babble too much. A young lady I watch on YT is also a campground host in the mtns of CO, she got hired on the spot, too, and had to make a quick trip from AZ to CO. She is 40 miles from a town, at 10,500' elevation. She says the hardest part is kicking people out! Looks like a perfect location to have some down time and enjoy the sounds of the forest.

If you are commuting to and from Rifle and Meeker or Meeker to Craig on 13 be aware lots of deer and elk on road. Also ranchers move herds of cattle and sheep on 13. They want you to keep moving at a crawl to get thru it. If you stop it confuses the animals. Lived there for 6 years in the 90s

what are all the bugs on the hwy? Looks like reddish giant crickets or something. There was a caution sign saying the road is slippery due to all the squashed bugs. Literally millions on them!!! And the smell!

Congrats on camphosting. We camp hosted for 6 years when we decided to live the Nomad life. I’ve made best friends to this day meeting people through camp hosting. On the flip side you will see the craziest things campers can do while camphosting. Good luck to you brother.

My husband daughters and I hosted three years in Alaska State Parks. We had a blast, meeting so many people from around the world. Enjoy hosting. After we retired my husband and I hosted two years in Washington State Parks. We recommend it highly! Have fun on this new adventure!

Welcome to the area I grew up in. I'm from Steamboat, but we spent a lot of time in the Flat Tops (to the north) and that area. Glad to see a van lifer in the Northwest part of CO, my favorite part. We might drive up and visit you this summer.

I imagine you'll shop in Craig. I lived there 10 years, until 2 years ago. Drove and fished all over that area. The burger joint in meeker is pretty good. The old hotel is worth visiting, the elk and deer mounts are old and impressive. The history of it is interesting.

I spent 2 nights in Leadville 2019 at an RV park since I had to do laundry. I also got a pizza at Mountain High Pies and wrote in my camping journal "good pizza"

Brian, Welcome to Colorado. Sorry to learn about "the split". We camp hosted for several years at a couple National Parks and a State Park. Over all it was a great experience and we enjoyed our time doing that. We met some great folks in the vast majority. Once in a while a grumpy unhappy camper comes along and there is little you can do to help them. Keep up the great attitude you have and let it roll off. You are providing a great service for little pay. Enjoy your summer and experiences. You are a good guy.
