I’m working on my own region currently and my starters are all based on cryptids. The grass type starter is based on a Jackalope. Also, Lapras is my favourite Pokémon and I love the redesign.
6:45 Huh, I would have figured that the snoliath line was gonna be based off the *Glacier Island Carcass* , a giant 42ft fur bearing reptile’s preserved cadaver supposedly found frozen in a large glacier on the titular Alaskan island in 1930
Sableye is actually already based on an American cryptid! The Hopkinsville Goblin of Kentucky! It’s really interesting and I’d suggest looking into it.
@@PragMagik , I mean speculatively speaking since tomeye is based on a cyptid based in Cornwall England and since galar is based on the U.K. I though perhaps for regions like Unova, The spinoff Orre(Based in Pheonix, Arizona) and Cornera. Maybe tomeye would originate from Galar but maybe become more well known from miners in Cornera with what you said in the video. P.S Sorry this comment is long but I was trying to say if hypothetically speaking would that be the case.
@@Pokewhisperer_Adrian The fact that only Hoennian Sableye is found there and the vast amount of Roggenrola and Rolycoly, It is no surprise that this form doesn't exist in Galar. Both of the Mines are small and completely block the sunlight except for the entrance and exit. Furthermore, Carkol rolling down the mine tracks pose a danger to Pokémon, including Sableye, so they tend to hide in the darker parts of the caves/mines
I really love Tomeye! The design is very clever and it ties into sableye's original habitat really well. It doesn't feel like a half-assed regional variant done to make a favourite pokemon look a little different, but it feels like a real adaptation that a pokemon had to make in order to survive! I also love that it's friendly to miners. :") I love them and will protect them with my life.
Growing up I spent a lot of time at my grandma's condo on Bear Lake and I love that anyone acknowledges this wierd cryptid that I was convinced my uncles made up.
Oh, nice! I made a rock-type Sableye variant for my region too! Well, rock/psychic, hehe. Since my region, Cantessy, is based mostly on Kentucky with elements from the rest of the states that hit the Appalachian mountain range, it only made sense to "bring Sableye home" in some manner because they're based on the Hopkinsville Goblins. And then I evolved it into an agate-covered Flatwoods Monster just because XD
I absolutely LOVE the Snowliath and Bolterror lines! Also on Boltini and Bolterror, you drew some inspiration from the molduga from BotW, didn’t you? Coincidentally I was playing the game while watching this video 🤣 but I love these new cryptid mons.
Shiny Snoliath could be black, referencing this way the Partridge Creek Monster (basically a black furred/feathered ceratosaurus, AKA a carnivorous dinosaur with horns.)
I also made a Slide rock bolter (the rockslide whale) Pokémon. Though my was a regional rock ground Wailord that was also based on beached whales, because these Wailord were beaches on mountains somehow
Really enjoyed the video tbh. It would be pretty cool if you did more fakemon based on cryptids, mainly fearsome critters like the Jersey devil or snallygaster.
The bear lake monster is named "Isabella" because there was some sort of competition and a little girl won, the reward was having the monster named after you.
Been watching your Pokémon videos for a while now I find it so interesting the research you do on the Pokémon. For you to find a cryptic based on Cornwall is crazy as I live in Cornwall! I live in the county of famous mining. That version sableye is such a cool idea! Keep the great content coming 👍
@@PragMagik thanks so much for the reply ! Watching your videos has gave me a lot of inspiration for my own Pokémon videos, thanks for the great content!
Happy to see the Hodag! Living in Wisconsin while also having a lot of ancestors in the logging business, I heard it's story a lot through my childhood
It is fun to just hear about someone saying stuff about bear lake. I live about a 1 hour away from bear lake, and the northern area of bear lake which is in Idaho.
The video gave me a ideas for a Pokemon gimmick, basically pokerus started to form mutant pokemon, and it starts to spread making pokerus more common. Pokerus is still beneficial for Pokemon but gives them new forms. Also there would be a device that would infect pokemon with pokerus.
My favorite criptid fakemon is Sabledy and his New evolution + the psoude-legendary line and the Boulder Whales!!!🤩🤩 And the Cornerian Lapras cool, really cool!😎👌
It amazing how Americans have more werewolves than any country 1:09 plus tomeye looks dog like it was the tail, the claws and the ears that gave it out plus he looks for minerals like a dog looking for something Edit: imagine a Scooby Doo variant
Hey man, you just copped a new sub! Somewhere between Pokemon, mythical legends, and a bonus drinking game, you really grabbed my attention. This is the first of your videos I've had the pleasure of viewing but I can assure you, it won't be the last (hence the sub).
"a jackalope is a jackrabbit with the antlers of an antelope" 1. Antelope don't have antlers. They have horns. These are not the same thing. The distinction is that antlers are made of bone and are shed, while horns are usually made mostly of keratin and are NOT shed. 2. Jackalopes have the antlers of a deer, usually a red deer or similar species.
As a fan of Sableye to the point it would be my shoulder Pokémon I like your regional variant also funny enough I also came up with a yeti themed pseudo but are Ice/Fairy type the line goes from Yetice the Snowball Pokémon that hide from humans by digging into the snow then Slushsquatch the Snowball Pokémon that uses ice crafted picks to climb steep cliffs and stores supplies it’s backpack made of ice the final form I had a name in Cryoptid a corruption of the words Cryptid and Cryo but I’m not liking it but it’s classification is the avalanche Pokémon and uses reflective ice goggles to deter any nosey humans on its territory thus making it a myth in most areas
I wish there was a cryptid pokemon based on The Bloop, a hypothetical marine animal first heard in 1997, Could be some sort of Water/Ghost type due to the haunting sound it made
Bolterror special skill: creates a tall hill and slides and brings a huge rockslides/landslides(depends on the biome) to attack the opponent.skill name "mount/hill slide"
Just a thought, but I think what made the legendary birds so legendary at the time is how "normal" looking where compared to other Pokémon, yet anything known about them was so little. Think about it, in the world of Pokémon people are used to see kaiju like monsters capable of burning entire cities, and befriending creatures that should be at least extint in our world. But what captives their imagination are a bunch of beautiful birds. Just birds, but birds that no one is sure there exist in the first place. Many fans think a legendary should always be this godly beings with fascinating lore, when in reality the most remembered where those when no one knew if there where real or not in the first place. In that regard Meltan was the best mythical in recent times, no one was sure if it was a Pokémon or just a placeholder, and people where wondering for days about it. That is how you make a "cryptid" Pokémon.
Making 'mons about cryptids is straight-up just a good idea. I feel like cryptids are the closest the United States has to yokai. xD It's really cool how Boltini and Bolterror sort of did for the Ground type with Wailmer and Wailord what Cetoddle and Cetitan ended up doing for the Ice type (if that makes any sense). Also, holy frick, this even has an Ice/Dragon type pseudo-Legendary; it's, like, almost a prediction video; that is really cool.
I was thinking of making a regional variant of Buneary's family as a Dark type off of the fake taxidermy to add to it's tricky nature - and that slopes disease does give me an idea to incorporate that later on.
I kinda feel like giving these Pokémon abilities, stats and the like would be kinda pointless, since you’re never gonna make a fan game for this, however, I do really like this series, and you look like you’re having a really great time with this, so i’m okay with it.
This is something a lot of people don't seem to realize but zarude is technically a cryptic Pokemon as it is clearly based on the British cryptid of the fiskerton phantom
I know this Pokémon would not be found in the cornera region (because it wasn’t spotted near or in that area) but a cryptid Pokémon based on Moth-man would be very cool! Perhaps dark-flying?
Cryptid Creatures, dude I can name 5 right now based in the northwestern. I follow cryptids ever since I was 20yrs old. -Colossal Claude -Batsquatch -Devils Lake Monster -Dogman -Gumberoo I hope these help you to get more cryptid fakemon.
