Welcome to Part 2 of Beren & Luthien, and thank you for the continued patience between parts while the structure of this book sorts itself out and while my house is finally outfitted with internet befitting the 2020s - rather than the early 2000s.
This part contains two very different renditions of Beren and Luthien's story. We have the Lay of Leithian, which was Tolkien's attempt at a verse version of the story - which is not unusual for him if you're at all familiar with his work on Old English, Middle English and Old Norse.
The second iteration is a much closer approximation to the version that we get in the Silmarillion - where I wager most people know Beren and Luthien from. And having now read the earlier 'Tale of Tinuviel', you should be able to fully appreciate just how much iteration actually went on behind the scenes as J.R.R. Tolkien fleshed out and created the world of Middle-Earth.
The running commentary from Christopher Tolkien also continues throughout these sections of the book.
Please enjoy.
