Yeah, even the AVGN 2-part review wasn't as good IMO. Clement's felt more explained and, most importantly, passionate. I still like AVGN and his review was ok but I didn't feel it was as good.
@@cadethumann8605 I think the issue is that its clear that James....never played Sonic Adventure or the other games leading up to 06. Its clear that affected the passion and knowledge he could have had during the review, and he has that confusion and lack of context that makes fans cringe because, well, he wasnt physically READY to review it, ya know? The review wasnt BAD, but its clear that his lack of knowledge on who Shadow is, let alone how modern sonic works, and his absolute lack of mention of the adventure games had severely stunted the otherwise decent review.
This video is such a blast from my childhood, I used to be obsessed with watching this entire multi part video essay over and over in 2012-2013 ish. Something urged me to go find it again and I’m so glad I did!
Adam Kyles Even though that Sonic 06 the worst Sonic game ever may had some positive to it like the soundtrack for example, there were a lot a flaws in it that people were really pissed about. People who likes to see a Sonic 06 review about how the game suck really enjoys to bash the game even more beause it sucks just as much they like to bash Sega for doing this to them and even though they already that see review they would love it to see it again. Plus it's awesome and funny on how clement reviewed Sonic 06.
Why don't people get that I've said everything I have to say about this? I'm sure you're right. I just don't care about this subject anymore. How do Iv get rid of these "Notifications" that keep coming up at the top of my screen?
+Andrew Ramos *scientist And yeah, Clement should do more rage reviews. I know he said he doesn't want to be an Angry Video Game Nerd but this review is incredibly entertaining.
I still come back to this one every year or so. Different times man, it’s so cool that Clement has been able to keep a little bubble of 2010 youtube alive and well on his channel.
Congratulations Clement. After over a decade, the first part of your Sonic 06 review has reached 1 million views. The second video of your channel to do so.
I Have The Advantage and what if he had a mental breakdown after he’s been told so many things about his identity. And almost goes to black doom, but had a revelation that it doesn’t matter who he was in the past. Only the now. And he puts the past behind him.
Doctor Nefarious Number 1 And the characters in that movie are better than the characters in the Modern Sonic games after Unleashed because they actually have multiple dimensions. Sonic from Colors to Forces is the stereotypical, self-aware cool guy that is annoying; Sonic during Adventure 1, 2, and Unleashed was able to backup his cool, cocky attitude, he was righteous, and he knew when to shut up when things got serious. Eggman from Colors to Forces is goofy and constantly makes a fool out of himself to the point that it’s not really possible to take him seriously anymore; Eggman during Adventure 1, 2, and Unleashed was able to be intimidating and sometimes would fool Sonic. Sonic in the movie was not only cocky, but he was actually vulnerable to loneliness. Robotnik was a mix of Goofy Eggman and Threatening Robotnik, which was cool. I want Sonic characters to go back to their charming roots, especially Shadow, who in SA2 is one of my favorite characters.
Doctor Nefarious Number 1 If I was the new CEO of SEGA or Sonic Team, I would want to get Sonic back to his good storytelling roots. How I would do this is retcon all of the storytelling of the 3D Sonic games after SA2, with the exception of Unleashed. I would bring all of the characters back to their charming roots, like Knuckles with him opening his heart and guarding the Master Emerald, Tails with his leadership and mechanical intelligence, and Sonic with his fun yet righteous personality. As for some of the newer characters like Rouge, I would make her similar to Jessica Rabbit for how she is more than just a sexy batgirl, and I would develop her relationship with Knuckles. To satisfy the fans who love Shadow, I would bring him back in a spectacular way, and I would not make his personality edgy. When he returns, I could do something similar to the MCU’s Winter Soldier for him being brainwashed, and Sonic tries to save him. There will be some people who will disagree with me bringing Shadow back to life, and they would want him to stay dead, and with the Shadow we have seen throughout all of the 3D games after SA2, I don’t blame them. But since there are Shadow fans, which is why he was brought back to life in the first place, I think the best compromise is to bring him back without changing his vulnerable and sympathetic personality established in SA2. As Shadow loses his brainwashed state, he will have a battle within himself to determine if he will remember who he really is, or if he will continue being a tool for Eggman or someone else evil. This inner battle will make us sympathize with Shadow, and when Shadow officially returns, he will be exactly how he was in SA2 and will help Sonic protect the Earth so that he would always abide by Maria’s wishes. Shadow in SA2 is once again one of my favorite characters, and I hated the change Sonic Team made to him by having him be edgy. It comes out of nowhere as well. What part of SA2 gave the slightest hint that Shadow should be edgy?! Was it the fact that sometimes he crosses his arms?! Was it the fact that Shadow was supposed to be a dark Sonic clone?! It is so irritating and stupid! Also to keep with the continuity of the previous games, the story that would come next after SA2 would involve the broken moon affecting the Earth with the weather and tides, and Sonic has to stop it by finding something that could grant him a wish to restore the moon back to its original shape.
This is the video game review equivalent of the Mr. Plinkett Phantom Menace review. A multi-part video essay that doesn't seem that informative on the surface, but actually provides tons of in-depth analysis on both the game itself and its impact on the overall franchise. THIS is how you do long-form analysis.
Sonic 06 tries to be grand and ambitious but fails to a ridiculous degree. Sonic Boom doesn't try very hard to be great and is so boringly mediocre that it might as well be nonexistent. So whether Boom is as bad as 06, I don't know. Pick your poison I guess.
Mr. Brock Lee This is subjective but the fact that Boom was mediocre in just it's pursuits makes it even worse. Sonic 06 is at least hilariously entertaining with it's ambition and failures at it. On top of that, you have the dumbest glitches or all time and they're also pretty funny to see. It's a so bad it's funny game, while boom is just bad and boring at being bad. At least more so than 06 was.
Mr. Brock Lee By that logic, Sonic 06 is enfuriatingly bad. Sonic Boom isn't. And 06 did much more damage to the franchise than Boom. I mean, Boom didn't almost kill it as boring, bad or unfinished can be.
@@MrAkatsuki42 Chaos Control to slow stuff around him means that he's technically faster, sure he don't need the boost to tag Silver, but it does increase the power of the kick, let's say he slows time to 0.5 times, that means his kick is twice as powerful
I just realized something. They wanted Sonic to look like an adult. His canon age is 15. He's a teenager. The only reason that they would make him LOOK like an adult is if they wanted to MAKE him an adult. And yes, I know this game is a reboot, but the game isn't even canon anyways. Just keep his normal design.
To anyone who wants to change Clement's mind about this game... Silver: IT'S NO USE! unless they remaster it to NOT be terrible... Yeah, that's actually a good idea. SONIC TEAM!
I blame Sonic 2 for Not giving tails the ability to fly and become Super tails same thing in Sonic 3 Alone tails should've transformed into Super Tails just like Sonic CD. And Knuckles in Sonic 1 should've said Knuckles got all 7 choas Emeralds to give the ability to become Super Knuckles just Like Sonic 1 and CD.S&K Knuckles should've jumped higher enough.
@@izehumaheyiba2182 if you own Sonic Mania, Tails can become Super Tails with the regular Chaos Emeralds but unfortunately he doesn't have the gold flickies in that game
Too bad Shadow will never have an epic moment like kicking Silver ever again since SEGA has officially trashed Shadow's character. What a slap to the face for us Shadow fans...
Shadow isnt trashed, they just havent used him... Go play generations, in the end he has a tiny part in it... However it would be cool to put him into a game again
SexyBabyJesusZ I have played Generations and yes I liked how he was incorporated as a Rival Battle but the only reason he and Silver were even put in there was because it was an anniversary game covering all of Sonic's gaming history so they kinda HAD to put them in. As far as being playable again that is just sheer fantasy at this point...
Even though Sonic 06 nowadays has had a lot more positive receptions and having a pretty steady fanbase, this review I think has aged pretty well despite it's overall age
@@okagron Based on what this game did to the franchise it is probably still considered the worst Sonic game ever made to many people, but this game was trying to be something special and would of worked in SEGA's favour if the development for this game wasn't so atrocious.
@@marioandloveyaplushmasters3374 Pretty much the only things that still make the game relevant are the Game Grumps playthrough, the Real-Time Fandub, and Sonic P-06.
Nintendoman I have been on the internet before. Chances of me being serious were FAR less than if I were joking. Therefore you should have just assumed I was joking LIKE MOST PEOPLE WOULD HAVE and moved on.
Nintendoman His comment was straight foward. Again, the "IGN" at the end of my comment should have gave you that signal. That's a popular thing people do when reffering to a bad game. You can't justify the fact that you couldn't see the joke dude.
You know what this game needed to make up for being the intestinal swill that it is? A Sonic Says. Right at the end, after the credits roll, a Sonic Says suddenly pops up: "Hey kids, beastiality is wrong. If you're an animal and a human starts hitting on you, what do you do? You get out of there!" That would've made up for (almost) everything.
Petman5312 That is true, but there are some people out there still considering Sonic '06 to be up there with Ride to Hell: Retribution on the list of worst video games of all time. They are not on the same *level* as terrible. Not even close...
Blackbullnova69 Oh, and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric came out a week after my comment, and that game is arguably worse than '06 since at least '06's glitches are entertaining.
Nope. This is. Clement is just stuck in the past. He's a millenial who is clearly very attatched to the 90s Sonic and doesn't like any deviations from it. J's Reviews has a MUCH better take on why Sonic 06 failed and what made it suck (even though the title is SOMEWHAT clickbaity) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vT5v4AoeobA.html
@@shadowthehedgehog3113 While I agree J's Reviews take on 06 is better, Clement doesn't hate Modern Sonic games. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OOFl6s4Kg0w.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bb6IS2o_J5U.html
Holy shit. when he got to the part where it said (Ive been playing for 30 minutes) I thought it was a joke I checked the time and it really was 30 minutes. Well there goes the subscribe button. Cause I just clicked it.
37:07 Reminds me of Toht’s death when the ark is opened in IJ: Raiders of the Lost Ark just the way he looks up and opens his mouth and screams loudly. Love it
Is Sonic Boom or 06 the worst one? Take your pick. Clement has picked his one. He picked his one for his own reasons. And some other people picked Boom for their own reasons. I may dislike Boom more because it's so bland and boring in comparision to 06, but I think Boom was a more solid game than 06. It had the same quality all way through. (Not good in my opinion, but consistent and average.) 06 is a huge mess of different incompletely programmed stuff and the game didn't know what to be. When looking at 06 from that perspective, I can see why Clememt prefer Boom over 06.
Sonic Rodriguez So you're saying instead of calling it "Sonic 06" we should scream "SONIC THE HEDGEHOG" as loud as we can when referring to the 2006 game? :o
This whole review is longer than Titanic (1997), The Godfather (1972), The Godfather: Part II (1974), To Boldly Flee (2012), The Lord of the Rings I, II, III (2001 - 2003), Avengers Endgame (2019), and The Irishman (2019). And it is still glorious all these years later.
06 is so much better than Boom because it's more entertaining, funnier glitches, and amazing music. Boom doesn't have ANY of that. It's all just a fucking snore fest with a lot of boring ass button mashing, bland and forgettable music, and just more monotonous than 06. Even the glitches aren't satisfying to mess around with either in fact, while the glitches weren't intended in 06, it's more fun to fuck around with and you can even use the glitches at your advantage and to skip annoying parts of the level. And it even had better hub world than Boom but not my much. While 06's hubworlds weren't amazing, at least it had character and something going on in the hubs. Boom's hubs were extremely empty and lifeless. Overall, 06 isn't as dull and bland as Boom plus it was more exciting to play through.
That you dedicated so much time to this review means you really care about the Sonic Franchise - good work on that. I think it's so awesome that you could recite lines from Adventure too.
You tearing this game several new assholes over the course of 3 hours is genuinely the only worthwhile thing to have ever come out of Sonic '06. Well that and the game's soundtrack. And I'm not kidding when I say that I have watched this review in its entirety about 10 times now, it's just THAT good.
I'm a week late, but happy 7th birthday to this amazing review to what is now a 13 year old trainwreck EDIT: Well, now it's a decade old. It's amazing how fast time goes by.
I was recently playing this game (Yes I play 06 wanna fight about it? :p) and the most unusual random thing happened to me on Sonic's hard mode Flame Core. Okay so I homing attacked the goal ring and I glitched through it. Then the results screen loaded up but I was still playing as Sonic like normal! He didn't do his victory animation! On top of that Sonic's victory quote was for the D rank yet I actually got an S rank!
***** Everyone hates Sonic 06 because of how broken it is and all the promise it had which was ultimately never realized. It promised so much yet gave so little.
Instead of adding the pointless side missions and BS gameplay styles, the game designers could’ve and should’ve added an extra stage A.K.A. Green Hill just like they did in Sonic Adventure 2 because Green Hill Zone brings so much nostalgia.
9:06 None of the characters in Shadow the Hedgehog swearing bothered me with one exception. . . Sonic. All of the other swearing characters seemed more mature and I understood why they could swear, but as soon as I failed the second mission that had Sonic in it, I was speechless when Sonic said that word. He was the best character ever, he was someone that could do no harm, until he ruined my childhood by swearing.
Steve Spud Okay, you didn't have to read this you know. You also didn't need to comment. If you couldn't handle my over exaggerated comment than you could have just ignored it.
