Let's Talk About Defense In NBA 2K24... 

Two things I’ve notice this season is that a good shot contest goes in way to consistently plus the amount of speed boost people get off the cuts

My 25cents. Defense on 2k24 only works in extremes meaning you damn near have to make a lockdown to play real defense 95 speed, 95 perimeter, 95 steal , 95 strength block, HOF badges.. because 2k caters to offense. For instance the sliding on defense is still in game. I have a player w 99 perimeter defense on offline I still struggle to control the player on defense that's defensive assist high and low doesnt matter because the input lag is terrible on this game. 2 they nerfed steals because everybody was crying when they couldn't dribble the air out of the ball without getting plucked. Now let's talk about shot contests.. 2k will literally slow your player down when closing out on shooters to help the 3 chuckers , when they pass to the shooter somehow your player is stunned and stumbles ( never saw that in basketball a day in my life) and when you close out on a shooter even with HOF challenger there is a invisible wall preventing you from getting a contest ( it will literally make you jump in the wrong direction and even when you do get a good contest when you are damn near touching the shooter it says open or barely a contest. How? Then if you get too close its a foul 2k is literally making up nonsense to help these goofies score. Dont get me started on rediculous screen mechanics eveb will HOF pick dodger i get pull into screens and stuck so the PG can left right until he gets a shot off the centers will literally hold their nuts the entire possession and no illegal screen is called when it should be but will be called randomly, The paint defense once again is terrible, players will get an board go back up and 2k will give this unblockable Bs lay up that just goes in all net even tho you are jumping with a 92+ block the ball just magically goes is. This game is fundamentally broken so the offense can flourish no matter what cause all these dudes wanna do is score.. I have literally locked up PGs and because they couldn't jamal murray / John wall me to death they quit the game . The culture of basketball has made defense and after thought and 2k is just following suit. The community cried for this stuff and this is what we got.. play a game of rec and you will see 4/5 players will have basically no perimeter defense especially the PG which makes no sense. They made shooting extremely EZ season 3 and that's fine just don't punish us for playing good defense with made up/faulty mechanics. EDIT..oh yeah that stupid "dexing" BS 🤬 who came up with garbage.. a player will literally quantum leap to the ball faster than u can keep up even though he was jogging or walking suddenly the pass is thrown and it pulls the player through your body to the rim or to wing for a wide open shot and its literally undefendable. Its another completely nonsense mechanics to handicap the person trying to play good defense and bail out the offense. Been playing 2k since 2k1. This is by far one the most imbalanced 2ks ever made as fat defense is concerned because they will literally stifle you and punish you for caring about defense because we dont want anybody to cry because they got locked up severely.

My biggest problem is when Perimeter defenders don’t communicate with their big or paint defenders. These dudes are usually slower and can’t just react on a dime, so a simple “Hey my man (guard) has a 96 driving dunk and your man (Big) has a 86 3pt, if my man beats me, pick him up and I’ll recover to your man and switch off if he doesn’t try to finish”

8:16 this is so true I been locking up these guys with a 7’3 with 46 speed and I watch the other players get blown by these simple cuts when standing in front of them completely ends their cuts without even trying

I'm a lock 95 steal 94 perimeter 87 block 83 rebound 75 interior and Im very much able to defend. Its just hard when your team can't do the same. With 2k the whole damn team gotta be locks in order to play good defense. I think it's more of the game is ass when it comes to defense and most people don't have IQ when it comes to playing defense

Man that pisses me off the most😂 I don’t play with a squad so I make sure my build can do everything at pg. I run the entire offense, get everyone easy buckets, score, guard the best player, help the center box out, use play take so everyone gets their takeover. All I ask is you watch the guy standing in the corner and you still getting cooked?!?!?? HOW SWAY

As a former PG , I got so mad at the lack of defense that I made a 6’6 PF lock. I’m so tired of watching people get cooked. I’m guarding the 1-5 for the rest of the year.

Whole 2k system just doesn’t make sense, the green window has so much difference between wide open and open. It’s literally impossible to hit contest shot like a nba player, and the 2k try to favorite the offense so they make defense trash(for stealing at least). I have test steal in offline mode before, I put up SGA against some random 60 overall 70s player. I didn’t do anything with the 70s player, and I put SGA to the side of the ball. No dribble no L2 protecting and with 91 steal. I can’t steal anything. SGA was literally right there touching the ball and the ball don’t get steal or anything.

2k made defense so bad this year. The contests are just totally nonexistent regardless of your challenger. I play a lot more on the 1s court in theater than other modes. I know that I should not be keeping my right stick up all the time, I should try to beat the ball handler to the spot they are trying to get to, I should be 6’7 as a SF with gold clamps and HoF immovable enforcer, I should force them to show me that they can hit from all 3 levels, I should try defending them from the side if they love the Murray behind the back, and I should use the right stick my 91 steal as soon as the opponent stops dynamically dribbling… But there is just no way to be a defender even keeping all of those tips in mind, especially since now they made 3s so that a bunny or squirrel can make them, even occasionally above 50% contested and good luck getting any contest on someone with blinders, deadeye, and Tmac base

Ngl, I’ll play devil’s advocate. I like defense this year much better than year’s past. Playing a big to me is easier than easy (defensively), just put your hands up when you’re in front, and fight for position when you’re not. Perimeter guarding is tougher fs, especially w the bs some ppl can do, but at the very least, once you’ve drained all your stamina doing your ridiculous dribbles, your shot isn’t still lightning quick. I’m a bigger fan of the offense too. Fading middies are meta, fading 3’s are more challenging, layups actually have value in this game, which they haven’t had in a decade imo. There’s inherent problems ofc (no steal means full court passes go right through you, loose balls are a mess, when ppl go out of bounds is also a mess), but imo, most of the community is just bad at the game lmao. This is why most of them need the same animations.

My guard build is defense oriented like Marcus Smart. Cause Im not a great shooter and want to buy into the role without being useless. If they expect me to shoot, Im going to have to get closer. My small forward shoots just fine Since you mentioned it in your vids I have noticed its easy to key into the game plan of my opps of screen, screen, ISO ISO! And it does make it somewhat easy to gameplan with most. Latch on

I have a 3pt shot hunter but I don’t play like that for that reason. Plus I have silver clamps and glove on mines. Also. Those floor spacing slashers are hard to guard. But I choose to force them to dunks. Because they pretty much never have perimeter. So they never can get a good contest on 3s. 3s are more then 2s

Not me with a 4 that actually impacts the game out rebounds centers gets blocks and gets buckets without just sitting in the corner 😳

Yo gotta say and I know I'm late just watched 2 of your videos back to back but I also watched your stage videos good stuff BTW as a person who considers himself a decent role player I've been humbled alot by actual "HIM" people l. I tell you what last year I lost to a mothafuzza with a full 5 and he has nothing but a.i multiple times with the homies and with the random as someone who has rocked with the community since agent and swante was a kid and badge used to be an actual badge plug I swear knowing about his channel in 12 was a life saver but this is all stuff to let you know that you aren't wrong about alot of the things you say and trust I've been playing 2k for a long time just don't have the platform nor the community yet I love how people like kobra oldheadrec I think his name his not exactly sure BTW I know I'm name dropping alot but if you really are apart of this community the way I explain how I know the usernames should tell you how long ago I've been watching videos on 2k. Playing 2k. Keep doing what you doing and honestly if you don't blow up that's how you know this stuff is rigged.

It’s really just that simple. Ppl been complaining ab defense the last few 2ks, but I been locking up since 2k20. Running Pg and guarding Pg. Can u recognize tendencies, it’s that simple.

The disrespect on the 4 is getting out of hand lol especially when they match us up against 2s 3s 4s and 5s cut it out lol my KG build is a Demon and I would love to run with you or against you someday I love competition. Another great video by the way keep grinding my G

Im a lock I sit mid-range area on those floor spacing slashers a lot of them can't shoot the three.... The first request I ask is to switch on the PG and usually they decline and my man has 0-7pts while the PG gives up 20+ or the C gives up 20+.... Really this community don't care about defense because 2K doesn't care about defense

Random rec there’s no communication. Everybody has their own game plan and it’s never to simply just win the game. It’s 1-2 guys wanting to score all the points dominate the ball and blame everyone else when adjustments don’t get made

good video but i disagree with floor spacing slashers/3pt hunters bring the hardest to guard. When my team sees that the primary ball handler doesn’t have 87+ pass accuracy, its a GG. And 90% of these point guards settle with 77 or less passing, i see it all the time. We immediately go into a 1-3-1 zone, the primary lock and the center double the ball handler. The ball handler has low passing, so he can’t make a clean pass. One of 2 things will happen. 1. he will throw it out of bounds 2. he will throw a slow/sloppy pass We have our pg, sg, and 2nd lock playing the pass lanes. guards on corner shooters, 2nd lock by the free throw line preparing to steal the ball. He can rotate to either hash or the cutter because the PG cannot make an accurate/fast pass since he’s being doubled. The reason we have the lock and center doubling is because the lock has the highest perimeter defense & steal, and the big is 7ft tall with long arms, so not only can’t the pg make a good pass… sometiemes the centers arms will just deflect the pass out of bounds, or into one of our teammates hands. We abuse low pass accuracy PG’s. They need to stop listening to all these content creators fooling them into making Pg builds with 77 or lower pass lol

Inside arc maestro at 7’0 is elite can defend and put the ball on the floor like a young boogie or prime jokic that can dunk post score shoot

Yeah I literally made a no defense offensive build with currently 43 defense and can guard 95 % of rec players cause everyone plays so predictable. Only problem is constantly yelling at my teammates not to help off shooters cause people really don’t take 2s

To be fair, there's a massive difference depending on who u play and what game mode. Cuz trust if u tryns play zone defense or man against 2k league pros you're cooked. But that shit works in rec and pro-am it's different for every game mode. I hear u tho. Defense is ass on 2k.

I’m glad you brought up the center position. I got a center and I’m pretty great with him. My friend has a SG and he sucks and keep saying I only kill cuz center is easy to play. I’m like hell no it’s the hardest position to play

I go into the game with the mentality of my opponent isn’t scoring period, he either gonna pass that rock or quit out because I’m on him like 🪰2💩

The biggest problem is the reaction to dunks and stuff bruh. You be chasing somebody going up for a dunk and they will swat at the air 😂 steals make you stop in place once you reach that’s not a good defensive mechanic.

Honestly a lot of these guys just don’t know how to play defense.

Crabbing is completely nonsense there is no way a player being behind negates the contest.. ill will put money up.. you try to shoot with somebody literally breathing down your neck (sometimes more than one person,) and show me how many shots you can make.. i bet it wont be many

Every position matters I highly disagree

Defense this year is the most rewarding when you counter the new meta features introduced into the game, like the standing dunk meter for example... I have a 6'9 PF with 96 interior D and 95 strength and thrive to match up against any inside center that would so dare try and attempt to back me down and dropstep into my HOF post lock... he'll either pass out or brick the dunk meter which is hilarious to see cause I'm sure you know already all these centers have that one move in their bag and if you counter it they essentially become useless on offense
