You know, the ideology of these films has always perplexed me. Attempting to delegitimize atheism by claiming atheists are only atheistic because of trauma, not only is this demonstrably false, it has an unintended side effect of delegitimizing any belief system. I can claim the only reason the people at Pure Flix are Christian is because of some trauma they suffered in their lives, that all of them used to be hateful blasphemous atheists, and the only reason they now follow the word of God is because they had a near death experience. Why not? That's essentially the same logic they're using for everyone else. When you remove the prospects of independent thought, personal experience and ones journey through life shaping whether or not they're a theist or an atheist, you grossly oversimplify and misrepresent a persons relationship with their own existentialism. Hey, that guys an atheist, shove him into traffic it'll make him a Christian! That ladies a Christian, give her mom cancer it'll make her a atheist! Frankly its a disgustingly cynical attitude and speaks volumes about the lack of faith and the lack of respect the people behind Pure Flix have for the rest of humanity. Oh, and Sean Hannity can fuck off the edge of a cliff.

Sorbo was an atheist in "God's Not Dead" because his mother died. Apparently the only reason people become atheists, in the view of Christians.

So Sorbo is literally playing his same character from God's not Dead, even has the same backstory and reason for being atheists.

after seeing the Midnight Screenings' for this, I knew a Snob episode was coming for it. Glad we got this one, because this is a great one!

So this is the story of a man who grew up in a Christian environment, to become your run-of-the-mill in-name-only Christian, who then became a skeptic for all the wrong reasons, and who then gets into an accident and has a hallucination, and because of that hallucination, and a years-long depression due to the death of his son, he once again becomes a practicing Christian because that gives him comfort and soothes his grief and depression.

I'm already an atheist, so if I ever lose someone I love, I'm going to believe in god and believe that he's evil. That works, right Sorbo?

Thank you for pointing out how annoyingly these films portray atheists. Not everyone has some traumatic experience that makes them hate the god they supposedly don't believe in. Some people just...don't believe. It's not some big constant they need to whine about.

The bit where he talks about Japanese and North Korean people being excited for/participating in this "let's shine our phones at the sky" thing really gets to me every time I watch this video. The number of Christians in both countries is so small, shining a bloody light at the sky would not show up on anything or be important enough to talk about on the news. Especially in North Korea where doing that could have pretty terrible repercussions (not sure how much they care about religion but showing solidarity to Americans would not be taken well. I'm also willing to bet that most of that very small number of North Korean Christians don't love the Americans either.)
