wait a minute. This movie has actual antagonists who are shown to be complex and has legitimate reasons on why they are atheists and in a way sympathetic with actual conservations with both sides have a valid points on religions. Is this even a pureflix movie?
@millenniumf1138
@millenniumf1138 5 лет назад
Like most Pureflix movies, this one had a script that wasn't read by the producers and was just assumed to be another strawman persecution movie, so it's not surprising that a legitimately good movie was able to slip under the radar.

I feel weird defending a GND movie, and I’d say this is _far_ from a great film, but my personal philosophy is that the best way to gage if a Christian film is doing right by its community is how well it’s accepted *by* the community. If they get salty about it, it’s probably because the film is holding a mirror up to them and asking “What do you see?”

I know.... The themes of being lost, genuine contrition, showing mercy, forgiveness towards an aggressor, and redemption are the heart of the Christian faith. As a Catholic, I think the movie is both realistic and uplifting in its message of bringing hope and compassion to a complex and hurting world.

“Out of all three movies, this is the only one that bombed.” Because people don’t want to have a discussion. They just want the sense of validation that comes with having their pre-existing opinions confirmed. People went to the first two GND movies because they wanted to have their beliefs and prejudices parroted back to them. But when this one dared to actually CHALLENGE the Christian faith just a little bit, people got offended. To the PureFlix audience, a “Christian message” means saying that only conservative Christians are good people, and everyone else is just wrong.
@TheKeyser94

The funny thing is if they have looked harder they would have their pre-validated beliefs confirmed, the message of this movie can be resumed as: "Bow your head and know your place, you never accuse or question the church ever."

What do you mean? There are only TWO Godfather movies *twitch* and GND has THREE movies. I mean, the two Godfather movies are just about perfect, and the second one *twitch* ended on a perfect note with Michael having lost everything for the sake of trying to keep everyone safe. He didn't want to kill everyone, just his enemies, as he said, and in doing so, he lost everything. The perfect shot of him staring out the window, what was left of his humanity essentially gone because of the murder of his brother is almost haunting. It's such a perfect ending. I'm a devout Christian, but these movies aren't necessary. I don't need a film company to justify my faith and I don't need propaganda to feel safe. I will give GND3 credit in that it at least had a likeable atheist that wasn't some mustache twirling bad guy. This guy just wanted to connect with his brother despite they're different beliefs. That actually happens. No persecution complex, no atheists hit by cars or trying to take Christianity from Sabrina the Teenage Christian. Just 2 brothers with different beliefs reconnecting. Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing more of them together. It would benefit Christians and atheists both to see each others sides of things and still come to loving and respecting each other. Movies like GND don't want that. They want us to fight and bicker. I have no desire to convert others and most atheists want us to be allowed to worship in peace. We all want the freedom to be who we are. I don't need Josh Whedon and the Pure Flix cinematic universe to be a good Christian. Anyone who paints all beliefs may they be Muslims or atheists as evil just want to build walls to divide and cause fear and honestly, I'm not interested. I'm not interested in hating or fearing those that believe differently. I love my Muslim, Pagan and atheist friends and they love me and that's good enough.

And the world is better for having you in it. I find a person's spiritual and religious convictions to be a beautiful thing that should be protected and respected (I mean, as long as they aren't hurtful or discriminatory), and these films feel like overcompensation. What these films are forgetting is the nature of faith--it's a personal thing that can't be replicated or transferred to another person. You can't make someone feel faith, you can only give them the manual (your texts or sermons) and say "here's where mine came from" and leave it at that, or else lead by example (i.e. Mr. Rogers, Jesus Christ, Buddha, Dalai Lama..yes I'm putting Mr. Rogers in there. It has it’s silly moments but it’s far and away better than what they were cranking out before. As a Christian I feel like it’s an insult to my intelligence to paint a person with a different belief system than me in to a villain. The way that this film handled the college kid and the brother was the best part. The lawyer was very likable and I admit I shed some tears when the pastor forgave the kid and gave him the Bible. @capmar-vell92returns20
@capmar-vell92returns20 2 года назад
Not really. I'm not a big fan of how 616 Thor and his supporting characters have been handled in the MCU, specifically as depicted in Ragnarok and beyond. Taika Waititi quite famously never read a Thor comic, and it shows in that the film is a very pale imitation of Walt Simonson's fantastic run with a Planet Hulk knockoff shoehorned in because they couldn't do a solo Hulk movie. Marvel's Asgard has so many great characters that will never truly get a chance to shine in the MCU. Sif and the Warriors Three were completely wasted. Balder, Karnilla, the Enchantress, Tyr, and many others don't even exist and won't because Asgard is destroyed and they're adapting Aaron's controversial run for Love and Thunder. Even Skurge's sacrifice, the single most badass moment in Simonson's run, was cheapened by stripping away its original context and the fantastic prose that surrounded it. I would have loved to see Thor's knock-down, drag-out battle with the Midgard Serpent on the big screen, the true climax of Simonson's Ragnarok, but it's not to be. Thor should have been the MCU's Lord of the Rings, but instead it's yet another generic milquetoast sci-fi. Edit: Also, as someone who frequents the Marvel database wiki, it's fucking hilarious to see the Time-Keepers and that one Mark Gruenwald homage, Mobius, as some of the most popular articles when not even comic fans gave a shit about them beforehand. They were almost completely inconsequential except for their involvement in Avengers Forever, which will never be referenced again because Kurt Busiek's Avengers run seems to also be forgotten now.

I am both a devout Christian and worked at a Christian bookstore for many years I can say that I have seen more Christian movies than most (though not more than Brad, it seems! He's much more devoted to punishing himself with terrible movies than I am). I can confirm that basically 99.9% of all Christian movies are absolutely dreadful. Really, F-, 0/10, 'Birdemic 2' dreadful. I would always cringe with embarrassment whenever the next big movie came out that we were promoting (like God's Not Dead, for example), and we had to play the trailers, put up posters in store etc. I also felt sad for all the people buying them and saying how wonderful they were. The problem I had with them (on top of the usual terrible acting, awful script, bad direction, non-existent budget etc) is they're just so fake. The non-Christian bad guy character (coz you know, that's totally how Christians are supposed to view non-Christians) is always a caricature who either converts at the end or suffers some shame or humiliation as the Christian character emerges victorious. The main character's problems always magically resolve through prayer (their marriage gets better, their rebellious children return, their cancer goes away, or whatever). Life just doesn't work like that (and you'll never reach people with the message of Christianity if you're constantly misrepresenting them in film! Incidentally, the best/only good religious-themed movie I've seen is 'Amazing Grace', about the story of William Wilberforce, the member of parliament who campaigned for decades to outlaw slavery in the British Empire. But then, the movie itself was not intended to be religious, it's just that Wilberforce himself was devoutly religious so it inevitably comes through in the movie, so it's not quite the same category as something like God's Not Dead.
