Decide on your synopsis, where & when your scenario is set, and a theme or monster you want to use.
So far my scenario is going to be called Grave Robbers, and set about a bank heist, and zombies. Lets see what we can come up with and fill in the details. Any questions just ask.

My scenario is set in the late 1920’s. The party are a group of friends fresh out of the arts academy and have landed themselves on a huge gig working on the first ever colour moving picture. Production has halted as the lead actor has been exhibiting some bizarre behaviour and has been sent to his green room for a moment while he regathers himself. The director is eccentric and egotistical, and there’s gossip on set that he’s a part of the occult. The director decides to move some of the set pieces and shoot additional scenes without the lead to save time. However, the cast and crew begin to also act bizarrely as the shoot continues. It soon becomes eerily clear that the people affected are declining rapidly, and the set could erupt into a violent riot. The party is tasked with finding out what is causing this behaviour and destroying it before it is too late. The idea, is that the camera/s are the manifestation of the horror. Exposure to them leads to psychopathic traits (superficial charm, and apathy), as well as an irrational fear of being forgotten and a need to be the centre of attention. The affected become severely addicted to pharmaceuticals, and begin to fight over the drugs on set. People will begin killing each other over irrationalities, and the ‘investigators’ needs to stop the chaos before everyone is wasted.

Sounds compelling, you'd need to make sure that the clues that lead to the cameras aren't too obvious or it could be a short one, but all in all, a very clear idea. I like it.

@@RPGNook thank you! I’ve got some good red herrings, The ‘occult affiliated’ director and his inner circle, Al Capone will have a presence as he is dating the starlet of the production, and his gang will be of suspicion. There’s also the “observers” The observers are on set watching people and taking notes on a clip board. The observers are strange and all have the same likeness, absence of body hair and geometric faces with strong features. They wear all black contrasting their pale complexion. They are silent and prefer not to speak when engaged, communicating only with markers on pieces of board. They are afraid of the production, and are against the film. They are represent the age of black and white silent films and are here mostly as a red herring. Hopefully should be enough to throw the investigators of the scent. Excited to see how it plays out. Your video helped incredibly to help me form my idea into a playable scenario, so thank you.

Red Herrings are tricky sometimes as they could lead the players to go on massive tagents, be careful they lead at least back into the scenario at points so they wont feel jarring. But i like the ideas, especially the observers.

I'll take a crack at it. Modern Day 2020 Being a member of a cult is never easy, especially when the majority of the Hastur worship Church of Yellow Sun died in a tragic car accident three days ago before they were able to conduct a ritual to summon their master. Remaining cultists, who, for reasons ranging from incompetence to senility, were previously excluded from the ceremony, had been tasked by a dying cult leader Zahary Graham to perform the summoning ritual. Cultists trust that Hastur will descend on Earth, enslaving humanity while allowing the faithful to become vassals close to the throne of Carcosa. That's a lie which cultists wholeheartedly believe as Hastur won't spare them. During the night, Saturn, Mars, and Uranus will align, opening the path to Carcosa. Before it, the cultists should prepare for the ritual, including stealing a highly prized obsidian Aztec ritual knife from a museum and kidnapping three sacrifices each born under each of the planets mentioned above. In this, they will need to be wary of police involvement lead by gung-ho deputy Jenkins and involvement from Professor of Occult Yorksen from the Miskatonic University. Professor Yorksen, a seasoned investigator, had rigged the cult bus three days ago, leading to the fatal car crash in a hope to prevent the ritual from conducting. Seeing that the cult persists, he will continue attempting to foil cultists' plans. As the primary suspect in the car accident, he will try to stay hidden from the cultists as long as possible, sending his often unwilling student-assistants to disrupt the preparations. As the planets align, the ritual shall commence. The head cultist shall recite their prayer for Hastur, citing the passages from the King in Yellow while cutting the throats of sacrifices in a set order. The rest of the cultists will assist the ritual and protect the compound. At the same time, Professor Yorksen and his assistants will get into a mad dash to stop the ceremony from commencing using all available means possible, including subterfuge, calling the police, and ultimately outright assault.

Nice, thanks. The antagonists are mundanes, so you'll need to make sure their presence and actions are interesting on how they disrupt the players, turning up with a gun might be a bit bland. Have a think of how to make those encounters interesting.
@andreyk.1976

@@RPGNook At first, I was thinking that in the end, if the ritual nears completion, professor Yorkson would summon Hunting Horror that he can't control, but then I realized that it breaks the theme of role reversal as investigators rarely have access to any useful spells if any. So, students, as they have everything to lose if they got caught doing anything overt criminal like attacking cultists, will use modern technologies and social engineering to disrupt cultists starting with following cultists with cameras to make sure that cannot do anything illegal, calling flashmobs to make things crowded, hacking into social networks, warning sacrifices and things of a similar nature. Keeping with the theme, cultists would have access to some spells, not necessarily most potent as they are dregs of the cult, as well as the ability to summon otherwordly helper as Dimensional Shambler which will have an extremely high chance of backfiring.
@RPGNook
@RPGNook 4 года назад
another thing you'll need to think about, is you should have at least 1 threat that is resistant to shotguns and explosives, and the climax has a non violent solution too. i'll get into this next week.
@andreyk.1976
@andreyk.1976 4 года назад
@@RPGNook Well, opponents are mundanes by design, but it is possible that instead of Dimensional Shambler, cultists may opt to summon something more dangerous, which magnifies the chance of backfire. Hastur, who may or may not be summoned at the end, presents a grave and insurmountable threat to all surrounding humans. For a "non-violent" resolution, cultists may use the police for their advantage. Professor Yorksen is the primary suspect in a bus crash. While there was no evidence of his involvement, before the crash, he openly stated his opinion about the cult to the police. Cultists may obtain additional proof of Yorksen involvement and make police arrest him. Alternatively, they may request, citing the harassment by students, police protection around the compound during their "harmless" religious ceremony. With investigators out of the way, the ritual, while still dangerous, may be performed in relative peace. Albeit I am not sure how non-violent you consider slitting throats of bounded people.
