This video speaks to my soul! My grandparents were green thumbs and I my mother is still. Their yards were gorgeous and there is nothing I aspire to more than to be that little old lady that walks around her yard telling whoever who will listen to the stories about her plants and flowers. ❤

It’s crazy to me that someday when your son is grown, he’ll look back lovingly and say, “my parents had such a green thumb and a love of nature”. I feel that way about my dad, and someday that’ll be you!

Walking with you thru this beauty and also walking with my deceased paternal grandmother. She had beautiful peonies, lily of the valley, roses and rhododendron. Then the vegetable and fruit gardens. I used to cut a stalk of rhubarb, grab the salt shaker, sit on her porch swing and eat that delicious, sour rhubarb!! Those were the days! 😢

Please do weekly or biweekly tours so that we can see the growth and blooms of everything, I’m in Tennessee and have many plants but mostly Iris mad other perennials because annuals have to be replanted every year. I have gotten into a "rut" with the flowers I plant....so your videos have made me want to expand my flower garden! Especially with wild flowers. We have let our one acre yard go natural, and hopefully we will be adding more clover seeds to it. We have so many happy bees, which makes us happier than having a fully manicured lawn!! Right now our hydrangeas are blooming like crazy, so I have vases of them all over the house. It is amazing to be part of your journey with your homestead!! (LOVE long videos!!)🌻🥀

We need a weekly update for veggie and flowers for summer til end of season. It’s epic! I love that you are sharing this gorgeous property and have developed it so beautifully and abundantly. The school site is a perfect idea also with the pavilion. Love it. It’s such a healthy thing to garden and try new flowers and veggies each year. I have never grown fruit trees so find it interesting to see what you are growing and how you prune and all. I know here people start covering their fruiting tree’s fruit at some point to protect from insects. Not sure if the big bear isn’t going to put in a lawn chair and wait for things to ripen though. The blueberry farm I used to pick from in Duvall used to go out and check for bears and ring a big cow bell to help scare them away. I don’t know if it worked but you might want to make it a habit in fruit season. I love violas also and they grow really well from seeds. You will have a ton easily. I grew the good old Johnny jump ups and they grew easily. Another one that’s got pretty folliage is Nigella aka love in a mist I think it’s called. It has really pretty folliage and I just read the seeds are called black cumin and also are used for a number of medicinal uses so you may want to add it to your medicinal garden bed. Another cool one visually is cupcake cosmos. They grow a cup on the outer rim and a flower inside the cup and some will grow just the cup. I got mine from Ed Humes at good old fred meyers. They bloom in hot weather later like maybe august and are maybe two to three feet tall. They look like fairy cupcake wrappers. I was happy to see you are growing dill and suggest lemon thyme if you can locate some starts now. They are really great in meals. Do you have any cherry tomatoes for your little dude to enjoy? I’m sure you do but can’t remember. Loving the many spread around strawberries and the high variety of flowers. The peonies are gorgeous. Wait til you see the dahlias if you are growing then. If not def get some dinner plate dahlias and be prepared to be amused. Another summer liner flower for the driveway would be a line of the mammoth sunflowers. One farm i visited had a whole big wall of them , a dahlia garden with a variety of them plus veggies and fruits. Another one for herb garden if you don’t have them is chives and spring onions. Can’t remember if you had them. The roses also I’ve never grown and I bet they are amazing and will be prolific on your property. Have you considered or do you have some flower boxes for the exteriors of your home like the mountain chalets have? Ohhh one more that’s good for shade is some bleeding hearts. They come up annually, do their thing and then die back and come back in the spring. They are cute and come in I think white, pink and maybe red. I always grow fuschias and missed the window of growing them this year so bummed bc I have a ton of hummers here. I grabbed some petunias bc they like them also. I guess with the bears you can’t keep seed filled bird feeders out but I figured that’s how the squirrels planted your sunflowers all over. They do that here also. I always let the squirrel planted sunflowers grow if they are in a good spot. I love those purple spilling over rocks flowers and really love the wood garden with Irish moss and various flowers. I super love the nw flower and garden show. The classes they do are super cool also. I took one given by the Xerces people who spoke about pollinator support and some really interesting topics. Check them out here: xerces.org Another east easy one to grow is nasturtium and they self seed or you can collect seeds and make “poor man’s capers” by pickling their seeds. I’ve never tried it and know you aren’t poor lol but something to experiment with. It’s fun to collect audible flower petals to add to your salad in summer. It elevates the visual presentation and fun to see what mixes you can come up with. I’m super excited to know someone who shares my love of gardening here and who has a nice big lush property to garden and try out all the flowers and herbs and veggies. Oh and for dill there are two main kinds I grow. One is the big one that grows tall and used more for the heads for pickling. I think called mammoth or something and then the fernleaf dill is good for chop it into salads and such. It grows more of the fine leaves and much smaller of a plant. And loving that you installed the greens for the chickens and they have flowers around their coop. Very charming. Make sure to keep them super safe. Not sure if it was you guys or someone else but the predators out there are very real and strong and sneaky. Your son is going to inherit a gorgeous property one day. You could rent your space out for weddings even if you installed some public toilets and bought or had rented chairs and tables. I visited the woodinville lavender farm back in the day and they also did weddings, classes, and had a little store with books and cookbooks, many lavender things like lavender spice mix and sachets and bulk lav. They even had a whole open but covered drying rack space to dry it. In the class we made a bruschetta with garlic and lavender spice mix mixed in with the fresh tomatoes. It was so easy and yummy. I will see if I can find the recipe or the book the blend is in. Here ya go for the book. The blend is in here: Discover Cooking with Lavender a.co/d/ejs2R6Z And last one I don’t know if you have seen in person but is a great vining woody plant over time is passion flower. The flowers look insane. Lastly you need a lemon tree to keep outside in summer and in the green house in winter. Also a kumquat or calamondin tree. I have an epic cake recipe for those and supposedly you can eat the little mini oranges skin on. Sooo much fun. And any sign of mushrooms from the wood plug mushrooms? I grew some oyster mushrooms in my house. You can get some hanging bags and grow them in hung up bags with slits in them. There’s a cool mushroom place in I think Snoqualmie. Let me find a link. www.snovalleymushrooms.com/shop Find the locals to buy the spores from if possible. People in my neighborhood are big rose enthusiasts. I’ve never done them but they photo some amazing displays. Oh another popular bed filler here is crocosmania orange lily flowers. And did you plant echinacea for the medicinal garden? Check out mullein’s medicinal properties for lung issues and tincture making. I wanted to grow Arnica and make my own pain medicine but don’t have room anymore. Sooo I’m living vicariously thru you guys. I love allll the wood buildings and the style of your hobbit home. It’s coming together so nicely. Did the Irish moss not do as well in your front walkway? Is there one that did and takes a beating from feet? This was so fun. Yours and Zach’s. I don’t have a car but wish you would someday do a property tour in person! Take care of yourselves and enjoy the fruits of your labors. Xo from Amy in Issaquah.

I landscape on vancouver island (so same zone and similar weather) and virtually all the camillias are kicking the bucket because of the colder winters and hotter summers. It's super rare to see a nice healthy camillia nowadays so don't take it too personally! Could try a more sheltered place or try wrapping in burlap (like a cedar) over the winter, might help. Looks so lovely I adore the bed around the chicken coop!!
