Letshouer S12 final mod (TOTL level) 

This was the only planer iem I wanted because it looks like a normal fit. I'm happy with the olina but Im glad you put videos on how to tune I think it incredibly valuable in this hobby.

Youre an awesome man, I bought the s12 out of curiosity during an aliexpress sale. Once I got them I was very disappointed because of how sharp some words were when the vocalist would sing. I was about to sell these until I saw this.. im going to try this out now considering how well the extra filter on the olina did after learning that from you.

Excellent video! Can you shed more light on the damper you used please? Where do i get one from and how do i peel out the existing one? Also the bore insert please.

Just did this mod today. I had high hopes for the mod, but actually hearing it totally blew away my expectations. It definitely needs all 3 steps - the damper and bore tube helped the tuning, but poking the front vent made it dark magic. (I did that with a small straight pin.) I didn't think the mod could be that much better than the oratory1990 EQ settings I used, but it's levels above, and I don't even need to EQ the S12 anymore. Thanks, this really breathed new life into my S12. I can only hope to hear Eru one day.

Hi MB... Thanks to you i have a killer iem now :) But i think poking the vent was a bad idea, i closed it again with 3m micropore band and this is better for 'bass slam' i think. Also i'm using Spinfit CP100 and NiceHck Silversir 6N silver cable that's just awesome! Thank you so much.

Just checked with my favorite EQ setting for the S12, +2dB at 250Hz, -2dB at 2Khz, which I created to make the S12 sound fuller, especially male vocal and to reduce forwardness of the treble. And that EQ setting conforms to the graph of your modded S12.

The graph without dampener reminds me the Focus EDM graph ;) I might try that

Any other tips how to open the shell? Seems like they improved their glue. Seems near impossible to break open. My X-acto knife blade keeps breaking, the shell stays tight.

Just finished the mod. I heard it briefly at Canjam thanks to a kind fellow Short Bus fan but damn... I don't even know what to say. Huge improvement. I don't understand how you can remove the grill but still cut down on sibilance and treble harshness; I guess the back filter really helps a lot. Yet another Short Bus win. Someone needs to scoop you up for a real sound engineer position. (Exotica by Martin Denny is an experience on the Prometheus)

Where/How can I get the bore inserts ? ( I'm relatively new to the hobby ) , also do the dampers and/or the bore narrowing improve the bass ? since poking the front vents takes off the bass . Thanks a lot for the idea and the video .

Very interesting tuning mod. Out of curiosity do you have any measurements of just the external vent/port being opened up without the internal driver filter? I was actually quite surprised, shocked actually, to hear how airy and open the sound is just by removing that vent filter thing(or poking a hole in it rather). Fortunately, however, it appears to be easily reversible by just covering the vent port with a small piece of tape or sticker. But Im wondering if I can get a reading as to what portion of the low end it affects to see if I can eq it back but still retain the airyness, if at all possible of course. Thanks for something fun to try out by the way!

Namaste Michael! About your mod: Pinna gain is pretty well done, almonst perfect! So I do like it too, that's the sweet spot! Congrats :) I picked up the z version after catching your mod vlog. Just wonder (before I start to tune the z12), if the fall off around 8k of the modded version is to accept and comes with the rear damper mod, or if it has other reasons?

Thanks for doing all this detective work! For the S12 pro, do you recommend just putting in the two different dampers and the tubing in the bore (Glamdring mod) or changing the back damper and piercing the pinhole as well?

Can I use 4mm 300 mesh instead of 3mm 300 instead? Any other mesh sizes you can suggest?

The diameter of the insert should match the nozzle diameter? Any idea what can be used for the inserts other than Etymotic tips?

If i just want to reduce treble a little, about 1db or 2. Will it work fine if i get high density foam on aliexpress? I like the overall tuning i just wish the treble was a little lower.

Bought a second hand one today out of faith in this - shelled out the extra $10 for Ety foams in case the Etymotic cores are the only ones with that particular diameter. It'll be frustrating waiting for the filters to come from China, but at least it's meant to be a pretty good IEM in stock form while I wait!

Hello Michael! Thanks for the amazing video. I'm about to try the mod myself. I have a slight condensantion issue with my pair, though. Small droplets of water appear on the nozzle grill after a couple of hours using the IEM. How do you think taking the grill away would affect that? Should I still do it? Thanks again!

Seems like you rock them with an open nozzle without the metal grill. Do I need to put back metal mesh grill on the nozzle or it's going to affect the sound?

Which graph is stock and which is modded? The yellow line looks like every other S12 measurement is the green one the modded measurement? (Judging by its bass curve)

I have to say thank you for sharing how to mod S12. I'm comparing this modded S12 (I would call it SB12 ) with EJ07M Kinda Lava, I actually like the bass of SB12 than KL... :) I'm sure KL is better than other areas, but it's $500 more expensive. 💯💯👍

how does this tuning compare to a stock first batch mp145 ?

you say s12 with this mod is perfect for your taste but i remember you said the same thing a few weeks ago with olina and your totl mod so how does these 2 compares in your mind, do they co exist as being sidegrades or is this new s12 totl mod now closer to your individual taste ?

That's a great demonstration might have to do this mod aswell, because I find it hard to get a good equalizer for android that has 30 bands, I know poweramp exists but it never seemed to work with my devices, seems it requires root. There are a few good 10 band EQs but they are definitely not sufficient or accurate enough

And I had just returned mine. The timing. I liked the s12 a lot. Got those and the olina and as much as I liked the olina, I feel the s12 were just technically better and the lean towards the treble didn't bother me. I was mainly looking for something close to my eq'd beryer 880 600ohm. I ended up staying with my Nanna 2 pro. On the Nanna, foam tips give it a warmer looser tube like sound, and with silicone I get the detail. I also eq that sometimes to add 2-3db to 100hz with a low shelf filter and 4-5 at 20hz when I'm feeling bass head. If I end up selling those for a decent price might try the s12 again

Be cautious guys, there is some variation in production, my unit has its sockets on one level with the body so I am not able to do that trick with the screwdriver to open it and I poked the vents first and thinking now how to open it without damaging it to much visually got nebula gray version which is coated, so first make sure that you can open it first only then poke the vents, otherwise it might be a problem, sure we need to take in the account that it is a DIY project and anything can happen to the IEM, so don't expect that everything will go smoothly and it will look like new. Did insert those rubber filters in the oppenings and poked vents, everything seems working, got a smoother sound now the main challenge to open those shells without doing to much of damage.

The late treble peak looks like it will lbe emphasized more though. Seeing as the planar driver is just a standalone enclosed driver, the casing cha,ber does nothing...,.so I guess there is no solution for that peak.

My experience looking for best sound I prefer with s 12 .. that is deep bass with mids and open trouble with no fatigue… and it seems i achieved that … now my s 12 is sound very different then it was at the beginning.. the method that this video used.. i used even for HBB mele.. and blow my mind and i made mistake that i poked the driver, then i lost that sound …. Now i achieved that with s12 with much much better technicalities.. i am so happy now .. every time I listen song with this amazed me how many instruments being used in the songs … that’s right … here the thing use copper cable doesn’t have to spend much use xinhs cable 8 core pure copper cable from ali express cost you 12$ ( copper cable gives you bass pronounce) then use tips soft one gray color, cut it to best fit, (don’t have to spend on other tips that will cost you 25$ noooo)… so use tips that comes with s 12, fit in to nozzle hole( what it does ? It cuts the shouty trouble and upper mids still there is upper mids and trouble enough to give energy to vocal and shines new ones (by the way i used many tips and only this tips give me best sound like bass pronounce with airy trouble) ..also best image that iem have has small nozzle like sennheiner , etymotic and expensive iem use tubes ) and then make vent hole little 1/3 size big ( it gives driver breath properly so doesn’t feels driver is not breathing properly to give you full sound. (Actually you can feel it .. driver having issue with breathing.) this will improve even the image of songs and you will notice so many instruments being heard … i am sharing coz It doesn’t make sense you have to spend to hear better … find your preferred tune and enjoy your music like i am doing now with s12… when I bought this didn’t like the sound at all actually found that HBB mele had better sound then this because I achieved on mele only it had big stage , then as i said I ruined that with poking driver.. while thinking can i make it better… hope my experience will help you to have better music experience….

Hi Michael long time......Seems bit complicated may be doable once i start....i dont have 3.0 400 filter doea olina stock filter or tanya filter is ok.

This seems likely you'll damage your driver trying to do this try it tat you own risk😅

If you really don't like it so much that you basically have to redesign it, why not just buy something else in the first place. :-)
