Small point Levellers are an English band and sing a lot of songs about very English topics, Love the band and have followed them since the second album, always a great live show
I had forgotten all about this band. I saw them at the Rock and Blues bike show in the late 90' and everyone was moaning cos they weren't the usual type of band but when they came on there were hundreds of bikers going nuts and jigging about to them and having a great time - me included. It was a gorgeous sunny day and they were playing outside and they created a great party atmosphere.. So good they were invited back several times.
The Levellers are a great live band. Both lead guitarist share lead vocals and have very different styles and voices. It’s been reported when they headlined Glastonbury back in early 90’s they play to Glastonbury’s largest ever single crowd, before security and large fences were introduced.
I love ‘The Levellers’….& they do have a ‘The’ in front of their name ;-)…. This song was taken from ‘Levelling the land’ & imho, there are better songs on that album alone (not to say ‘The riverflow’ wasn’t a good track though & for the reason(s) u stated David…. including being a good track to dance to) like ‘One way’ & ‘fifteen years’ for example…. Let's hope so. Strangely, I have just been listening to Christian Woman on my Spotify goth playlist on the way home! Pete had such a distinguished voice. Perfect for goth music. Awesome.
Every Irish bar I ever walked into had either the Dubliners or The Pogues playing live. Everyone's drinking Guinness and the place is badly lit too, just to build a picture for non Irish viewers.
