Good video, thanks. As the comms guy I have radios, drones, some batteries, antennas, etc. I'm usually rocking a Camelback 2-day pack w the padded waist strap because as you note, that stuff all needs some pouches and you don't want it to get crushed!

Solid info all around. I appreciate solid, and straight to the point information. I have owned a few rigs personally (haley strategic, spiritus etc). But recently I turned in my old, FLC for a new TAPS. It does have flaws, but it serves its purpose and I believe for the price and customizability it cannot be beat. Venture Surplus has some solid videos on it. Then I got introduced to a split rig. And man I fell in love. Easy on/off, nothing directly in the front of you and my personal split rig can be swapped between 556 and 308/6.5 mags. It holds loads so much better than the TAPS or any other system I've owned. My current setup has me with 2-3 quarts of water, 10-16 556 mags(8 easy access, 2 in a Spiritus SPUD, 2-4 in GP pouch), 2 frags, 2 TQ's, full IFAK (In a roll 1 dangler on my left side), radio and 2 large GP pouches that I'm still testing out for how I want them organized. VS my taps that hold 6-8 556 mags max of 2 quarts of water, 2 frags and 1 medium GP pouch and a radio while not supporting the weight very well. I used a custom made dangler mod for my ifak. This is of course, my opinion and I have not used the TAPS or my split rig in any combat situation. Only FTX's so far.

I just wanted to mention something I don't see a lot of tactical guys talk about when mentioning fighting knives/tactical knives. I've noticed many don't have a crossguard or carry one with a crossguard. But if you genuinely plan on using it in combat, I would highly suggest getting one with a crossguard. From police reports/officers I've spoke with, to historical accounts (i.e. the invention of the Bowie knife story), and of course just looking at modern testing videos from a myriad of sources (there's plenty on youtube, and otherwise) - all suggest a crossguard to be necessary on a fighting knife. The reason a crossguard is necessary is to mitigate a percentage of the risk the user takes when thrusting the blade. The chances of that blade catching or sticking on something hard (bone, cartlidge, whatever) are high, and the chance the force you applied to that thrust continuing after the blade has stopped (leading to your hand moving from the handle, onto the blade) are even higher. Having a crossguard in place mitigates these chances (though the chance is still not zero) significantly when talking melee use. Again - look at police reports the party doing the stabbing often ends up cutting their own hand and dropping the knife; the development of the Bowie knife and why it has a cross guard; or any of the testing videos online relating to crossguard vs non crossguarded blades during thrust test. Thanks.

This is the same rule I've been building for, I don't know how I'm gonna attach water to mine (condor 7 pocket chest) I might just get a 2 quart canteen and use a sling bag to carry it
