Welcome to the Bad Denim Review where I order jeans and try them on for you. Today we’re looking at the Levi's Ribcage Jean in Feelin' Cagey (Levis Ribcage Feeling Cagey).
The wash is a lovely worn black it looks like a pair of 501 that I would sift through bales and bales of vintage for. But here they have made it new for you.

There has been a lot of buzz around this one. When I had the shop I sold boatloads of the Wedgie Jean by Levi’s - terrible name - terrible name but wow it really flattered everyone. The idea was that it made your behind look lifted and perfect. Then they seemed to phase it out. Maybe because of the name. But honestly, it was one of those wonder products that suited everyone. Buzz - wise, this feels like that jean, part 2.
I’m trying it on and it feels like a 501 with a slightly higher rise. It’s hitting me - above the belly button, nice and square through the hips. But the Wedgie had a carrot leg, this one is much more now, straight from the hips, the carrot leg can make you feel a bit more rounded on top whereas this shape really balances you, it’s square. I went for the ankle-length, 27”. They also do it in 29”. Rather than measuring your inseam on your leg try measuring the length on to a pair of jeans you have already and you can cuff them up to 27” or 29” and see exactly the length.
I see now why they use the term “vintage fit” in the press briefs. It is like a pair of vintage 501s that you have maybe taken in for a more fitted top block, but then you get that lovely straight leg too. Re/Done made their name doing this. They mentioned Katharine Hepburn as the inspiration for this jean, there’s a picture of her in flats and fur and this is exactly that jean. Really this is THE JEAN it is I don’t want to take it off. That 1% of elastane (that’s the stretch fibre) just makes it so much more wearable than a non-stretch 100% cotton pair. It is lovely, hitting me in all the right places.
Now, what would I wear this with, I would wear them with sneakers, Mary Janes you could rock them with a chunky stacked heel. Now I’m just listing shoes, all shoes basically you can wear this with ALL shoes. When someone says an every day Jean this is what they mean. I might rock it with a black tee tucked in, oversized knitwear, a shirt. This is such a safe Jean for anyone that is hung up on one particular shape and wonders what the move on is.
I see why they have compared this to a 90’s era 501. Now the 501 is not one shape, the 501 is a Jean of the times for Levi’s - it adapts its changes to reflect what the standards are of that era. A Jean of the times. There is no singular 501 fit the 70’s era 501 is different to the 90’s era 501.
But that’s for another video, back to the Ribcage.
Am I going to keep this, I think you can tell the answer is yes. I’ve put a link if you want to try them for yourself below. They come in loads of different washes - I would also recommend the raw, true black and the mid-blue shades. I don’t know about the lightest wash. I tend to think you can only get an authentic light blue shade from a vintage pair. The new light blues can look a bit tooth-pasty.
I very strongly recommend you try these on.
We’re releasing new videos every Friday so let us know in the comments if there’s a Jean you’d like me to have a look at for you. If you love jeans like I do and want to hear about more delicious denim every week, subscribe.

I started off with a pair in worn in black and it's such a versatile color (dark grey with some beige undertone), goes with everything. Just bought two more pairs in ojai shore (light wash) and noe dark mineral (dark wash) they're the only jeans I wear nowadays.

The wedgie looks awful on me. Massive gap in the back of the waist and tight on my thighs. I hated it. Love the ribcage though

I sold the wedgie because they were true to their name 😅😶 Ribage for me is too high, it reaches my actually waist which is high up on my body, but the difference between my hips and waist become very great if my jeans reach my natural waist, so not only do I look like I have no torso, the ribcages that fit my hips then have huge gaps at the waist.

I wanted to love these sooo soo bad since I own 3 other pairs. I’m always true to size I’m these so ordered a 25 and they were sooo big on me, I exchanged for a 24 and they were too tight 😣 the 29 length in these were everything . For reference I’m 5’5 and 1/2 . Ribcage are by far my fave, ty for this review and hope it works for others 😔😔

I'm 5'2" and also love the ribcage! One of the few jeans out there that fit my 22" waist without waist gap, and the 27" inseam is perfection!
