@Old_School_BoxingFan1 it's "not to be fair" . Sherwood was given a chance to prove himself at another club, and he wasn't good enough. If he was good enough, he would be in a job now. It's really not that hard to understand
He's pretty decent, but he does like to play up his contacts with owners and Managers from being an owner where Crystal Pal!! Maybe I'm a little cynical but I think he over exaggerates his relevance and influence a little!
@floridaspurs4585.......Are you feckin' serious?!? ANY interaction involving Simon Jordan is predominantly ALL about HIM!!! There is a simple rule to any form of 'interview' - 'If you are talking, you ain't learning'. Despite Jordan's pretentious drivel at the beginning of these sessions about 'learning' - he blatantly doesn't understand that!
@@thesoultwins72I totally disagree, the reason why he is so in the know about most topics are because he does listen and does take on board. Intelligent people can talk and listen in equal measure.
As a Watford fan I always liked Tim Sherwood. Started his career with Watford (local lad). An honourable career on and off the pitch and a straight talker. Great interview - thank you gents.
Is that because you like people who like saying your team's name "What" which is pronounced the same as the "Wat" in Watford and Tim Sherwood is the master at incorrectly using the word "what" instead of "that". I.e "The team what was chasing us" 😂
typing this "quicker than a quick thing from quickland", I have decided to try a "square this circle", "notwithstanding that", if it looks like a "duck then its a duck" and you "live and die by your decisions" I have come to the conclusion this is the best new channel on RU-vid
Wow massive respect to Tim Sherwood. That is the first time that I've heard anyone in his position tell the truth. Could do with him as manager at Leeds right now.
@Harvey077.......Mmm ....your bar seems to be set very low. With 'run-of-the-mill' sports 'personalities' such as boxers, footballers/managers etc [where Jordan is mildly more intelligent] he can conduct a reasonably interesting interaction. However, it would be really interesting to see Jordan up against someone with far superior intellect or from a sport he isn't so familiar with. [eg: I would love to see him try to interview a Sir Dave Brailsford!] Otherwise, Jordan has to be the worst interviewer ever in terms of constantly interrupting and finishing the other person's thoughts. He also seems to have never been taught or learnt that the audience want to hear about his guests - and not about him!! PS If you really want to see how a proper interview should be done - take a look at this example of James Lipton with Clint Eastwood on 'Inside the Actor's Studio'. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xbo7u3JAmNg.html
Really wasn’t looking at this podcast as a good watch, but I’m glad I made myself have a listen, because I found Sherwood a very interesting listen. Well done UF
I like Tim’s principles as a man, we all know in certain circles you’re expected to dance to a tune, even if it’s to the detriment of success. I think Simon strikes the balance right when it comes to being forthright where as Tim needs to communicate his ideas through the lens of how his ideas benefit the stakeholders. Simons experience in business gives him that. Not what you say, it’s how you say it, that’s where Tim has come unstuck.
Thanks Simon another dignified quality podcast. I watched Blackburn in the 90s we got season tickets the season after they won it, 95/96, 96/97 and 97/98. Two schoolfriends and myself. Being under 16 we got concessionary prices. No more than £300. We were able to watch Shearer for a season and he was simply incredible. After that the team went into decline. Roy Hodgson was a disaster, so was Ray Harford. Brian Kidd bless his soul came in at the last minute severing ties with Sir Alex. After that I stopped caring. It was too painful to pay attention to Blackburn. Their star didn’t burn for very long but it was very bright in 1995. We were actually from Bolton. And one night my Dad and I saw Sherwood in the Bradshaw Tandoori. It was pretty obviously him, he was even dressed in Blackburn tracksuit pants, and he had his famous medium length hair. He even replied in a cockney accent. There was only my dad and I and I think I even had a Blackburn shirt on. I quietly walked up to him and asked if he was Tim Sherwood with the hope of getting an autograph but he rejected me flat. He said (in his finest London accent nah mate and giggled. I just walked off crushed. Going off that unfortunate incident and despite his admirable frankness, the guy lacks a sense of humour. People remember how you are with them. I respect what he did as a footballer and for Blackburn but I’m not buying him a beer in a pub, no chance. One miserable overly deadpan boring dude.
yeh bruv, don't meet your heroes as the saying goes. My Dad met Jimmy Greaves at his book signing once in our home town and he loved him. Dad said you are the reason I supported Spurs his reply was, 'that's your problem then'
You can only go by ur experience& memory.. and maybe if (ur Dad)met him another time,it might have been different, but what u experienced on that occasion is the one that sticks in ur mind!.. And I think that is the common problem with many of these players!.They're so far removed from the fanbase&have very little respect for the Ticket holders because the revenue is coming from elsewhere! Not the fans
@@samburrell3288Wow,that was a strange response from the 'Great Man' but I think his whole career was very much like that..I recently saw a pretty indepth profile Bio of him on RU-vid( a Camera was following him around at Spurs&it showed him training,at home and in the dressing room before& after a Match & he didn't look like he fitted in or cared less, because on the field he scored bunches of goals, but he wasn't one for 'tracking back' if the team needed to defend& he made no bones about it!
It truely was a fairy tale when Jack Walker got King Kenny in to be manager of 2nd division Blackburn. Remarkable. Thanks Tim. Thanks for the memories. Lump in my throat moment thinking about the glory days. Gutted we didnt build when the opportunity was there. To be fair we had some great years with Souness and Hughes. Im still a season ticket holder and my 13 year old son has been to 40 away grounds watching the Rovers.
Tims brilliant. Should have been backed and employed more. An absolute ray of light in the PL. He development so many young players at Spurs. Look at the state of the club now.
Simon Jordan...I love these podcasts. I moved out to Brazil 12 years ago and have a family here now and things like this really keep me connected to the country of my birth. You are a very intelligent guy and please keep up the good work. Nice one. I am a Forest fan and my adopted team here is Clube Atletico Mineiro (Galo) with Hulk.
Hi Mr Jordan, really top notch interview this, loved it man, I was a Blackburn fan as a kid , with Sherwood, Shearer and Sutton my main guys! Really insightful to hear Tim's view on the game football, Thanks!❤🇿🇦
I thought Parky was the best interviewer ever , he still is but Simon runs him close , he is very insightful and intelligent and knows how to get the best out of his guest and the occasion . It would be great to see Simon get his own chat show on main stream tv
Holding us back from what ? Winning the FA Cup ? I think you’ll find it’s the players with that , shocking vs Sheffield United. What about the 5 Semi finals bottled since 2001 ? Poch picked a half fit Kane vs Liverpool in the C/L final not Levy. I mean we’re the 7th richest club in England , where should we be ?
@@adammohamed..love it! Honest! Levy ,it seems challenges people! Typical High Street Tailor! He wants you to prove him wrong but not disrespect and humiliate him!
@@adammohamed.. Exactly, decades from now spurs fans may not appreciate the financial security Levy has created with the stadium and diversification of funding through NFL games and other corporate events etc.
Tim wouldn’t have been high on my list to listen to a podcast on in 2023 but this was a good and interesting watch. Feel like he had some great potential as a coach… shame it didn’t work out
Honesty is refreshing. It's good to hear about the inner workings without the usual press censored bollocks that's parroted by the clubs and players usually
Brilliant interview, think Simon has given Tim the perfect platform and asking challenging questions which has brought Tim completely out of his skin. Think Tim came across fantastically and if not going to be first team coach in the PL, he’s wasted in not working with the players of tomorrow and in development of these kids as I think he has that passion and personality to add so much value. I’d love him at Saints as overall academy director.
Just love the structure of these interviews, very enjoyable, & some brilliant guests. Unfortunately I'd forgotten about Tim Sherwood, but was reminded why I liked him as a manager.
Not sure why Sherwood gave up management. He wasn’t terrible. But he does go on about his time as a manager, as if he had a 30 year career , winning 10 titles
he really wasn't great. fine at spurs for a minute with a talented team... useless villa. His takes are often worse than Merson's! even Jordan has since said he suspected most of this interview was lies.
Sherwood did well to keep Villa up. The second season, they signed a load of French players who had never played in the Premier League before and sold/lost Delph, Vlaar, Claverley and Benteke the latter of which had kept them up more or less single handedly the two seasons prior to that. Any manager would have struggled.
Tim is very straight forward and hopefully he's giving a chance to manage again as he's not afraid to give young players a chance which is good for England
I come away from these incredible podcasts with the feeling that they could be even better with a little more time to really get into some of the conversational points. They move along far too quickly bouncing onto the next subject matter far too soon. 90mins would be a sweet-spot because not only would that give Simon time to really get the crow-bar under the subject but it will also give the viewing audience more time with each individual. Love the podcasts. Wish they were longer especially this one since there were a few times during this one where follow up questions were obviously required but time constraints meant swiftly moving to the next subject.
@@MW92. what’s there not to take serious about Kane? when he’s arguably one of the best strikers in the world currently and eventually will break Shearer’s PL record?
@@hellohi1445 I don't see how you or Sherwood thinks its unreasonable what happened with Kane. Every club he went on loan to and even Football Manager ( which is incredibly accurate with player assessments ) so its the chairman and DoF wondering why Sherwood was opting to pick someone that was an unknown quantity that hadn't demonstrated the ability to compete at that level. i think its a fair question to ask. Also, Spurs have been significant better under Levy than before him. Its undeniable fact.
To answer Simon’s first question about Jack Walker’s money. The contemporaries at the time were Lionel Pickering at Derby £10m and Jack Hayward at Wolves £50m who were vying with Jack Walker £50m to improve their clubs. The TV money wasn’t a consideration for any of them. Blackburn bought very well and had some outstanding players but also got the most out of players like Mark Atkins, Tony Gale, Ian Pearce and Robbie Slater.
@Simon Jordan. You were right the transfer value relative to today, but when Blackburn were spending £3.5M on Shearer they also sold him for £15M further that same season United spent £7M on Cole.....
Super fantastic interview especially Mr Sherwood's honesty and explanation about the goings on at Spurs and Villa. Many people call Spurs, "Tottenham Hot Sperms"... always shooting blanks.
Another great episode. I've always liked Sherwood myself and I thought he did a good job considering at Spurs. I think he could be a good manager for a mid table club. Fantastic again though. Great interview.
I always liked Tim Sherwood he's football minded a good manager and coach, he should be in football either as a manager or coaching overseeing new talent. So he found Kane not poche. Great player & coach. I have alot of respect for him, even though I've never supported any of his teams he's played for or coached, but I admire him.
Brilliant podcast, I love listening to Simon Jordan, no nonsense and honest, a breath of fresh air in todays soft society,.I also remember buying my first mobile phone from one of his shops!
46:54 Managers who are working with the players day in and day out should totally have a say in what type of players they want in their squad. It's no good that some "sporting director" making decisions separate from the manager and just giving players who can't fit into the system. Look at Man United who have wasted a boatload of money on players that weren't a good fit. They need to work closely together to recruit the best players for the team at a good price.
Round about the 50 minute mark, it seems pretty clear to me that Sherwood is making a brazen pitch for a job with Youth/Academy development at Tottenham! This would obviously account for his steadfast refusal to blame Daniel Levy for any of the club's football misfortunes in the past couple of decades!
Love ones like this. He’s so different to the man you’d judge him as from his after match interviews. Or when he talks about himself in the past. I always felt he was shamelessly self promoting and saw himself as Mourinho. It was good to see the calibre of the man once given the chance to explain himself. Your a top fella Tim. And many a club could and will do much worse than to hire you. As Leeds and spurs will no doubt!
If Cantona doesn't get suspended (at Palace, of all places), Man Utd do the double in 95. It would have meant 3 doubles on the bounce.... but it wasn't to be, and Blackburn deserved it too.
Yeah. Even though that season liverpool and Newcastle both spent more and didn’t win the league. The Blackburn side came to something like £16.75m to build and the ManU side that didn’t win the league that year cost £19m. Try reading a little more and maybe you may know somethings. Note: reading means the whole article rather than the headline. Girls like a sense of humour. Ever wondered why you are so unsuccessful with the ladies? Maybe your definition of hilarity has something to do with it. ⬆️ Now thats hilarious!!
The hilarious bit is that you actually think they did. Liverpool's defense in 95/96 cost almost as much as Blackburn's entire squad. Collymore cost more and Shearer, Sutton and Newell combined. Check out what Man Utd's and Newcastle's squads cost at the time, and compare it to Blackburn's spending.
Well done Simon, a very interesting interview. Tim really knows his stuff, a very switched on guy. I'm a Saints supporter and would have loved to see him in charge of us, in the Championship.
Brian Clough was absolutely correct!! These owners & Chairman who know virtually nothing about Football trying to tell pros what to do is the bane of this game!!
I’m a Chelsea fan but I’m sorry to see Sherwood’s management career didn’t work out. I don’t know why but I’ve always liked Sherwood, he’s got a certain charm and charisma and skips past the bullshit and says it how it is and it’s a shame it’s not worked out for him.
I got the feeling that Simon had had his ear bent by a certain Mr Levy that Tim Sherwood was an "awkward so and so" but I thought Tim's honesty shone through
Another great podcast Simon, always liked Tim sherwood great player in his era, Imagine this for a set up, Simon chief executive Roy Keane manager Tim sheerwood assistant manager 😮
Tim's right about young academy players. Look at all the home-grown players who have been overlooked at first, gone abroad to Germany, or wherever, and then brought back for maga-bucks.
In 1995, Man Utd, Liverpool and Spurs all had more expensive squads than us. It was a team effort, supported by investment but genuine talent and graft
