Lexus ISF exhaust compilation I've owned. Borla catback and bazooka and PPE headers etc

Various exhaust setups I have had on my 08 and 12 ISF. Loved the stock headers+Borla+muffler delete/bazooka the most so far. Perfect blend of throaty but not much drone and very daily drivable. Still searching for something better for the spring. Listed as in video:
1-completety stock- nearly silent, only sings above 4k.
2-Borla catback-minor drone but fairly quiet. Most surprised it didn't sound like this from factory.
3-Borla catback with muffler delete-similar to RR Racing Bazooka tips. Minimal drone, almost less than Borla with mufflers, but much throatier sound. Loud enough to grab attention, but not too much.
4-PPE Unequal headers without cats and Borla catback. Sadly didn't realize till later that I had an exhaust leak. Droned but was quieter than borla with muffler delete.
5-PPE Unequal headers without cats and with Borla with RR Racing Bazooka attachment. Loud. Terrible drone. Sounds like a monster ripping it above 4k. Smile won't come off your face and multiple thumbs up a day, but taking a simple drive to the store or work is a headache. Not daily drivable and good luck with cold start with neighbors. This setup in the video was actually after I installed two small resonators that only helped tone it down maybe 10-15%. Without the resonators it was even louder..
6-PPE Unequal headers without cats and with Borla. As mentioned, I added two small resonators and it wasn't enough, so I threw the mufflers back on and now it's quiet and still some drone. Not OEM quiet, and sounds good above 3k, but I want the bark back from the 3rd option I had(Borla with mufflers off but stock headers).
Come spring time I will try something else! Goal is HKS or Joez, maybe something else. Any ideas?

if you don't bounce the rev limiter in basically any Toyota performance car what are you doing? even the Scion TC pops when you hit redline

Currently I have xforce non varex version. I'm debating on removing mufflers.

If you have stock headers it will be a good sound! With headers it will be too much. That's why I currently run a xforce varex with headers.

Really nice car man!! But what kind of exterior mods have you done to it? Cuz it looks really dope! I’m planning at buying a white ISF as well

Thanks! Both the F's had Tom's replica diffuser. The white ISF had front lexon lip and replica cf side skirts. The silver F had bayson r front ebay lip, and ebay skirts. Both had vinyl wrapped roofs and 35% tint.

Hi from Perth West Australia. I am looking at moving away from BMW M cars. Want something Different and more reliable. I am In total confusion about what mods really work with the ISF. Iam looking at ISF faster and he seams to kill a lot of cars with just a relatively cheap exhaust and sounds no bad although I would prefer something louder but not crazy. Headers are very expensive for us because of the exchange rate so I thought primary cat delete. The stock cars seem a little soulless compared to a M3 but I drove a 08 with lsd , coil overs, rr tune , sway bars, 2012 wheels, and full borla exhaust , very nice indeed. Also went in one with PPE headers and tune and that was very powerful. Mate, ant help in the right direction would be very appreciated. Merry Christmas. Dom.

Hello Dom, happy to offer my advice. ISF is definitely a bit muted compared to an M car off the showroom floor, but there's easy ways to improve it. First off I recommend at least a 2010, or better yet an 11+. That will give you the LSD, and in the 11+ the updated headlights, better suspension for handling and comfort, wider wheels, bluetooth and other minor bits. The 11 ISF matched the lighter E92(with semi slicks) at VIR exactly just with the LSD/suspension upgrade over the 08-09, so it may feel muted but the ability is there. If you get an 08-09 the LSD is less than a $2k upgrade but if you just want to daily drive the car is plenty of fun still. Next I'd recommend first modification be the lower control arm bushing. They are under $400 and come from RR Racing as the USRS or Figs has a 90 durometer option as well. Both increase handling and braking stability and offer less front tire wear. They are more useful than a front sway bar. Making the jump immediately to headers and full exhaust and tune can definitely be pricey, can smell bad, and as seen in my case drone can be difficult to deal with for a daily driver. I would honestly just do LCA bushings, catback exhaust, a tune, and better/lighter/wider wheels and tires. Headers you can always do later, they give the best HP bump and are a good replacement as the stock manifolds tend to crack as they get up in age/miles. To give you my experience with drag slip times and the power numbers I've seen: stock ~350whp, 12.7-13 quarter. With my 2008 silver one I ran a 12.7 at 112 with borla catback, which is supposed to add ~15-20 whp. Adding RR Racing tune and better summer tires I got it down to a 12.3 at 115. Roll racing I've kept up with headers F cars, but not headers/exhaust, those I lost by a car at most. Not sure of the WHP improvement, maybe 10whp, but it is felt. I have not run my 12 ISF yet, but with headers/tune/intake/catback/summers my seller got 11.9, and even 11.7 on slicks, I'm hoping with some improvements I can beat or at least match it come spring time. Headers alone offer about 30whp and maxed out NA they should be at 420-430whp, just scratching the 500 crank number. They are great cars and relatively cheap to own. I avg 20-21 mpg and if I baby it on trips I can crank out 28-29 mpg. My 12 has HKS coilovers, figs 90 bushings, rays gram light 57cr wheels, rr racing tune and tuned intake, ppe headers, borla catback, and Michelin P4S in front and PSS in rear, lexon front lip and replica side skirts/diffuser. zachary paris you’re absolutely right. Of all the ones I’ve had including my current Xforce Varex+ppe, I’ve only liked it and the Borla muffler delete with stock headers, nothing else.

@@sircefiro no on my silver F I always kept the headers intact. On the white F I had ppe unequal length headers which are catless.

​@@sircefirodid you get the headers in the end , I'm in NZ too , just wondering how much the unequal headers were to land here ... just looking to buy now , looking at 2011 or later ,,, hopefully get later model ,, low km , .. mines not going be daily driver ( got gs460 for that). . This just a toy sorta , but am going to do headers , exhaust and air intake , plus lower steering .. plus tune .. you done any mods on yours ? any probs or ?? do U daily drive yours ?

Which spec would you recommend with the borla set up? Just standard? Hows the drone as i daily mine. Advice greatly appreciated :)

I loved the stock headers with Borla with the mufflers straight piped. Was loud without being too much, and very tolerable drone. Adding headers amplifies noise and drone much more. Personally I think even regular Borla drones a bit much for me, I think due to the metal being thin and thus light. I hate drone but found the Borla with mufflers off, but stock headers was tolerable. I drove MD-FL-MD within 4 days and didn't mind it at all.

Just got the xforce non varex exhaust and I’ve been running ppe headers. Only have had the setup for one day but I’m not getting the aggressive downshift sounds (aware that the sound will become louder overtime), but did you have a tune with your ppe and xforce setup?

What rims are those on the white isf thanks o want specs also. I just installed ceramic coated uel ppe headers with borla exhaust magnaflow muffler option and 2 long resonators installed over the stock borla resonators, it’s not that loud at first but when the exhaust gets warmed up it gets real loud but I can manage, i drive the car once a week so it’s ok for me. I might end up trying the greedy titanium exhaust see how that sounds.

DaggerX15 I run Rays Gramlight 57CR 19x9.5+45 square. I just installed the Xforce Varex dual mode system so it’s both loud and quiet. Love it

Excellent video. I’ve been weighing options lately. so far ive decided headers (haven’t decided which brand) doing headers w/ high flow cats + a Magnaflow w/ a small muffler of some sort. Ive only found one video of a guy running Figgs or PPE headers w/ cats everyone seems to go the catless route. I really like how 2 & 6 sounded.

@@Jrob94 yes. I ran it like that about a year but it really wasn’t much louder than OEM. Sounded like it should have from the dealer. Then I straight piped the mufflers and loved it like that for 2 years until I got my next F and it had headers and borla as well.

@@valdaviper1 I see rr racing has 2 borla catback systems but I’m not sure if it’s the one you have. One has the catalytic converters and rear mufflers (magnaflow) still on and the bazooka has two catalytic converters with the rear mufflers deleted.

@@Jrob94 RR racing makes a catback very similar to the Borla design. The difference is both of their systems have quad tips at the back replacing the OEM oval tips. With Borla the tips end before the “fake” OEM tips start. They also offer two options, magnaflow mufflers, which are slightly louder than the borla mufflers, and the bazooka, which deletes the mufflers and gives you straight piped at the back and also quad tips. Both axleback pieces from their catbacks you can add to a regular borla catback. When I deleted my borla mufflers I tried the magnaflow mufflers with quad tips, but didn’t like the bigger tips rubbing on my diffuser, and it wasn’t much louder than the borla mufflers. When I straight piped the mufflers I kept OEM tips. A lot of combinations. Every catback for the ISF like the Borla, Xforce, Joez, PPE, Greddy, etc. all delete the secondary cats and offer larger piping, thus the performance benefits for all are largely the same. There are also valved options which are helpful if you have headers.
