In this video I’ll show you how I replace/rebuild the VVT-I cam gear without completely removing the actual cam itself and the timing belt. This is a delicate process. Please take the time to do this, for it could mess with backlash and engine timing.
O-ring can be purchase from eBay

@@Jursaw it's the magnetic clutch attached to the ac compressor! Have to either swap one out from a used Denso ac compressor or buy a new Denso one. The magnetic clutch doesn't work well 3rd party unless it's Denso. Denso is OEM.

I have done it two times on different gs300's and i cannot break free the 14mm up front even with two different impact guns, I figure since it's not leaking it doesn't need to be changed.

That may work for the IS300, but the cam sprocket is different on my GS300. It's not a continuous rubber circle.

Did you need to set the motor at Top dead center before removing the cap?
@SokhomGarage
@SokhomGarage 2 года назад
No, because im not exactly messing with the timing, and the the timing belt stays intact, it doesn’t come off, but yes, you can set it on the timing marks for safe measure.

Did this stop the leak it looks like there’s another seal behind the actual gear within the head that might be the source aswell.

Is this a safe way to do it cause you said that we shouldn’t mess with the timing too much. My IS been leaking for a good while now and Ima pretty sure it’s that because my from cover have all over and I just did my valve gaskets
@SokhomGarage
@SokhomGarage 2 года назад
I can’t say that it’s the safest, honestly looking back into this, the timing belt never comes off, but it’s an effective method, just as long as you mark/score your position and location.
@JoyLong

Bro, put it back the same way you took it off, not a big deal, just mark your position, don’t twist or turn any other way.

Out of curiosity the inside of the cam gear has oil in it did you fill it back up if so how much did you put in
@SokhomGarage
@SokhomGarage Год назад
So yes, it did have oil, but it didn’t continue to leak once you’ve taken it off, you might lose a few ounces or so, not a big deal, but you can also determine that by checking the dip stick, check the level to make sure it’s good.

which manual you use? there are serious errors. The five 10mm is 11ftlbs, 14mm is 60ftlbs - the 60ftlbs is from genuine manual.
@craigwalsh8116
@craigwalsh8116 Год назад
60 ft lbs is what the internal 10 mm hex bolt is torqued to. That holds the intake pulley to the intake camshaft. The 14 mm is just to seal the front of the VVTi gear and it's torqued to 11 ft lbs (page EM32 in FSM). Since he is not removing the VVTi gear (you would need to remove the timing belt to do so), the internal hex bolt does not need to be removed. As for the five 10 mm bolts, there is no "official" torque for them since the service manual simply states to replace the whole VVTi gear if it is leaking. 11 ft lbs is the consensus in the forums though.

I never had an issue, but it might be the oil control valve getting stuck open, might want to check that, it’s the big silver part that sits behind the VVTI cam gear.
