I absolutely love my Alienware! Motion clarity on that is world better then any other lcd monitor I have owned but more importantly is the blacks being actually black vs the grey/light bleed which ruins dark games or games that have a day night cycle. Even 16:9 on the Alienware is AMAZING, due to the black bars being completely black I don’t notice it’s a 21:9 monitor. Simply the best in single player games and better in shooters then my last lg 2560x1440 165hz nano ips.
Good comparison, was considering to get one of these 2 and got the AW3423DWF now. Holy that monitor is insane good, had the Samsung G7 240hz before, that already had pretty good picture quality, but this is on another level. Love the brightness and color accuracy and I just found out it even has an build in FPS counter that actually works (compared to RivaTuner OSD FPS)
This is fairly unscientific and he did not say the setting or brightness level or if both were in hdr or not and everyone already knows that the qd has better colors because no w pixel
Both monitors are at 100 percent brightness in HDR mode. The Alienware is in HDR1000 mode. The LG is in Gamer 1 mode at 100 percent brightness. Both are set to 75 contrast. White level on both set to D6500 and tested with a colorimeter (Calibrite Display Pro).
@@vektoriousproduction from what I've seen vivid is the brightest setting on the LG in hdr but I don't think that really matters the qd OLED was always going to be better in brightness
Thanks for the comparison! I'm trying to decide which way I should go. Any chance of doing a CSGO comparison please? I bought the Neo G8 last year and the only reason I returned it was because the motion in CSGO had the stuttering or tracing when you move the screen. The only way to remove this smearing from the games was to turning the motion blur on but there is no option for this on CSGO and I actually don't like the motion blue effect on any other game either. Thank you!
Hey, thank for the video. Could you tell me what colour depth was both monitors ruining by any chance? Also can you notice colour difference in movies between on HDR between 10 bit and 8 bit?
Will do the next vid in 60 FPS. Going to see what I can do if I was to film the video in 120 fps slow motion and than edit the video down to 60 fps so that it’s easier to see the differences in motion clarity
I have both the dwf and the lg right now deciding which I want to keep. Honestly leaning towards the lg because the qd oled seems to blow out bright highlights and eliminates a ton of detail. LG seems to balance the HDR performance way better.
IM seeing that as well seeing this comparison is making my decision to go with the LG 45 OLED much easier. people fail to realize just cause one screen can get brighter doesnt mean that the picture processing the image on screen is better. Sony XR processor is their TVs can test to this theory. The X90L is still a king in TV market and its an old LCD
@lj123900 I ended up sticking with the dwf. LG is just too dim in SDR and the dwf is still glorious in HDR. 45 inch just has terrible pixel density. It's essentially 1080p pixel density.
I have both right now trying to decide which one to take back as i can only keep one. But man the AW just pops and colors with that glossy screen are so crisp. LG is definitely faster and motion is top notch. But I the visuals on the QD oled just get me everytime. Might have to send back the LG.
@@ViceVerseAh I actually ended up keeping the LG because I mostly play FPS games, Call of duty, warzone ect… The LG is definitely the fastest monitor with best motion clarity. But if it wasn’t for me mostly playing FPS games I would kept the QD oled but the LG monitor is just to good for FPS.
I bought the Alienware and took it back the next day. I love the glossy but i just couldn't stand the stretched out games and 1440p on a 34 display i guess just wasn't it for me. Graphics looked soft.
Thank you for the video, can you help to show how is the matte vs glossy with dark games/movie? Lots have complaining the matte doesnt give you pure black.
Can you play warzone on both monitors for a comparison please and if you can, could you possibly try to show dark corners/areas of the map to display what monitor has a better black equalizer advantage
Thanks You think the new LG 27GS950qe (brighter than the 27GR950qe) will be on par with the AW3423DW? I have the AW3423DW but want a faster refresh rate monitor, 240hz or faster
its extremely obvious at 2:54, when he sweeps past the bright area in the background, its essentially completely dull and dimmed by the LG. At 3:00 when the red, glowing spartan runs across the screen, he's glowing white on the alienware, but more of a matte red on the LG because it can't get nearly as bright. Lastly at 3:12, the buttress going across both screens shows the color difference very well. the LG is a dull gray, whereas the alienware is a nice multitone red/gray/orange.
Wasn't LG saying at CES that the 27 ad 45 inch monitors were using META panels with MLA? If so the difference shouldn't be so stark. Hopefully we don't have another panel lottery situation on our hounds as with the 42 inch oled and the EX panels.. Could be I also misunderstood the sales rep or they had no clue what they were talking about, maybe they all just use deuterium based panels (EX) or something. Also this is just a random comparison of course, no measurments were taken and the angles from the monitors to camera are different as well. The ambient lighting could influence glossy vs matte panels as well. Hard to draw any real conclusions tbh. Not that this is not a helpful vid btw, just kind of thinking out loud haha
Hello there bud, how can I contact you ? I need to ask you about certain things in between these displays. And thanks for your really useful video, I appreciate it !
Hey bud, will work on that for you. Will probably take me a day as I have all day business meetings at the moment. I will get some more content out shortly. Thank you for the support and I am excited for you to get your hands on this amazing monitor.
thanks bro. I am about to buy one of them. I will chosee AW3423DWF as I am not competitive player I see much more advantages for AW than LG...Also warranty +1 year is also important for me.
If you still deciding which one to get, go for DW model. It has better HDR in peak 1000 and can run 144Hz 10 bit colour. DWF can run only 100Hz 10 bit colour and broken HDR peak 1000. Dell is trying to fix the HDR peak 1000, but it snot fixed yet. However, what I see online HDR True Black is as about the same and most people prefer that mode for HDR content. You can set Custom Resolution for DWF and get 157Hz 10 bit colour. But that involves overclocking monitor pretty much, dunno much about effects that monitor has in long run after overclocks. I've got DWF but if I knew all this before I got the monitor i would go for DW, cause i mainly want better HDR experience. DW model is not much more expensive now anyway when you get them with discounts.
So I just placed an order for the LG OLED monitor. I have to see it for myself bc some say it’s the best looking monitor they have ever used and some say they are returning it.
@@amosdotson I absolutely love it !!! I think the ones crying about brightness haven’t owned an OLED before or is just used to their hella washed out bright IPS panel. Seems plenty bright enough for me.
@@jsands9885 better monitors are out now or coming right around the corner. unless you get a killer deal i wouldn't get it again. the ppi is really bad.
Debating on waiting for the g9 oled especially since they surprise launched the g8 oled today and screwed me out of getting it while I was at work and now its sold out
@@vektoriousproduction I went back to the video where I saw the comparison between this and an Asus LCD. it looks as though I got them the wrong way around, which is why I thought the white subpixel was missing. My bad! I've edited my comment so as not to confuse other viewers.
For those wanting the LG. I had to return it. Yes, it is beautiful when playing HDR content and is super smooth. The problem is when playing SDR content. The colors don't look really that great because of how dim it is. Compared to my Aorus LED, SDR content on the LG looks kind of bland. Also, the Vivid mode is the brightest but it also also looks kind of too blue. The remote is nice but not having a joystick is criminal. I do wanna love it but just can't. Not being able to crank the brightness when I want to just improve the image is a deal breaker, not even using the Nvidia control panel can fix this. You won't believe how bad is on SDR till you have side by side with another good LED monitor.
I think the brightness issue is overblown. I have the monitor and by far the biggest issue is text clarity. The monitor gets plenty bright unless you play games with full sunlight hitting the screen or you have an LED light right above your screen. Unless you are used to burning your eyes out.
It has everything to do with personal taste. Many gamers crank their brightness up on their monitors but not all. I'm using my XL2546K right now at about 25 brightness, with minor daylight coming in. This is comfortable enough for me to use. It's exactly 1/4 of this monitor's total brightness, bringing me to about 74 nits at this brightness, give or take. I personally ordered the LG for a few reasons. The main reason being that QD-OLED is more susceptible to permanent burn-in than WOLED, due to how the pixels achieve white and the filtering going on, but also because this one was on sale for me and I already own an ultrawide, so I know many games don't support 21:9. Plus, 240hz > 175 hz any day. The anti-glare matte coating was absolutely not a dealbreaker for me either. I'm used to seeing monitors with a sort of grain on white and black, due to the nature of typical LCD panels. After seeing video comparisons of the LG to the AW3423DW, I found ultimately the coating really does help with small amounts of ambient light compared to the glossy finish, which reflects very easily. Of course this is mitigated by the brightness of the AW3423DW, but that makes it more likely to burn-in as well. The text fringing issue will likely be resolved with time across both different technologies.
I currently play with a Dell VA 165hz but I have a couple oled TV and an OLED laptop. Overall I would say that the LG looks more true to life in this video where the Dell looks blown out especially in those name tags in halo. The more vibrant colors of QD oled are nice though but the curved display and 34" size isn't.
@@ArcanineluvsU Yea they suck, and there is no way around it. The form factor means that videos don't play right and other content is stretched. Many games are not built for ultrawide and they don't look right. It is a niche resolution that comes with its own problems. For $1100+ there is no reason to compromise and get something that is both bad for work, bad for text and bad for some games. The LG monitor isn't perfect but that is what I have now and it is good for HDR games specifically. Not that good for top down games like MOBA's which is disappointing that again it can't be "one monitor for everything". However the standard size and resolution means that everything works natively and looks as it should.
@@Jimster481 A lot of people like it so no they dont suck. Much more immersive to play games like that. Most games and content are fine on it, only old games can be bad but even some of those can be solved. I dont get why the LG is not good for moba.
@@xalzor740 Actually the LG now after the break in period is better for MOBA's especially if you play in Full Windowed and set HDR on desktop. If you play in full screen it goes back to SDR and peak brightness is 220 nits which is too dim.
I play on a 300nit Samsung 28" 4k monitor that is capped at 60hz and has garbage HDR & its 3 years old.. Would the brightness actually be an issue for me with the LG Oled monitor? I've never had an issue with brightness on my current display, or felt that it needs to be brighter. I know there's tonnes of devices with way better brightness
Probably. I have the AW and I have to put it in 16.9 mode for Warzone with black bars on the side. I have LG coming in on the 1st and I’m going to compare because I love the AW colors and brightness in hdr
@@b_dominant7726 I still have both as of now, got the Samsung oled g8 coming today so I got to choose one out of the three. After playing with the LG some it’s definitely faster panel but the brightness just isn’t there. The QD oled panel blows it out of the water. So more than likely I’ll keep the AW or G8 oled
@@b_dominant7726 Yes I mostly play warzone. I don’t notice much input lag at all. AW is definitely the best monitor I’ve had but LG is faster or just feels little smoother maybe because of the 240hz. But I do put the AW in 16.9 when I play warzone so my eyes are not panning all over the screen.
Camera Overexposure! Your eyes have a significantly wider dynamic range than cameras which can only ajust within a certain range. Either way you can only have one exposure for the entire image instead of splitting it up. The result is either one display looks much dimmer than the other one if there is a brightness difference like in this case where QD OLED is brighter, or like in this video example one looks "normal" while the other one looks "blown out" with loss of detail.
Which would be the better overall monitor for gaming i never had a ultrawide monitor before i do some casual cod playing and single player games an answer would be appreciated thanks 🙏
@@califorupha1574 I was reading forums yesterday and there was topic with 50 answers that 21:9 isnt working in Overwatch 2, but idk. Dont have uw anymore and i dont play ow. 😀
Hey buddy was just curious what what picture mode you’re using on the LG monitor ? I know people say the LG is really dark but didn’t know if you found a way to get around that with certain settings. Thanks in advance & great video
I was playing the game in HDR in Windows 11. The picture mode on the LG was in gamer 1 with 100 percent brightness. If you want the brightest possible picture in HDR, utilize the Vivid mode. If accuracy is more important to you, Gamer 1 works perfectly fine.
@@NormandyN7 have an AW3423DWF, literally do not remotely care about the colour banding, this is the best Ultrawide monitor you can buy. The refresh rate is more significant, the pixels respond as fast as it gets but then there's no BFI so it still hurts :s
Great comparison man, do you use either of these monitors for work? I’ve been wanting to get a AW3223DW for awhile, but im worries since I code for about 8 hours a day before I game, the burn in potential is high. Even with lowering brightness or using SDR, burn in seems inevitable. Your thoughts and experience?
I use both monitors for work as I work from home. I am use mostly the web browser and typical productivity apps 8-10 hours monday-friday. As long as you set your task bar to hide automatically and set your monitors to go to sleep within 5 minutes of being activity you should be fine. I would also only use SDR mode when doing productivity mode. I have both monitors calibrated to 120 nits which is more than bright enough for my office. The issue with burn in only happens when people have the monitor on 100 percent brightness and dont have their taskbar set to hide automatically as well as setting power options to shut the monitors off with 5 minutes of inactivity. I love the set-up and it allows me to have the best of both worlds in one package.
3 minutes is too short, one game only ? I would love to see more different games, and it is very hard to compare like this, main action are on the left side. From my point of view, LG win this fight. Better sharpness, text are looking more sharp on right side, same goes for textures. Is it due to the camera you are using?
Great to hear this, speed always matter the most, however may i ask you the black equalizer on LG is as good as Zowie? i am afraid if i can spot an enemy in dark environment with this LG Woled
@@iamccwwcc No it’s not better than the zowie to be completely honest when it comes to black equalizer. But you can adjust for that in nvidia control panel, in game brightness, and in windows to an extent. The clarity, responsiveness, and sharpness beats the Zowie. And it’s hard for me to even believe that, because I am a Benq Zowie Die hard especially for that Dyac+. I was gonna wait for zowie to drop a 1440p 240hz with Dyac but I took a chance and got the Lg and I’m glad I did
Definitely prefer motion clarity & higher FPS w/ LG. They also are tried & true w/ their WRGB panels. QD still needs time to mature. The real test will be who comes out with a 32in 4K OLED high refresh panel the fastest.
@@mannyman139 a 4090 can definitely get close to those high refresh rates, maybe not 240hz, more like 165hz.. Then, come next-generation, can see top end going 240hz 4k.
Judging by how long it took them to make oled pixels small enough and bright enough in that regard to produce these ~110ppi displays it will take some time again sadly. wonder why its not a problem with amoled for samsung on smartphones.. but well that giant market allows for a lot more r&d
Stupid comment. Insane refresh rates are needed for esports players and they aint gonna use 2k or 4k resolutions. On Cs go pros rarely use even full hd let alone 2k res. Both are fast enough with main argument being picture quality.
@@mannyman139 If you lower the settings you can get high refresh rates even with a 4070 Ti especially with DLSS. Also not everyone plays triple A games, so 4K 240hz are great for those.
I really wanted to like the lg. Just can’t do it. Why they did not use a glossy blows my mind. Straight up vegetable oil Gaming. That is a shame; I had high hopes.
Went from a 240 hz ips to the AW3423DW and immediately noticed the missing 65hz. Couldn't get over it and returned the AW for the Asus 240hz oled. Its 30-40% brighter than the LG. Still have great HDR.
LG bezels are thick as hell. Please do more comparisons. Maybe some footage that showcase colors. I know Samsung has some HDR videos that try to showcase colors reproduction.
@@vorgonrynkodan1569 Thats all because of the way this video was filmed. The cameras dymanic range cant handle the brightness and for that there´s loss of detail and over exposure on the Alienware
Will film a comparison video with high end mirror less camera at 60 fps - unfortunately when the LG arrived I was on my way out for a vacation - I’ll be back Sunday, but will give you guys what you are asking for!
The motion clarity on both monitors is outstanding. We're comparing 175hz vs 240hz. Because both monitors are OLED and sport a .1ms response time, the difference between 175hz and 240hz is even more marginal. Yeah there's definitely a difference but it's nowhere near comparing a 240hz OLED to 165hz IPS. That difference is dramatic. WHERE is the 240hz qd OLED ?????
imo aw3423dw with xg2431/xl2566k is the setup you want to be running nowadays For comp shooters there is just better options out there like I mentioned that are less than half the price. For image quality/hdr it loses due to it's coating muting the colours.
@@futuristicguy190 yeah man I have pictures of the BenQ compared to the xg2431 and it’s night and day as far as how dim lit the xg2431 is compared to the BenQ
@@snackirl Not really. I'm talking about a product that is already announced in 2023 launch lineup of samsung that will be out in consumer market within 2 months. Then it is at least 12 months until next-gen which won't get past 240hz.
Oh god you got the worst of both worlds lmao. Single player monitor in the center that is brighter and better looking and competitive gaming monitor that is off TO THE RIGHT? Nightmare setup
@@futuristicguy190 The video makes the Alieware look horrible with lost detail, washed out look and hard to read text. This video makes the image quality look leagues worse with the Alienware's glossy screen. So its no wonder people are saying the LG looks more detailed and has better motion.
You can't say it if you haven't tried both of them. I used to own a 4k 48 inch ultragear oled with the same matte coating and right now I have the Alienware QD-Oled. Let me tell you, the glossy finish and colour reproduction stands out, and I literally mean it.
Keep the monitors in this brightness and you’ll see your alienware die in a few months, whereas LG lives. In fact, equalize the brightness of the monitors and the alienware will still die just longer. QD oled is nice but LG has the longer lifespan organic diodes in their bank. If you don’t believe me, take a look at their TVs, you see how many C2s fail? How many CXs have burned in? Not many I wager.
@@rahb2096 this was what didn’t sit well with me. LG has a short 2 year warranty that does NOT cover burn in. If they were confident in longevity they would have had the same warranty as Alienwares
