Appreciate the video. Our icemaker jammed and this video gave me the courage to take it apart myself My problem, if the helps anyone else, is that the ice expanded in the tray (water expands when frozen) and jammed the turning mechanism so it won’t dump the ice. The only solution I found is take it apart, put it outside and thaw it all. Put it back together, made sure all plastic parts that popped apart due to ice expansion were back together and it worked fine. Reason you have to take it apart is that if you left the door open to thaw it, you are leaving your whole fridge to thaw too Hope that helps someone. Follow his steps and let the whole unit thaw, then put it back.
Oh my gawd!!! FINALLY!! Someone who addressed the actual problem I'm having without being a self-proclaimed refrigerator repair specialist who ends up telling me to just take a hairdryer to the darn thing!!! 😮 Thank you!! 😊
Real straight forward Scotty G. Thanks. Mine works fine but my ice tray broke, according to LG I have to replace the entire ice maker because they don't just sell the tray!
My Ice maker stopped a making ice and before I was about to spend 150 on the ice unit I just did a good old unplug the entire fridge freezer pressed a few buttons to try to discharge all residual juice and plugged it back in and it worked. Start with the easiest fix first. I'm happy not to have done any real work and saved some money too. Figured I would contribute since I watched this video it could help someone as well.
This fixed our problem!! Our ice maker was making the ice but stopped automatically dumping it. We could press the button and manually dump it but that got old fast. Took a lot of effort to get that center screw off! Would also add that it took a few days to wake up and start working. Went on vacation and returned to the bucket being completely full upon our return! No issues since.
@@jordaeclark5 update- ended up not working a few days later. Had to have the whole coil unit (name?) replaced by a professional. Definitely needed a professional to do it bc it was very involved with changing out gas.
@@lindsaymoye3214 it worked because you turned it off for a while then back on allowing it to reset. If you hit your reset button and it dumped ice nothing was wrong with your motor
@@windstrings So what IS the issue with this symptom? Mine stopped making ice...I did the reset, and now it makes ice but doesn't dump/cycle... unsure what to check/do next.
There are a bunch of us on here all asking the same question due to the same issue: Icemaker makes ice, but doesn't cycle to dump the ice in the bin. When we hit reset, it cycles. This shows you that everything is working with the icemaker EXCEPT the sensor that tells it the bin is FULL. Why else would it not dump ice? The sensor appears to be infra red bulbs at the bottom of the tray that shoot over the top of the bin. When the sensors are blocked, DON'T dump ice. Not sure how to fix them. I cleaned them off real good and am waiting for ice to freeze now. Don't think we can get that part separately.
Our LG is a slightly earlier version as it does not have the ON/OFF switch for the icemaker. Mine was turning the ice into a block and freezing the whole assembly to the door. Saw a video where someone cleaned the water dispensing orifice. Tried that, no change. Inside the filler spout there is a plastic plug with a very small orifice. I pulled that plug out. (Mine was orange) 3 weeks later, no issues whatsoever.
I have the same problem in my LG fridge. It just overnight stopped dispensing ice. I have been through several videos. However, I can turn the actuator by hand. It is making ice okay, the flapper opens when you press for ice. No motor noise. I will check on replacing the actuator.
I enjoyed your video, I have a different issue on my lg.. my tray keeps popping out just enough where mine won't dispense ice till I push the tray back in the proper place. What should I be looking for as a cause of the problem?
You didn't show when you fixed the actuator. Did you buy a new part? Where? Thx for the video and my fridge has the same problem but, how do I fix the actuator?
I have a LG two door fridge and there is ice building up on the wire that moves that dispenses the ice. I have no issues with the water coming out of the fridge and have tried resetting the ice machine many times. What should I do? Do I need to replace the ice maker?
Scotty G I have the same ice maker as you do. Mine will make ice, but it won’t put it in the bucket. I replace the water filter ideas what my problem could be.
Scotty, thanks for the video. After you replaced the actuator arm, how easy was it to turn the metal connector? I can turn mine, but it takes a little effort. Should it turn easily or with some resistance? Thanks.
Hi Scotty G., thank you for making this video. Same ice maker as featured here. I have to keep pushing the reset button to dump the ice. I need your expert advice on how to fix that! Thank you!
That’s a very good question. I have not had the opportunity to work on that. I would review the schematic of the upper component and see of the reset button is a replaceable item.
Same for me. I've tried everything the other videos show. My only problem is I have to press the reset button to dump ice. It won't do it on it's own. Bar is not obstructed. Everything else works as it should.
Hey there Scott, ice maker seems to work in mine but suddenly water and ice won't dispense. Lights come in and nothing happens. What do you think? Thanks!
Hey Scotty G. Thanks for the VIdeo Great! My problem is this. I have water that dispense "Ok". But I have "no" water for the ice maker. Just does not fill. The switch seems to work, but when I turn it on and off the tray does not move (much). Is it sticking? Got any ideas? Again, I have water dispensing ok. Just not filling the tray and the tray maybe stuck.
I didn't fix it. I bought a new one and replaced it. The internal gears moved but the actual small motor was seized. So I had to buy the entire actuator. I found my model on ebay for $50
The actuator never free spins , the old one was probably fine. He never showed that the new one spun freely...bc it was no different. The gearing mechanism is fixed till it activates to dispense ice. Remove the ice tray, close the door & press the lever to release ice, you'll see it spins fine when activated, now try to spin it by hand....nope! That's normal operation.
Friend, I replaced my actuator and the ice dispenses properly. And that was the pint of the video. My original actuator was bad, buying a new one for $65 and replacing it myself fixed the problem.
I mustve missed something here. Did you just buy a new actuator part and replace the old one? Or was actuator frozen from ice and you thawed it out and reinstalled it? Or was it rusted and and you lubed it and reinstalled? Please advise the dummy here. Thanks.
We could not find exact actuator so we bought whole assembly. The new one has extra plug. Old one has two and new one has three. We tried to hook up not using extra plug and it doesn't work at all. Any suggestions?
Did you buy a new actuator or repair the one that was already in the refrigerator? If you repaired it how did you do that step? This is exactly what is happening with mine.
@@TiGress422 the actuator might be model specific. I googled my model number which is found inside the refrigerator near the door, and added the word PARTS. Several listing came up with diagrams and part numbers. Places like partselect, partsdr, appliancepartspro. Show up
Hey Scotty G. I have the same ice maker in my LG refrigerator but the issue lm having is that although I've forms in the tray, it just won't dump it! Do you have an advice for me to fix this problem?
Hey Scotty, my fridge brand new just a week old never dispensed ice. Same issue as yours. However, when we changed the actuator nothing happened. Any more ideas? 😅
I’m not getting ice or water. It doesn’t even make noise like it’s trying to dispense anything. Now the touch pad and the lights on the front panel stopped working.
My ice maker stopped working recently. Water always pours. After reset it made few ice cubes only in 4hrs. I also have ice maker on the bottom freezer comparrment. It never worked since I moved in. Reset/test does norhing. Can you help?
Sounds like something is wrong with the cold air blowing over the water, for the upper ice maker. You can check the to make sure the air is blowing strong, or it could be the compression of the freezer. Is your frozen food solid? If you place a small bowl or N old school ice try in the freezer, does it turn to ice the next day?
Hi Scotty G I have this ice maker and under the ice try on each side are little plastic tabs one of mine are not connected How can I fix that? Water leaks on the floor
Noticed no water line hooked up the the ice maker assembly when you removed it. Where is the water supply? (I'm asking because my brand new unit leaks water into the bin and down into the ice dispenser hole.) Mine doesn't have an on/off button either.
Hi! I have the exact same refrigerator but my problem is that the icemaker is slow to make ice. Even with new filter, same results. The water dispenser works great. What could be the issue?
Hmm. I assume not enough cold air flow. Does it work better if you use the Ice Plus option? You could lower the freezer temp. Mine is at 3. They are a rather slow maker
"SWAGGIN' it as I go...". Haven't heard that terminology in decades... For those that have no idea as to what "SWAG" is an acronym for, it's "Scientific Wild Ass Guess"...
Hey Scotty I got the same Ice maker you got. I've always got crushed ice and found a white plastic part in my glass which I know came out of the icemaker. Looks like a small wheelchock. It has a long gated hole in it made that way handle-looking thing. I'm sure it has something to do with Cubed and Crushed Ice. You didn't happen to see anything like that in there. ABS P/N MEA619928-6 HN.09.10 The 28 could be a 26 number are worn.
I don't recall seeing it. But I was more inside the motor that turned. Not too much at the area you speak. I would google your model and look at the schematic to see if it looks correct. Could be part of the method to toggle between cube and crush
I appreciate this video but I need someone that can tell me what's wrong with my LG Slim Space Plus ice maker. It works perfectly fine (makes ice, dispenses it, refills and makes more ice, etc., etc., etc.) for a while then, it stops filling (but continues to try to dump ice, but at that point there's no ice to dump). But if I switch off the ice maker for a couple of hours, then switch it back on and press the recycle button, it starts working again for a couple of hours, etc., etc., etc., I have searched high and low for answers. I called LG and they walked me thru some process intended to throw a code to diagnose buy that didn't work. I can't find anyone having this same problem of working intermittently, that I'm having. Any ideas on this? I'm like you, I can put two and two together to figure things out normally. NONE of the simple stuff is the problem. It's almost as if SOMETHING is frozen and shutting it off for a while thaws it out then it starts working again. I don't know...I'm stuck (and I hate to pay someone to fix anything).
That's a tough one. It does sound like something is freezing off. Once it stops making ice, have you taken the ice maker out and checked the water line to see if it's frozen at all. Also I'm not where the pump is located that moves the water. Something might be wrong with that Good luck post if you fix it
