This was measured on my 83" G2. Different models and sizes will have different measurements, but in a 10% window they should be in the 350-400+ nit range for SDR game mode, and 450-500+ for SDR movie modes.

Works for me! I get about 500-600 nits.But then only way for it to work is Turning Off GSR and TPC which I already had disabled and boy does this make a difference for me.I am not near to debate about burn in prevention.I just want to enjoy the beauty and all the benefits the OLed can give.

Well, you get way higher brightness on HDR, wouldn't it increase risk to burn in as well?

exactly what i was saying? so its pretty much just hdr brightness all the time? cant we do that anyways if we are always on hdr on say a xbox or something? i dont get it. it shouldnt make the burn in issue more since we should beable to have hdr all the time, they dont tell you to have hdr on all the time. so yeah

The HGiG issue isn't that severe. Either use it, or DTM on until an update fixed it.

Great stuff, thank you for all this! Wouldn't use this hack, personally, since color accuracy is a huge concern for me and I wouldn't go with such brightness levels anyway, even if burn-in wasn't an issue. But this type of in-depth info is just what I like to see.

Technically you could have it enabled when you calibrate but then it would always have to be enabled. At least for the picture mode that you would do it for.

classy boy dont you know that you must visually match whites from an reference display on todays tvs? no spectrometer will read LED light correct they only work with natural light that CRTs and Plasma tvs has. get a Plasma tv calibrate it with an profiled I1D3 meter and you have your reference. no need for an 8K spectrometer that will be really fucking wasted money

1. Couldn't you use the "colorcontrol" program from maassoft to adjust the level of peak brightness for sdr gamemode? "High" will always lead to maximum white subpixel dilusion, I think. 2. Lg's logo dimming doesn't necessarily dim the whole picture like sony does and isn't nearly as aggressive.

All that logo dim is bullshit, the TV will never allow a scene to be super bright, ABL is controlled IN Installer menu not Service Menu

Does this also raise fullscreen brightness? The only use case I might have for that is when using BFI on high on my G1.

Service Menu IS NOT scary many make it seem. INSTALLER MENU is the real place Engineers tools are and if you don't know how to use it could lead to issues. However if you know, LINE 99 could help control ABL for real, make it 50% and it will dim less noticeable

Depends how many hours are on the TV, but setting the screen brightness (black level) to 52 is usually good enough.

Ah yes the 400 nits I needed for an image mastered for 100nits :D jk, this is useful when using BFI at least, although even by default I still find enough brightness in SDR on my C1 even with max BFI mode

Yeah. Imo the brightness with bfi on matters to me in hdr. But there is nothing you can do about it in hdr anyway.

Anything but recent TV shows and certain movies is mastered in SDR, so what you watch must be very specific.

@@rbelson356 Exactly. Our use case is 90% terrestrial TV in SDR. I don't own an OLED yet (and really want one), but with the 'all conditions' living room we have, the SDR brightness of my next TV is massively important. RTINGS seem to be the only place that reviews SDR brightness fully (and provides figures), but as they are in the US, there is no Panasonic or Philips data. As it stands, I have very little information to go on in regards how an OLED will perform in our situation, which is a pain in the backside given the £1500-£1800 outlay.

Quick question about the ASBL. When it is turned off in the menu does it still work if you put it on in the logo luminance setting, or is that setting completely disabled?

They are different forms of dimming. I haven't tried that myself but they should work separately of each other.

Yes it still does and it’s weird that it does I guess the TPC part Associates with Auto Dimming and when you manual turn it on then it’s on only by you.

U can ,just download color control, I mastered my C9 with it and I use the TV as a monitor 5k hours still no burn in

@@Smood47 I tried, I really wanted to keep it but still it was not bright enough, so I end up returning the C2. Maybe if LG comes out one day with a 42' OLED with 1200nits or more, I'll consider. In exchange I got me the 43' X85K and so far I'm satisfied with the results (taking in mind that I'm a video purist) hope this helps.

@@Samir72 I've been using the C3 42 for work and home use on my desk, how is the LED TV in comparison? How is input lag, colours, black levels, etc? On paper at least it looks like a downgrade compared to the LG

@@phantomflame0658 That's correct, the X85K for mainstream is a decent TV but it's not for made high end. Specially when set to 120Hz, you'll loose about 10% image quality. So now, I'm debating between the 42'C4 or Samsung 43' 90D. Hope this helps

I did this on a CX before, yes SDR is bright but the point of OLED IS NOT to be BRIGHT like LED, is to shutdown Pixels to give the PROPER Blacks in scenes and Movies Black Bars, OLED is not for SUPER BRIGHT scenery, LED is for that, people seeking BRIGHT SCENEs do not play on OLED
