LGBT+ Discourse: Bisexuality and Fluidity of Labels 

I personally thought bi lesbains were bisexual women in lesbain relationship who just said lesbain because it was easier.

If you're collecting lesbian hot takes on the bisexual lesbian discourse I'll throw my two cents into the collection box: a lot of bi girls use the label lesbian because it is situational appropriate, and certain lesbians are mad not because it creates any danger to lesbians but because they hate bisexual women. Situational appropriateness can include a lot of things, like pursuing women at the moment, dating women at the moment, or even just expressing a connection to lesbian culture. In my experience, a lot of the lesbians who get up in arms about this are usually very fixated on viginas. They tend to also be transphobic and Ace exclusionary, but not always. I think the danger excuse is exactly that, an excuse. Bi women aren't putting me in danger because now strait men think I'll be into them, strait men already thought I'd be into them. I haven't been asked if I'm sure and if I ever think about dicks and did I know how big his dick is because of bi women, I was asked that because some men don't have any boundaries. The idea that lesbians can be changed by good dick gas been around for a while. Bi women don't need to give men false hope that they can fuck a lesbian, they already have it.

If you’re still taking any more lesbian hot takes I’ll give mine: you cannot be a bisexual lesbian. Lesbian specifically means a woman (or woman aligning person) being attracted to exclusively other women (aligning or otherwise). Because of this discourse I have many friends who are being perused by men at much higher rates than before. They also get more “corrective” comments including: men offering to “fix” them with dick, men insisting that they can be attracted to men, and the ever so common “you’re just playing hard to get”. What pisses this lesbian off about this whole discourse is that THERE ARE OTHER WOMEN LOVING TERMS THAT MULTI-SEXUAL PEOPLE CAN USE. Terms like wlw or sapphic can be used by bi/pan/omni/poly people with no issue as those terms only are defined by the love of women, while the word lesbian is not. The word lesbian is both defined by the romantic and/or sexual love for women, AND also the lack of romantic/sexual love for men. At least that’s how I see it.

Yeah, maybe i should use that label but due to my more favored preference, the ease of acceptance towards using the label bi, and my over all favor towards the label i choose to use it. Technically because i am attracted to all i could use it, but i am more attracted to people who identify within the binary than people who do not and tend to date within the binary. It's just my preference. Others who feel similar may just use pan. This is just how i choose to identify.

Yeah. Like my friend, who is also a member of the lgbtq community , found out that I identified as bi. But then I mentioned that I had a crush on this one non-binary person at our school. And he was like, “You can’t be attracted to them. You’re bi”. And I was like “I’m attracted to more than one gender, but not all genders”. And he was like “You’re pan. You’re not bi”. And then I got really worried that I was invalidating bi people and I knew that pan didn’t completely fit me. So, I just stopped labeling myself. I’m honestly just so worried about hurting and invalidating people. Because so many people in this community have been through so much and they just deserve love and validation and I don’t want that to hurt them. But then I realized that you can identify as bi and be attracted to more than two genders. To sum it up, it would have been much easier if we could just vibe.

exactly. i myself am bisexual and if i am attracted to a trans man i am attracted to him as a man and trans woman as a woman. also i go by the definition that bisexuality is attraction to at least 2 genders ranging from 2 to infinite but there is a recognition of gender within this attraction which is how i see the difference between pans and bis/other multi sexual orientations

The people who made up the label for bisexuality inculded trans people and non binary folks. It's to all masculinity and femmenity. It got co-opted by Terfs and twisted over history. People just need to let others identify as they want and dig for their history that's been buried throughput time.

@Cleverly relatable Username that's what I always got annoyed about when reading about people in the LGBT+ community saying that bi is just for being attracted to cis people. I hope those people at least realize how invalidating that could be to trans people. I'm most probably straight but a worry of mine is making a partner dysphoric by publically identifying as such because they don't identify as male, and that thought has been in my mind ever since I heard about trans people so to hear about people in the LGBT+ community treating trans male/female as separate genders from male and female sort of startles me sometimes.

@@probablynotyourmom6456 That's not true at all. Bi people don't necessarily have a type, and you can't create a whole sexuality just for preferences. Bi just means you're attracted to two or more genders, that's it.

O my gosh I'm like the exact same! I like lots of genders but I tend to id as bi because when I realized I was not straight, pansexuality wasn't really a known thing. So I ended up getting attached to the bi community and their vibes and stuff.

to me being bi has nothing to do with gender. it's about biology. male and female. gender is in the mind, it's apart of personality. my opinion. I like biological men and biological women. if you take the crazy parts of being of a non binary gender like the superiority complex that's a turn off. explanation. if you introduce yourself by your gender that's weird to me. or you put down binary people that's weird. if you claim to transcend gender like a god that's real weird. also unpopular opinion I won't date a trans person. not because of some imagined phobia. I am not afraid of trans people, nor do I hate them. I just don't see the point of sacrificing my own happiness for another person. also I'm married so this entire comment is hypothetical. if my husband one day told me he wanted to become a woman. we'd get a divorce. I married him for my happiness. him being happy makes me happy, but my happiness is number one. so if he wanted to become a woman that's cool I'd support him, but i wouldn't be happy in that relationship anymore. all of this is hypothetical, my husband is as straight and male as one could possibly be. my persobal attraction is masculine biological men and feminine biological women. everything in between I'd make a hard pass. that's my definition of bisexuality. id love to discuss this with others I don't know many people of the lgbtq (i know like 5 people) and I'd love to learn about others opinions. but I don't take kindly to insults so be respectful and I'll do the same

@@MichelleBrown-vg4np I'd like to say as a nonbinary person (who hasn't socially transitioned yet but like, I know I'm enby), we and some trans people introduce ourselves with our gender as a way of coming out immediately and making sure they use correct pronouns. I dont think there's usually superiority involved, just wanting to not get punched in the gut with a pronoun.

I refer to all people by their name just in case so as to avoid that but I don't see the problem with someone accidentally calling you by the wrong pronoun or using ma'am instead of sir or vice versa. if it comes up than sure enlighten me but if not i don't care. I'm biologically female. I identify as such, but I've been called sir or Michael or Mitchell if my name is being read out. I don't become irrate and break things or AXE people. it's not a big deal. and before you go yes it is it hurts my feelings. sure it hurt my feelings when my 5th grade teacher called me Michael every day for 10+ months. no I'm not in the 5th grade I should clarify I'm almost 30 now. my point is as that most people will apologize and correct themselves if they don't then don't associate with them. easy. that includes family members. they can suck a toe for all I care. besides I never said that introducing themselves was an act of superiority.
