This is my favorite Jim Carrey movie because it’s really a generic premise and script and he crushes it. I can’t see any other actor making this a hit.
@jp3813
@jp3813 3 года назад
There are other movies w/ the same premise?
@HaganeNoGijutsushi
@HaganeNoGijutsushi 2 года назад
@@jp3813 Not this specifically but the template is the one inaugurated by movies like "It's a Wonderful Life" - dude is too callous, focused on his work or something to appreciate the value of his family and human connections, something supernatural happens that forces him to face his flaw, he sees the error of his ways and redeems himself. You could date the concept back to Dickens' "A Christmas Carol", and this script hits all the typical notes of the modern incarnations of this trope, like the dad disappointing the kid by being absent at important points of his life. It is by all means pretty generic, and a lesser comedic actor would have made it turn out pretty mediocre. What really makes this movie work is how Carrey is at peak physical comedy and absolutely goes all out and then some.
@jp3813
@jp3813 2 года назад
@@HaganeNoGijutsushi The OP is referring to the premise though instead of the template.
@HaganeNoGijutsushi
@HaganeNoGijutsushi 2 года назад
@@jp3813 yeah, but pretty much no two movies, except for remakes, share the _exact_ same premise. Still, on its own it would be generic because it would just be that template with added a twist that alone wouldn't make it especially different. What does make it different is Jim Carrey's acting.
@jp3813
@jp3813 2 года назад

The worse thing about women like Mrs Cole (and for the record I'm not saying that no woman is a gold digger because I know that there are both men and women who are gold diggers and that there are men and women who use their children for leverage or for money or for revenge I'm not saying she isn't a gold digger who doesn't care about her children) is that when women like her come along she insults other women who were in a bad marriage who did have to fight for her kids because she didn't think they'd be safe with their father. When I first saw this movie a story had broken out about a woman who'd run away from her abusive controlling husband and had taken their children with her. She was still willing to share custody with him (ie he'd get three days one week and four days the other week) and was going to allow him the right to call or contact them. His lawyer advised him to take the deal. Instead, he trapped them when she and the children were in their car, poured petrol over them and the car, and set it on fire before shooting himself. None of them survived. And yet there were people on the internet saying "she'd driven him to it, taking his kids away from him like that". Chances are they were either just shooting their mouths off or hadn't heard that she'd been willing to share custody. But my point is that when women do act like Mrs Cole did in this movie, she gives people like that examples of women who do act like that, and so insult women who did have to fight for their children and to get away from their husbands.
