The original script actually had Daniel and Miranda getting back together, but director Chris Columbus, Robin Williams and Sally Field (all of whom had been through divorces) objected because they didn't want to give children of divorced parents false hope. Much better idea and truer to life

This movie is so good we talked about it in one of my sociology classes! A lot of people hate on Miranda and kind of cast her as the "nagging bitch wife", but now that I'm an adult I really love and appreciate her. I like how both Daniel and Miranda learned something in the divorce: Daniel learned how he failed Miranda as a partner, and Miranda learned that just because he wasn't a good partner, it didn't mean he wasn't a great dad. And in the process of divorcing, they learn to appreciate each other better! I just think that's really neat :)
@kateiannacone2698
@kateiannacone2698 3 года назад
I'm not sure I agree that Daniel learned how he failed Miranda as a partner. Like...she told him while he was disguised as Mrs. Doubtfire. But I think the fact that he still blames her for "taking his kids away" because she didn't say anything when the judge announced his decision is more of the same behavior that made her want the divorce in the first place: he takes no responsibility for his actions and when things go wrong, he makes her out to be the bad guy. That's what she says in the beginning: "You will not make me out to be some kind of monster here!" He wronged her in a BIG way. And he doesn't want to take responsibility. It's always about him needing his kids with him. It's never about how he treated her, or her happiness, or even what the kids need. And in the final court room scene, it hasn't changed. The closest he comes is saying "they need me as much as I need them."
@abolishpolice5232
@abolishpolice5232 3 года назад
@@kateiannacone2698 I mean I wouldn’t say he’s done a full 180 by the end of the film, but I think that scene where Miranda is venting about how unhappy she was with Daniel is a super important one because it’s where Daniel realizes the depths of the communication issues that they had. He might not be able to stop himself from being bitter but he does have the realization that he was a crappy partner…for the movie to be perfect they could’ve had him apologize to her for that, but then again how many men do you know in real life with that kind of self-awareness?

As a kid I always thought the mom was mean to divorce Daniel like there was no reason! Lol but now as an adult that I can see where she is coming from. He undermines everything she does with the kids, and was being childish but there is no doubt that he loved his kids so keeping them away from him was just cruel and did it to punish him when there was no need. Just my opinion lol.
@kateiannacone2698
@kateiannacone2698 3 года назад
I disagree that she was keeping the kids from him to be cruel. It was the court's decision, and even when they first announced it, she didn't look happy about it. When she came to pick them up in that first scene, first of all, the anger was still fresh for both of them, so neither wanted to see the other. But when the kids didn't come out, she came in and saw his house was a wreck, he still had no job, he showed her absolutely no respect (though granted that was a two-way street, but when anger is that intense and that fresh, very few people are even interested in trying to see the other's P.O.V.). But she was willing to consider letting them have the extra time with their dad after school until their 5 year old parrots him, saying "we're his God damn kids too!" And he couldn't even accept responsibility for that. He tried to blame the kid by dismissing it as "kids say the darnedest things!" So he kinda ruined that for himself. The second time, she was more impressed, and I think would have been more willing to consider working something out, except that it would mean getting rid of Mrs. Doubtfire, which, granted, I don't think is really great justification, but it wasn't out of cruelty. After he was outed, again, it was the court's decision, and he blames her for not saying anything to defend him. But frankly, were I in her shoes, I'd have done more than just not say anything. I'd have asked for a restraining order. He entered her home (and employment) under false pretenses, she confided in him things she wouldn't have if she’d known who he really was, he gave her "advice" that was manipulative and controlling and deliberately tried to sabotage her love life, and he assaulted her boyfriend with a fruit and later tried to poison him. And still, even after hearing her side of the story as Mrs. Doubtfire, he makes her out to be the villain for not defending him to the judge, rather than accept that these were the consequences for his actions. Edit: Just stating for the record, I do actually enjoy this movie as a fun, family film, but with a different actor and different direction, it could easily be a horror movie

Robin Williams was a great actor may he rest in peace and had many good movies both and funny and serious. I personally would suggest you watch Awakening 1990 or Patch Adams 1998 or Cadillac Man 1990

Here's a fun fact that you might get a kick out of: Apparently, the makeup was so convincing and fooled so many people, Williams went into sex shops IN CHARACTER and got adult toys, and NOBODY recognized him!

RW ad- libbed pretty much through out the movie especially the dinner scenes about the bracelet “is it real” and feeding a small country and the power tool and sexual innuendos. He is a comic genius.

Another good movie with Sally Field is "Not Without My Daughter", based on true story. If the movie came out today, it would be a scandal.

I love this movie so much and I love god there isn’t a stereotypical happy ending where the parents get back together

If the parents got back together I think it wouldn't of made sense and would of somewhat ruined the ending

90s movies are that great, they made he watch a movie( mrs.doubtfire) about a man in womens clothes in cinema, and i still love it. can you guys imagine what a shitty movie hollywood/netflix would make now with the same plot ?

1) 14:33 - it's a woman's thing. If a woman tells you she has a great recipe for skin cream, you try it out! 2) I hope you'll do a reaction for "Birdcage", best Robin Williams comedy! 3) I kinda doubt that a woman wouldn't recognize her husband of many years, even under heavy makeup.

The mask was not supposed to be destroyed Robbin accidentally let the blind down and it fell out the window and it was ruined so he improvised the cake scene.
