I had a stroke on the 14th of august 2004 I was paralysed on my right side I lost my speech and I couldn't even write my own name. I got movement back by exercise, I got my speech back by singing my favourite songs, i got my writing back with practice. 3 years later I gained a plumbing qualification. Dont wait for the speech therapist or any other therapist , believe you can , want it, be positive (when you can) . Take your time our bodies are amazing . My right side still feels a little bit weaker than my left and the sense of temperature isn't as crisp as my left , good luck to anyone who is where I was your amazing.

Thank you Brain, your video helpful. I to had a stroke and it helps me hear how to start out in a way that can be helpful. Mystery a bit the same as yours too.
I think it's great that you drive. I was cleared to drive by an OT. But I chose not to because of the stress involved. I think it's great your doing these videos. I have been doing some as well but mine are more about the emotional and statistical stuff.
You have right side weakness I feel you because people think you are not able to drive it sucks waiting for people to drive you to do what you have to do and Uber and a taxi to damn exspensive I drive even though my doctor suggest I don’t easier then said my vision got effected I’m a Iraq war. Retired vetran I’m trying to get VA to install adaptive Equipment i.e. Blindspot cameras I forgot to mention I have love so weakness my lifetime vision got infected I’m trying to get to the blindside cameras installed in my truck had a stroke nine years ago a major stroke suffered paralysis on my left side keep it up you doing a good job
you are doing great. some people may not understand how someone can get a stroke. some people may think that if a person is overweight, or smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol or have high blood pressure that can cause someone to have a stroke. and even though those things can cause someone to have a stroke, but the reality is, anyone can get a stroke, even a person who is 100 percent healthy can have a stroke. you do have a good video that can inspire other people.
I'll be 42 soon. Had my stroke a month before my 40th Birthday. I do continue to recover slowly, but in the mean time, life is pretty much back to normal. Not physically, but I still do all the things I love like work, travel, hobbies, etc. You won't hear me talking about God a lot because my faith is less traditional & perhaps even personal, but I do indeed have faith which will serve me well on my journey wherever it takes me
I can assure you that I wouldn't be doing anything like this if I wasn't 100% confident in my abilities. Always been a good driver. Nobody's chances of getting hurt are multiplied with me on the road
He passed the drivers test, I pretty sure. It's likely they had to pass more than one drivers test. The officials are skilled professionals and are capable of doing their jobs. Let them. I commend this guy.
Great Video Brian, you have come a long way! I'm proud of you for that. BTW nice soundtrack in the background "Daft Punk Feat. Pharrell Williams - Get Lucky" #LoL
The beauty of your channel is not only offering advice for DJs around the world, but giving a bit back to anyone willing to watch. Maybe, just maybe, we can take something away that will change our life.
... so it wasn't about punishment or reward for me, but for my family. You are right, nobody gets to stay here forever and seeing how it looked like I was going to stick around, the last thing I wanted to do was to be a burden. That was big time motivation. There was also that thought in the back of my head that maybe if I can get a reasonable amount of recovery, maybe I can help someone else some day. Maybe today is that day. Maybe tomorrow can be that day as well :)
We all have something that gets us thru each & every day. I saw your similar post on my last video as well. It's different for everyone & I will always respect everyone's personal faith. Sounds like you are doing GREAT! Something I can for sure relate to is we all tend to look at life differently after something like this happens to us. Keep on keeping it positive my friend :)
Your religious beliefs have given you that physical & mental strength that has gotten you this far and that's a wonderful thing. For me, when I was laying there in ICU uncertain of weather I was going to live or die, I accepted both possibilities & was at peace with whatever the outcome was going to be. However, when I left ICU, I knew the 2 things I needed to do more than anything else was to be both a father & a son. To do those things well, I needed to be well. That got me thru it.
I had a stroke and only drive around town but want to drive on the highway to a town 2 hours away and am still nervous about doing it, do you have any suggestions for me?
I didn't have a stroke but got into a snowboarding accident. It's like a stroke.....weak, pins & needles on the right. Have a left foot accelerator and a spinner knob on the steering wheel. 2 years, post accident, I think I drive pretty good. My wife agrees. My license was never taken away. I think I have to go to a drivers safety course and alert my insurance company?? Also, get a note from my doc (so they don't think I'm drunk if I get pulled over) I live in NJ. Also drive a truck. Anybody know?
Hi Brian, Is your insurance really expensive after you have a stroke if you return to driving. Is there insurance companies that don’t jack up there rates?
having a stroke can be tough, especially for a person who is still young. i am 44 years old. but i still can do most of the things that i did before i had a stroke. GOD can give you a 100 percent physically healing of a stroke but remember, nobody is going to live on this earth forever, and for GOD to heal your spirit is far more important than physical healing. any person can get a stroke, and nobody can live on this earth forever. this life is good, but the life with GOD is far more important.
Sir me and my wife also meet an accident.. She had brain hemmorrage surgery done.. Right now she is facing fatigue and sleeping problem... Till now are you suffered from fatigue problem ? It is possible or not got back old life as 100% please reply
This issue is really are you able to see, move and react in event of an emergency? I lost half of my vision in both eyes to the left side at the same time and can't scan to the left, for me you can image a clock; I don't see numbers 7 thru 11. Each state has different requirement for drivers including vision tests and I can' pass that test, so I can't drive safely alone; though I have never had ticket or an accident in over 50 years of driving and am a fairly safe good driver. My son goes with me and let's me drive as long as he looks to the left for me. I will tell him verbally what I see before I move to go forward to the left. HE co-pilots for me and i"ll drive only to the local store or to places with mostly right hand turns that I know very well, and the freeway is off limits. The issue is, if your insurance company finds you at fault if you have an accident and you have KNOWN deficits, they will refuse to pay your claim, and you may still end up with other legal problems including your license being taken away by the state. There's more to it than just "being physically able ato drive.... the question is "Should you?", not "could you!"
i am 44 years old. i was in a coma and i had a massive stroke about 1 year ago. it was GOD not doctors who took me out of a coma. i can speak clear. i am walking without using a cane but i walk with a limp in my right leg. my right arm is about 80 percent normal. i can lift weights with my right arm. but before i had a stroke, i had good jobs, a car, i bought a house, i had travel to 10 countries, but i was not serving GOD. GOD gave me another chance to receive salvation and repent from my sins
I still can't drive, not because I have failed the test several times, I failed it once almost 7 months after the last time I had driven. If you kept someone for driving almost 7 months almost everyone is going to be a little rusty driving. But that one time is why my DR doesn't want me to take the driving test again. It costs a thousand bucks to take the driving test. I failed the driving test because I drifted too close to the center line. if the person who had given me the test told me what I was doing wrong if I had some practice then I think that I would have done a better job of not drifting too close to the center line and would have passed the test. I gtake care of myself, I have almost no one to do stuff for me. I have a nurse to my meds for me and someone give me a ride to church and a brother who does my fanancial stuff for me, but I do everything else myself. I walk to the store or bus stop and get on the bus myself, and buy things myself and cook and clean my apartment myself, nobody else does anything for me. I was living at a nursing home only because it was too cold to live along ways from the store and having to walk all that distance was not fun. All I've asked for is to just give me the driving test again, if I fail for the same reason as the 1st time I took it, then I will wait a year and then try again. If I fail it that time then I will admit that I probably shouldn't drive then and will quit trying to take the driving test again. I had my stroke when i was 51 just over 2 years ago. I'm not like alot of people who have had a stroke, I'm alot younger for one, two I live on my own and do almost everything myself. It's just stupid to refuse to let me take the driving test.
Not only do I have to fight my own dr to be able to take the driving test, I have to fight most of my family who didn't think I should move back to my place after I lived in a nursing home during the winter weather in North Dakota in 2016-17. i still didn't have my dl through this winter and it sucked. I fail the dl test 1 time and now she doesn't want me to take the test again.
how old are you ? after having a stroke.you are doing GREAT. you are driving a car. thats wonderful. i will keep you in my prayers to GOD to help us stay strong. remember, it was GOD who kept you alive in ICU. please ask and beg GOD to give you salvation. i already accomplish more things at the age of 44 than many people who is 90 years old. quality of life is more important than quantity of life. some disabled people accomplish more things in life than some people who are 100 percent healthy.
You're lucky you live in America, because if you lived in Europe you wouldn't be allowed at all to drive in your condition. I also wonder whats up with your insurance. I could imagine that if you got in an accident (and I'm not saying you will, but you never know) they blame you because of your condition.
