I'm really happy for you. Your right that you should never give up on your recovery. When my stroke happened 8 years ago, they told me I'd never walk again. I might stagger like a drunken sailor, but I'm walking! Never give up!
New subscribers here..I too also suffered a stroke 2 days before my 39th birthday ..which was 2years ago.. it's been tough but I'm not giving up. U sir give me hope
My stroke was 23 years ago. Like you I hate doing exercise at gym but my Philosophy was to keep using my body as much as I could to get things accomplished. Improvement came, but very slowly, but I did improve even years after the stroke. Now I am in my late 70’s with a brain that is shrinking around the stroke damaged area because of age. I am losing abilities now even though I push myself, and walking is becoming very difficult. So I guess there is a point when nothing helps. But I have had many productive years by keeping active. I enjoyed your video because no one else tells you that by keeping active you can get a lot back. Thanks.
You have done amazingly well sir to have reached 70 pro s5roke. quite a motivation. I'm 55 years old and I had my stroke in 2021. It confined me to a wheelchair. I was off the wheelchair in a month without any physiio I'm ow struggling with mobility for two years. My arm swing seems to be holding me back. Please advise and motivate🙏🙏🙏🌸
Happy for you man, I remember when you post the first video about you're stroke. It's crazy to see it's already been 10 years, all your progress is great to see. I'm handicapped too, I have had it since birth but it's very similar to you situation. I have to say your progress and perseverance are inspirational !
Came here to say same. Not sure if I was more surprised by the news, or the fact it's been 10 years since the stroke! (just kidding. My step father had a major stroke and know how unexpected this kind of late recovery is.)
Hi brian. I have being listening to your stroke recovery of 10 years.i am a stroke patient from 2010. I do get frustrated because i also fractured my left stroke hand. What do i do?
So happy for you🤗 after 10 years you still see positive things happening💪👏 never believe a doctor that tells you after a stroke that you will recover up to 6 months post😥 that’s not true! Doctors don’t know until they experience a stroke....I just wish there was more research about helping stroke survivors recover......keep up your awsome work on recovering may God bless you❤️🙏
That is so amazing . I had a terrible hemhorragic stroke 4 years ago. My left side was paralyzed. I have the hyperextending knee too. I go to the gym every other day. I agree with you that PT and OT are useless. Thank you for giving me hope. I am so happy for you. ❤️
Thank you for sharing your experience.. I had a stroke 8 months ago, and I relate to everything you say, the struggle is real, I have ADHD and although I keep myself very active it’s the hardest thing I’ve had to go through in my life!! Yes keeping active is the key, keeps you hopeful and keeps you muscles from shrinking.. I had left side paralysis and have about 50% of my movements back, I am looking forward to joining the gym again 🙏🏼🙏🏼 Stay safe and stay strong💪🏼
Happy to hear your doing well. I have been watching many of your videos for some time now... excellent topics and suggestions you give to us all about our profession. I don’t really send massages at all to many bloggers.... but I find myself relating to you a lot... and I like to hear when things go well for you. Here’s wishing nothing but the best Brian. Mulch Respect from Los Angeles. 🤘🏽🤩🤘🏽
Hi, I just came across your post on utube. 57 y,/o stroke victim. I'm very impressed with your story. I had a hemorrhagic stroke 6 years ago Dec 2. I had right side paralysis as well. I couldn't walk, talk, etc but now I am able to do most everything except ride a bike, water ski, and roller skate. Lol I mirror your mentality and it has been what allowed me to heal as much as I can every day. You said you find ways a around your deficit, and that's true. I have remodeled a 100 y/o 4 story house with my significant other, I love to be outside, I keep busy as well. It's key!!! Any way, thank you for your post and I just wanted to a say from one warrior to another, keep going and your awesome!! Karla
Thank you so much. I really needed to hear all you’ve said right now. I feel my hope with motivation coming back after stroke 3 years ago when nursing home was in lockdown from Covid.
This is great. Thanks for this hopeful message. So happy for you. Been following you since my troubles 8 years ago. Researching post-stroke from brain surgery, I saw a lot of things on OT & PT that said you only really get like 15-20 minutes of therapy after they've set you up. Like you said, they show you the initial steps. I am thankful for that experience still. Being your own advocate and keeping active is intense OT & PT! Keep up the fight and spinning that wax! I think it's possible for us to all plug something back in. Have a good one!
WELL done you very inspiring 2008 stroke survivor .no rehab at all spanish healthcare system doesn't belive in aftercare i lost left side completely.speech etc.i walked tol the local pub(bar us speak) for exercise and build computers .to keep active 4 years of no treatment in spain was a bit of a setback meaning i walk with a quad stick.you've given me nore hope thank you

It's so heartening to hear you speak of your recovery. My stroke which weakened my 👍 gut side was 5 months ago. I just restarted occupational therapy today. The therapists spent a lot of time assessing my strength with various devices. I'm hoping to get my right hand working next year.
Super happy for u 💓 💗 💖 💛 ❤ 💕 I'm left side and one day I feel great one day next day or days I'm dead in the water. In my country there's no help I've been doing my therapy via RU-vid.
Hi Brian, DJ Ernie G gave me your RU-vid. I had a stroke 2 years ago, I haven't been able to DJ or Karaoke. I started DJ in 1987 and still love it, but I can't talk over the microphone or at all, I have something called aphasia. It's common when having a stroke, so I can't MC anymore I can't sing any more karaoke, and I can't remember the song title nor the lyrics. I am inspired by you and your struggle You are going. I will watch all of your videos and it will inspire me to keep DJing. Thank you for putting these videos.
Thanks for this great update - I remember your "Pimp Walk" video from a few years ago when I first discovered your stroke videos - how is your walking these days? Did it improve much? I still want you to DJ at my 60th in June 2024 in Vienna! Take care, Phil
I agree with pt. Half an hour wasnt doing it for me. I found an ot on you tube and i do more with them then i ever did with the pt. I too started fixing my jeep, which i love to do. Need to learn how to twist wire with one arm but i will learn.
I am 58, and 4 months ago I got a stroke (like you) on my right side... 50% straight down the middle... I am impressed by how much you have overcome such adversary... congratulations and best wishes
Muscle Atrophy sucks, I know it first hand. Then I went to an elderly Orthopedic Surgeon that smoked twice as much as an old steam engine. He did not believe in these new forms of physical therapy. I had been walking with the use of crutches for close to 6 years and with in a year of being his patient my crutches were gone and I was walking with a cane. It did take several years before I could go without my cane but there it just shows you all this new technology couldn’t help me but his simple at home exercises did. Brian my right leg was 3” smaller in diameter then my left leg. Keep up keeping a positive attitude!!
Hey Man! Just came across this video, and so glad I did. I am 5 years in recovery, from a Hemorrhagic Stroke. My right side (dominate) is affected. I do my own stuff too, and just found out about DMSO, and can’t wait to try it. I got fat, as well, and finally addressing it. Thanks for being an inspiration. I will get out of this chair!! P.S. impressive album collection!👍
My stroke was in May of 2011, this being June 2013, I’m hoping to improve much more, I’m happy to see your video to give me more hope 👍👍👍May God bless us all with complete recoveries,
Three months out from my stroke and so glad that I happened across this. so far I've recovered about 75% of my leg and maybe 10 to 15% of my arm. I'm left side effected and the loss of my arm has caused me massive amounts of depression because even though I'm right handed and I'm still capable of doing most things in life just fine, I've been a guitar player since I was a small child and that is always been one of the great joys of my life. I'm very concerned about the plateau in recovery that I've seen to hit but seeing someone in some new recovery after such a long time gives me quite a bit of Hope. thank you.
hi! I was also left side affected. tomorrow it's 3 years since my stroke. a few months after it, I tried playing guitar and had some minor progress but eventually developed involuntary tremors that show up on action... especially at 90 degrees. I actually had a band, gear and stuff... and needed lots of therapy to process that I'm probably going to live with tremors for the rest of my life. it's awfully sad, and I've cried that cry way too many times. the emotional impact gets better, and then you fall into a hole again, and then back up... it's a cycle :( if it helps: don't forget our arms need to coordinate many more joints than our legs to achieve precise movement. that's why recovery in our arms is clearly slower than in our legs... but it's still recovery. keep pushing yourself forward! I know you can!
I had a stroke 3 mos ago. My right side effected. Face (burning, numbness - no disfiguring), arm/hand. Thank God my leg is good. Foot burns, not always.. OT did nothing for me. I FEEL the pain is worse. Thank you for sharing YOUR experience. Gives me hope. Liked/subscribed.
Happy for you could you please tell us in detail what worked for you I’m five years in have made great progress but still need more. I have to have my b complex for my mental health
Hi Sir!🙋🏾♀️ How are you? How's your muscle doing now? Congratulations on this new endeavor in your recovery. Can I please speak with you? My name is Consuela Allen. My mother's right side was affected 5 years ago. She cannot write. She is getting sad and losing hope.
Had a stroke Xmas 2019. Left side affected calf muscle and thigh no strength. No feeling in my left hand! I feel you brother, I'm still try to get back to 100% good luck to you sir, nice stang
Thanks for sharing Brian! You talked about weight loss, so I would like to share this with you. About two months ago, my wife and I switched over to a low fat, whole food, plant based diet. No meat. No eggs. No dairy. I did not change diets to lose weight, but I have lost 10 lbs. without even trying. I've gone from 185 to 175 lbs. My energy level is up and I no longer need a coffee in the afternoon to be alert. I work full time in construction and my hands were always cracking and bleeding from handling drywall, paint and concrete. My hands are perfectly fine now. I don't need lotion anymore to handle the cracking. I always thought vegetarianism or vegan diets were just hippy BS, but after watching a few documentaries on Netflix and RU-vid, we thought we'd give it a try. I'm 65 years old, and still DJ on weekends. If you want to do your own research, Dr. John McDougall and Dr. Neal Barnard have a lot of lectures and interviews that are well worth your time. Here's a TED Talk by Dr. John McDougall ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d5wfMNNr3ak.html Here's an interview on protein: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_KvyAylxBkQ.html In this video, Dr. Neal Barnard talks about what to expect on the first 21 days of plant based eating.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E04WICTiL0o.html I am not a physician. It's probably a good idea to talk to your health care professional before embarking upon a radical change of diet. This type of eating has worked wonders for me, and I wanted to share it with you. Cheers!
Thats great to hear about. I'm guessing now you're going to try in incorporate a range of motion that tries to develop your right leg more. I'm sure you probably already know this too, but music therapy in stroke has some fascinating neurological implications too.
I recover your video today i am a stroke patients for 7 year trying to get back my balance and walking on my foot doing simpel exercise and going to the fisho some time but not given u the exercise that will make your foot get stronger some time i have tingling cramps numbenes what your advice for me please thank you for understanding me ❤
I found that going to the pool was very helpful after I was done with therapy. And I know what you mean about your strength - my ex called my good arm the "bionic" arm lol
Nailed physical therapy. I got tired of laying there stretching and paying for it. I saw the machine categorize me and expect me to fit the template and follow along and fought it the entire time. I pushed and pushed and expected to fix until it did.
the only problem for me is insurance only pays for so many sessions. if you have found a way to open pop top lids on cans, please share!!! i am 16 from my stroke. it affected my right side too. My left arm gets so sore from doing all the work!
Post 11 years on right-side stroke, I found Qigong, Yoga especially Kundalini yoga (works central nervous system and yoga mudras (hand movements) to improve & strengthen my left side. No insurance, RU-vid vids are free! Love & light on your journey💜💚
how has you arm and hand recovery been? I am 56, had a stroke at 55. I can ealk kind-of but my affected left hand is not functioning especially my fingers
I have attrifede in my left shoulder and hand. Physio can only do so much and it costs money. I'm not a gym guy either and I'm busy doing other things like yardwork and chores plus I'm not only a DJ. I build carpentry projects as a business. So keep up what your doing if it works for you.
Hi Brian, I also had a stroke in 2012. I am a bit (well more than a bit) older than you, but I totally understand your reasons for doing it your own way. Listening to you was making me smile, it was a bit like looking into a mirror. Best wishes from the outback in Oz.
My brother got a stroke just a month ago. His rightside was affected. He is able to sit now but unable to talk yet. We've been praying for him and told him to keep praying the rosary everyday with the help of his wife. He lost a lot of weight and is able to eat really good now. God is good!
Sir, you talk about doing things, building a car, under the car,how do you do that,? Did you recover completely from your stroke? I had my stroke in 2021. It confined me to a wheelchair. I managed to get off the wheelchair without any physio therapy. I'm struggling with mobility now. My arm swing seems to be holding everything backward. Please advise🙏💕🌸
I had stroke 10 years ago too. What helped me to walk betters was Tai Chi. I'm not trying to sell you on anything, I just happed to go to my wife's Tai Chi class one day. They taught me how to do the "slow walk" and it retrained me how to walk, as if I were a child taking its fist steps. Having a background in human movement, I analyzed how I walk. When I described how to walk, as a stroke patient, I thought the first thing that had to move was the foot...WRONG ! The first part to move is the knee, then the foot will swing forward naturally. Give it a try, it might work for you too. Think of trying to reach your chest with your knee, especially when walking up stairs. I balanced myself with a kitchen counter top. I then concentrated on bringing my knee to my chest. You really have to program the brain on what should move first in order to walk. My walking is not perfect, but it is a lot better than it was before that Tai Chi slow walk. My leg still swings to the right, but the foot drop is 99% gone. I found that healing generally, happed in stages. You reached a sort of plateau for awhile. Then one morning you woke up and something new would work and you kept that movement in your brain. I healed until the 6 year mark, and both obvious since. Goos luck with your new walk...
I fired my physical therapists (military). Useless. They kept referencing a book during the process. I fired them and continued on my own. My doc three months later said I was doing better than most patients. I know my body
Did you guys have incredible weakness my sister said she's incredibly weak. If so what did you do about that. I know there's perispinal etanercept in Boca Raton Florida that can bring almost everything back in 4 out of 5 patients but gawd thats $8,400 per dose
