Being in IT for 2 decades, I recommend going for a career change when your mental health is already affected and the stress is starting to take its toll on your well-being. I quit last week, and now considering early retirement or changing careers like auto mechanic or supermarket stacker. Not sure what to do, but being a software developer for that long has opened my eyes on the toll it took on my physical and mental state. I've been drained mentally almost everyday, developed insomnia and started having physical illnesses. The six figure salary is not really worth it. Without health, nothing matters.

I am happy for every person who have found the strength and the courage to leave the job that is making her/him ill. Very sorry for all those who have to work in unhealthy environment, this should not be this way. Companies and hospitals should stop their ill policies and start caring more about employees. While managers and owners get their million USD of bonuses and profits, the employees are suffering and carrying the system on their backs.

I don’t have Asian parents but my parents are the exact same way. I think it’s their boomer mentality where they can’t see outside of the typical, traditional life path in life. My mom immediately goes into catastrophe mode too!
