You were one of the channels that cleared the fog for me. As big as Graham Stephen is, his thumbnails and topics can be a bit too click-baity for my liking and too “what’s going on with the stock market these days.” Joseph Carlson. You. Nate O’Brien. And others took a level headed approach to finance that was a huge breath of fresh air. You guys weren’t as reactive and emotional to the news and posted thumbnails with flames, disappointed faces, and titles such as “I’m done investing in 2020. Here’s why you should too.” So so glad I got away from all that.

The thumb nail is hilarious! Iggy Pop turns into Jennifer Anniston after dividend investing! 🤣🤣🤣 Driving through fog is a great analogy. You have a clear goal with dividend investing, i.e. collect dividends - passive income. You're less concerned with stock price and when to sell as long as the dividend is still coming in. It is even better if that dividend is growing over time.
@DividendGrowthInvesting

lol I've been waiting to release this video just to see the thumbnail on my channel lol!!!! Yeah the price matters less (though still important) to me as long as the income is growing.

@@DividendGrowthInvesting100% I’ve been conditioned to receive a monthly paycheck during my working years. I consider DGI to be similar. Hey- great topic and video. I know it’s not directly related to this video but I was wondering about your decision to use options trading to make up the difference in your barista FIRE portfolio. Did you run an analysis on different high yielding BDC’s, RIETS, and existing cover call ETF’s and determine it was a better overall yield to use options trading to make up part of your income or were there other factors involved? Sorry if you covered this in your previous videos on options but I don’t remember you addressing those topics. Thanks.
@DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting 4 месяца назад
Hey! I decided to go with CC and CSP due to the flexibility and "potential" for higher returns. My goal is to get over 10% so BDCs and other investments wouldn't really get me there. Last year I got over 20% (return on my portfolio) so I'm happy with how it went but it could have all been just good timing. In a bear market, it may be more difficult. Time will tell.

In the aspect of paying off the mortgage, it might not have made financial sense to pay off house/condo. But the feeling of having zero debt of any kind is such a great feeling. My net worth has skyrocketed since doing it. Can’t explain exactly why, but the finances do not lie. I track my NW monthly and it has absolutely skyrocketed since that point. Got a large percent raise that I also attribute to my boss knowing I have the ability to walk at a moments notice(plus good performance of course). Currently sitting on 5.5 years of living expenses (at current value, not including dividends and capital appreciation)in my brokerage. If you have the ability to comfortably do it, I recommend it highly. 6 months debt free

It can make a lot of sense to pay off your mortgage early - but doesn't have to be the case for everyone. I've never heard anyone say they regeret paying off their mortgage. @@DividendGrowthInvesting I was at 3.99, had about 15 years left of the 30 year. Got it late 2017 and payed it off aggressively for the first 1.5 years. It was a rental and I sold my primary residence for a nice profit after 2 years. Had a 3.27 interest on that. Honestly when I paid it off I was just so sick of paying 2 mortgages and escrows, 2 HOAs, unexpected repairs, a special assessment, ETC. I could have easily bought PEY or SPHD and profited in the dividends, but I was tired of money going out right and left. Paid it off and invested the remaining $31k at a good time. Again relating to your mortgage, it doesn’t make mathematical sense, but it makes spiritual sense. Now my paycheck hits after investing 25% into my 401k, 15% after tax into my brokerage and the money just sits there until I spend it. It’s truly a great feeling.

Hey Jake , any thoughts on SRHR- it’s the first covered call reit fund that I’m aware of. I think it’s a cool concept
@DividendGrowthInvesting
@DividendGrowthInvesting 4 месяца назад
I don't like it at all. Just another fund trying to charge high fees for a "hot" trend in the covered call space. The strategy of selling covered calls on REITs is not appealing to me at all. The premiums are low on REITs. I much prefer JEPQ or JEPI. If you want extra exposure to REITs, I would personally rather just invest in VNQ or REITs directly. The only CC ETF that I am kind of interested in is DIVO but still their fees are pretty high for my liking.
