I had RNY Gastric Bypass on December 1, 2020 at Mexico Bariatric Center in Tijuana Mexico with Dr. Rodriguez Lopez. I created this channel to talk about my experience and how I have approached this process, before and after surgery.
There are some changes that are recommended for life. We often call them lifestyle changes and they are things we should put into practice as a habit forever after surgery. One of those recommendations is to weigh, measure, and track your food so you have an accurate idea of what you are consuming, how much, and how you are nourishing your body.

I have really come to enjoy your videos. You are very educated and everything you say runs right along with my surgeons suggestions, so far atleast! I like being here :) also, how did you get your name, 1 fat beet?

Thank you so much! 🥰 1 Fat Beet was just a silly pun I came up with a long time ago when I first started documenting my weight loss journey. I just imagined a fat beet wearing Beats headphones listening to a fat beat and it made me laugh. 😅

Thanks for the video. I will be relying on my scale from now on and listening to cues from my body. I’ll be one month post op in a couple days and can consume 2-3 oz of food before feeling slightly full and I stop. How long should I wait before trying to eat again. I really need to reach my protein goal but need to know how to space out my meals /snacks and still be able to consume 60oz of protein in a day. Also do you weigh your food before or after cooking, especially frozen/raw food or meat? What should macros be per meal?

I loved this video! And definitely going too try this recipe. Also I am newly a year post op on 7/8! I use to weigh my food off and on. But now I’m at the point in my journey where I am struggling with eating and what to eat or how much to eat. It’s a constant battle, so I’m not sure if tracking will help me or hurt me? Any thoughts, questions or advice? 🤍🤍

That's a great question. I also recently went through a period of turmoil about a year post-op where I was second guessing my eating choices and how much I was eating and it really sent me into a tailspin when I was diligently tracking my food. If you think that information might be harmful for you mentally, then working on challenging your thoughts about food and food morality is important - it's what has helped me stay sane and remember I'm in control. For a while I only weighed out the total amount of food eaxh meal to make sure I wasn't overeating but I wasn't weighing and tracking specific foods because that was too triggering.

after surgery do you ever fall back into “bad” habits with bingeing/ over eating?
@1FatBeet
@1FatBeet 2 года назад
Yes, absolutely. I have to be mindful because the urge to binge and overeat is mental so that doesn't go away with surgery. It's probably something I'll always struggle with personally. It certainly doesn't look the same for me anymore though because I can't physically binge like I used to because of the size of my stomach, but those urges to cope using food never fully go away and I need to actively choose other coping mechanisms and make sure I don't overeat. I also notice it manifests more in grazing on slider foods throughout the day now rather than sitting down to one very large meal. I have to stop myself if I notice falling back into that activity to cope.
