I NEVER would have expected COD videos from the vocalist of WhiteChapel, the man who sang the words "I will spit right in your fucking face. How does it taste after the lips are sealed below your waist." You're an inspiring man, Phil.
This guy really knows what hes talking about. If your young & rebellious try your hardest to stay away from irreversible body modifications & hand & neck tattoos.
I was at inch and a half and i had to get my ears sewn due to a bad infection, and it was a simple outpatient surgery that took about a half hour (per ear). It cost me about 500 bucks. granted, that's a hook up, its common that people spend from 1000 dollars to 3000 on the procedure. but depending on how well the surgery goes the tissue should heal in a couple of weeks. Just putting the info out there. be well.
I've been a fan of your band for a while now, but this vlog stuff just have shown a side from you that I have tremendous respect for. Keep doing what you love to do Phil.
It is so cool that you are so connected to your fans. I have never met you and haven't even seen you in person but I feel like I have known you for a long time. Keep up the good work!
I remember when i was like five years-old i wanted to stretch my ears(I'm seventeen now) but I probably wont stretch them now since my career plan would interfere with stretching my ears, however tattoo's wont negatively impact me.
4 years ago when the Possession video came out and I didn't know about Whitechapel, the only reason I clicked on the thumbnail was because of the size of your ears. Gauges that size was quite a shock at that time. I came for the gauges but stayed for the music. They worked in your favor, don't regret doing them.
I am usually VERY picky with who I subscribe to, and I have to watch a LOT of videos to convince me to sub, but after watching one video from you Phil, I have subscribed. You have an incredible voice, and I can tell already that you aren't the kind of person to shove your beliefs down people's throats. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos from you(:
You said everything I think Phil, my family is quite rigid and they never let me extend my ear or my tattoo before age 18, and I respect that, maybe when I have a stable life I do it more for sure not before this.
I'm 20 and my ears are almost 2 inches. I don't regret a thing. If if makes you happy, do it. Just be safe. Don't stretch too quick. Take your time. Most of all, think before you do it.
PHIL! I have been to 5 Whitechapel shows, last show we actually got to meet and chat for a few. You are a chill ass dude, we have matching plugs (I gotta resize up to you, fucked my ear up) I have been in your videos (well my sister) but just wanted to say, keep up the sick work bro. You are an inspiration and I am glad I discovered Whitechapel and you as well. Rock on Brother.
Thanks man :) I personally would never get ear gauges especially the gigantic ones. But, i would love to get tattoos and try different hairstyles. There's three different ones i want to try: one is plain 'n simple long hair down to my shoulders, another is dreadlocks and the third is shaved head but hair that goes down to cover one of my eyes. I think Scott Lewis of Carnifex used to have it.
If I were to get was stretchers (which I probably will), the size would most likely be a size 2g. Not too big, not too small and most likely won't get infected. As long as you have proper care and you know that you won't have to sew it up, you should be fine.👌
I remember one of his old videos saying that him and Ben Savage were in a metalcore band or something, he was the guitarist. The band didn't work out so he and Ben started another band with local friends and he became the vocalist
Wow, I didn't expect your opinion about tattos to be the same as mine. But anyway, I enjoy this kind of videos from you really much, it's like something that makes me more confident. c:
You're not an idol only for the kind and quality of music you make. I loved this video very much because i'm not the alternative poser that stretch his lobes only because it's mainstream. Please go on make video like this.
phones fucked up but yea keep it up & id like to see you cover more about being in a band. im starting one myself & i think it's very easy for alot of us to have the wrong idea about what it is to be in a band & what it should mean. please cover that topic more cause you seem to have a good head on your shoulders. thanks
I agree with you man, I'm 15 and I played in a hxc punk band and we got big fast. So I got my lobes to 40mm and now I don't have a band and I have saggy ear vaginas. I mean I love them and all, but jobs are a bitch.
Hey for future gaugers and just starting gaugers like myself, if you don't know this already, you can go up to 00ga size and your ears will probably shrink back to normal.
I think a good piece of advice towards people wanting to gauge their ears is to not go too big... Im not sure how correct this info is but Ive always heard if you go past a 00 gauge then your ears wont heal back up... could be bigger though. I had my ears at a 00 once and now they are 2's and if I get tired of them I can always let them grow up a couple sizes
It varies with everyone's tissues in their ears. My friend went up to 5/8ths and his ears actually closed up. I'm at a 1/2" now and my ear holes don't look too bad at all.
I really want guages and I know that if I can we I get older like my job allows it I probably will. Plus I'm not really into getting any bigger than like a 7 or I guess bigger than the base of my thumb. But also if my job allows it I'm getting tons of tattoos, if not I'll either try to hide the ones that I can or just try to get ones in hidden places like you said.
The jewelry in your ear is not called stretchers. There are a set of equipment you can use to make your size bigger (usually for lower sizes). That's what stretchers are. Plugs, tunnels and spirals etc is the jewelry.
That too. lol I was speaking more from personal experience, though. I'd never get a romantic flame tattooed on my body. Love is much too fleeting for that.
I took my plugs out when they were at a 6 because they weren't keeping straight (45 degree angle upwards). Been considering doing it again but not sure, my mom hates them, grandma hates them, aunt thinks it's the dumbest thing and one of my uncles doesn't like them. Plan on getting inked when I turn 18 next year though already have what I want
Shit, I just realized that it's under 3 weeks until I finally see Chapel live at the very first time! :D Gotta travel to the other country but I'm sure it''s worth it :)
my first tattoo is a huge piece on my fore arm. maybe one day ill regret it but im about to turn it into a sexy full sleeve and it looks beautiful so i dont see why id ever regret it
The only tattoo I have that I regret is the one on the side of my neck. My other ones I plan on getting covered up because I didn't put much thought into them. I had my ears pierced twice, first hole was at 00 and the second was at a two. Took them out for work and for the most part they shrunk more than I thought they would.
I know what all of those are, except tapers and stretchers are the same thing I guess. The straight, cone shaped ones. And yeah gauges are the size. I hate when people say "Look at my new gauges"
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it true that if you stay under a certain size with your gauges, that if you take them out, the hole will heal on its own?
Hey Phil, can you talk about how i can explain to my parents about how i dress and the music i listen to. They dont like and they think its really selfdestructive and they want me to look in a way i dont want to because they want me to go to College and get a job because apperently you cant get a decent job with tattoos or the way i look? I hope you read this. P.s Come to Denmark!
I got the inside of my left arm as my first tat and it actually didn't hurt me too much, maybe it's different for every person but to me it wasn't that bad. I hear that the top of the foot or rips hurt the worst for first tattoos.
Isn't there like a certain length you get to when stretching your ears? My sister has stretched ears and she said if she goes past a certain length, her ears won't go back to normal afterwards (without the surgery you mentioned). I think stretched ears look cool, especially on the characters in Mel Gibson's Apocalypto .
As funny as your recommendation was to get a smaller tattoo that's well hidden that's actually what I did. I got a little prison style smiley face on my upper thigh when I was 16. Now 21 I only gotten one more of PERSEVERE on my right rib. Hurt like hell but good recommendation Phil. Wouldn't have it any other way. Now when I take shit I always smile:)
1) 7 gauge isn't a size (generally) for plugs. It usually goes by two (6g, 4g, 2g) 2) The base of your thumb (Just guessing you're average sized) is probably gonna be like 3/4" plugs..which is pretty big. Just incase you didn't know haha.
I have a question for the Q&A. Whitechapel is my all time favorite band and it's really exciting that you live in tennesee, I also live in tennesee, anyway my question is would you ever consider playing a local show just randomly for your fans in tennessee?
7 gauge is a size, just not a very common one... there's a few websites I've visited that sell stone plugs and have them in between the common sizes (odd numbers)
Plugs are the ones that are like bath plugs, the ones you can't see through, Tunnels are the ones you can see through, stretchers are like stretchers, Tapers are the bent stretchers and Gauges is another word for size, like mm.. i believe haha
It depends on who the person is. Like, I'm at a 6g right now and I left my plugs out for about a month, and they shrunk back to a 14g again. But then again, 6g is a relatively small size, depending on your opinion. (My mom thinks they're huge)
I never really thought that gauges or plugs, whatever the hell they're called, were that cool. I do like piercings and tatts and I am going to get those if my music career hits off. As of now I'm keeping my body clean. The main reason is I ain't got no damn money!!!
Now that you speak about "Don't judge a book by it's cover." I saw you guys back in Seattle in the fall of 2011 with TDWP. First time I heard of you guys and I was blown away fyi. Later on while getting signings from TDWP, I walked over to say hi but you just jumped into the bus. Thought it was rude but I understand you're shy (I am too.) But watching your videos had made me realized you are very nice and down to earth and thought I would apologize for thinking you were a douche haha.
