Your reactions are SO GOOD, man. I've seen this movie many times, most often watching it with someone who had never seen it before just to get their reactions to it. Everything is so unexpected. King is a master storyteller. John Coffey has "the shine," which is essentially supernatural powers in the Stephen King universe, although the powers and their strengths vary from character to character. Lots of his characters have it. If you haven't seen "The Shining" I won't spoil it for you, but that's where it originated. I've heard a lot of reactors who agree with this being a one and done movie. It's graphic and incredibly heavy. But I love watching reactions to it, and yours was one of the absolute best. Thanks so much for sharing!

Yeah, it's a heavy movie. it starts out with some fairly straight forward moral questions that has easy answers. but the further into the movie we go, the more gray areas we hit between morality and law. I feel that the guards, as depicted n this movie, really exemplifies the meaning behind an old Norwegian proverb "When truth and justice differ from what is law, better it is to follow truth and justice"

We all got high on a fat blunt everyday, and the smell of pot burning w/ the botched execution scene made almost all of us throw up our lunch. I got serious PTSD w/ pot, it made me think about this movie and the roller coaster of emotions. Another series i highly recommend that makes you feel like a lost kid and believe... is Netflix's "THE OA".

Here's some tidbit of info: 1) Michael Clarke Duncan paid tribute to Tom Hanks at a celebration of Tom and saying that Tom was the one who helped/guided him how to do this character. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-47grTxhtN8o.html 2) Gary Sinise (the man sitting on the porch of the house talking about John Coffey) was the second movie that Gary did with Tom. The first one was Forest Gump, the second one was this one and the third was Appollo 13. In the scene where Lt Dan shows his new legs (titanium same as the shuttle), gives a hint of Appollo 13. Gary was so recognized after the movie Forest Gump, that people started seeing him in public and saying Hi Lt Dan ... so Gary started a band called the Lt Dan Band, and goes around to entertain the Veterans and is heavily involved with the Veterans and military as he has many in his immediate family (and his wife's family) that went to war and knows about PTSD, etc. Listen to his story here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3bbTOjBi7nA.html Also, of course Gary Sinise would be at the same function as Michael and took to the stage to do a tribute to Hanks. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rBhL2OztgFY.html BTW, here is a video of Tom Hanks surprising Gary Sinise, as Forest Gump when the Lt Dan Band is doing a live concert. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--ac2SfUUGZU.html 3) Some may not be too religious, but if you notice, John Coffey's initials are JC ... coincidence? 4) When Belinda asks where did John get his scars, he doesn't remember, but some have said that since there was no record of him before the girls' incident, that he may have gotten his scars from the days of slavery.

Tom Hanks is easily one of my favorite actors period. His ability to be genuine to each character he portrays, as well as still being the Tom Hanks we love is WHY we love him. He can do everything. You have definitely been on an "Intense Tom" kick with his roles, barring the comedy in Forest Gump. So may I suggest some earlier lighter Tom, that shows you his true comedic timing & gives you a different side of him, plus the tears are from laughter instead? My absolute go-to to do such, is called "Money Pit". Just trust me, you will never hear the phrase "2 weeks" the same again, lol. Also try "Splash", "Joe vs The Volcano", "The Burbs", & a beloved you may have already seen, but if not it's the quintessential Hanks, "Big". Another one that is comedy but also touching, & sort of shows both sides of him is Turner & Hooch, it's also action & great if you're an animal lover too!! I hope to see you in your next reaction as you are one of my favorites!! I had been patiently waiting for this one, lol!!

I always love seeing people's reactions to John using his healing power for the first time, but yours is the best so far. Although penicillin, the first antibiotic, was discovered in the 1920s, it didn't become mass produced until around 1945. That's why Paul was in so much pain. A urinary tract infection usually happens because you're not drinking enough water, which gives bacteria a chance to take hold in your urinary tract. I've had several. They are not fun, but luckily they are easy to get rid of with antibiotics, and/or by drinking a LOT of water regularly to flush it out.

Late to this one... Of course we must praise the performances for all the actors. Both Michael Clarke Duncan and Tom Hanks were on God level in this film, but every one (yes, especially the dude playin Percy) were killing it! But I want to make a special shout out to the man that often gets overlooked and yet is probably the single most important person for this film. Frank Darabont. He was not only the Director also the writer for this screenplay. He of course was working off of Steven King's work, which is often who gets the most credit, but even Steven King will praise Darabont for making choices in the films that differ from the original work and in the case of THE MIST, Steven King loved Darabont's ending far better than his own! Darabont as a director knows how to tell a story visually and her gets the most out of his actors. All of that is most evident with the performances he gets out of the actors on the three films he adapted from Steven King...The Shawshank Redemption (1994) , The Green Mile (1999) and The MIST (2007). So if you haven't yet seen THE MIST (2007)... add that to your list. Fun Fact, Frank Darabont was also responsible for adapting the Comic book series THE WALKING DEAD (2010) for TV and was the showrunner for the first couple of seasons.

For some context, the average lifespan of a common fieldmouse(which is most likely Mr. Jingles species) is around 1 year in the wild(due to predation), and 3 years in captivity. Assume we take the 3 year number. The average lifespan of a human Male in 1935 is reported to be 59.9 years, which we will round to 60 years. At the time Older Paul told Elaine about Mr. Jingles, 64 years had passed. (He was 108 now and 44 at the time.) Now, if we divide 64 by the 3 years a mouse in captivity can live, the math tells us that Mr. Jingles lived 21.3 lifetimes longer at least. Now if we take that number and apply it to Paul, it comes to 1,260 human years he could expect to live. And he's only on 108. Of course, it's possible that the amount of time was a set amount of years instead of an even multiple lifetimes. Nonetheless, by the implications of the movie, this is still a valid and terrifying thought.

I love this movie and have to watch it whenever it's on. Michael Clarke Duncan (RIP) should have won the Oscar for this role. Great reaction!

When this came out I asked my mom why those people would show up to watch an execution. She told me they are the family and friends of the victim.

This movie changed my mind about the death penalty. I used to be cavalier about it, no more. After learning about The Innocence Project I don't think the ultimate punishment should be carried out unless there is massive evidence of guilt. The only person in recent memory I can think of who deserves it is Darrell Brooks. No doubt of guilt and worse, no remorse what so ever.

Recent insight: That talk about there being no documentation on where John Coffey came from... Then, when they take Coffey outside, to drive him over to the Warden's house, Coffey points out "Cassie, the Lady in the Rockin' Chair"... I have to wonder if John Coffey had spent time in plantation slavery times, a century or more earlier. Because 'Cassie' is the constellation of Cassiopeia. Cassiopeia was a vain and boastful queen that features in ancient mythology. She was placed in the heavens by the gods, still sitting on her throne. But in slave times, she was seen in slave culture as Cassie, with chains on her arms and sitting in a rocker. What made her important to slave culture is the prominence of her constellation and that the North Star, Polaris, sits right above her. Polaris showed the way north to freedom for all escaping slaves. The story of St Christopher, of how he got to be a saint, is that a young boy asked a very strong helpful man to carry him across a dangerous river, and the kind man agreed. But when he lifted him, the boy was far heavier than the man imagined and grew heavier with each step; still, he carried him across. It was after reaching the other shore that the boy revealed he was the Christ Child, and that the heaviness was the weight of the world that Christ is always carrying. 'Christopher' means 'Christ-bearer'. He's the patron saint of travelers and wearing his medal is supposed to confer protection when traveling. Look instead at John Coffey's initials: 'JC'; that's the clue to John's true identity. Jesus cast out demons, to heal people. Coffey draws the demons out and releases them. Coffey converts the myriad demons that take life and health from us and transforms them into the symbol of corruption: flies. Released to the fresh air, those demonic flies quickly break down to whisps of smoke as they depart earth and return to hell. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Coffey raised a mouse while it still had a bit of life spark left in it. Coffey tried to raised the two girls back to life, but they had been too long dead; there was no spark of life left to fan back to a blaze; that was why he was wailing when he was found, because it so hurt his heart that they had died and he couldn't help them. Concerning the mouse: A mouse living in the wild has a lifespan of about a year. In captivity, the longest recorded lifespan for a mouse is between 4 and 5 years. Mr Jingles, when Paul introduces him to his lady friend from the Home, is at least 64 years old. I understand that, for YOU, this was an extremely powerful film. But let me also say, it is absolutely worthwhile watching multiple times. It's a very dense film; there is a lot of content in this film that makes you think. You cannot watch it once and get all of it. It does take multiple viewings to harvest most of what it has to say to you. This is a very spiritual film, and some lessons are very subtle. I would encourage you to sometime in the future bring yourself back to watch it again. It honors the fine acting, the great direction, the genius writing. And there is more to be gained from seeing it again, maybe sharing it with another viewer.
