Most of the underground images are in fact by J C Burrows and taken at Dolcoath, Cooks Kitchen, Blue Hills and East Pool mines, not Caradon.

Hard to realise when you walk over the moor from Minnions to the Cheesewring how industrialised the area was less than 150 years ago

Can anyone tell me the photo or is it a painting described as Phoenix United mine. Could it be the earlier Wheal Phoenix? I am trying to find a picture or a drawing of Wheal Phoenix as my great grandfather worked there in 1871.

Yes your grandfather would of been working at wheal Phoenix mine in 1871. As the mine did not become incorporated till 1875 and became Phoenix United mine. Mines went togeather in this time as the industry started to decline, Phoenix United ceased operating in 1898 and prince of wales shaft in 1914. Hope this answers your question!👍
