Hi & thanks for watching. This week is a busy one. We got ourselves 3 kittens, Felix, Jasper & Onyx. They are a handful but a cute bunch!
Sam has a go at welding & makes a lockable door on our barn plus other bits & bobs!
We have only been here a few weeks and feels like progress is happening on our derelict farm but we have a long way to go on this journey to create an off grid homestead in Ireland.

Welcome to Ireland, I've noticed more English people are coming over here to live. Apart from its beauty, they remark how peaceful and safe it is here, that's because Ireland has been showered with heavens blessings because of its strong faith. I hope you have a lovely life here, and your children will thrive and be happy, God bless. 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

Your kids may not like this due to wanting their privacy but I found when living a static in winter that all doors inside need to be opened. If a room was closed off with people in it breathing all night, it made the damp so much worse.

We left the UK bought a run down farm in Galway back in 2004. Its was a challenge we now have 50 breeding ewes 10 cows and a bull. We have our own well and run a small Air bnb.

Looking at your drone shots, you've hot a lot of Ash trees around. They are being hit hard with Ash dieback, so lots of firewood around you. Mate and his wife lived in a static when building their house. Was it cold? Well, they said they had to put on more clothes before going to bed!

I love what you are doing. The drone footage shows what a fantastic spot you are in. Being at the top of a hill, a few land drains added in the spring should significantly dry out the land. Cladding is a great idea if it includes some insulation. Team it up with a little log burner, you will be toasty through the winter and if you keep it ventilated it should also sort the damp Xxx

My gran's house, which had no central heating, forced us to come up with some unique ways to stay warm. I used to take the electric iron and iron the sheets before bed. This helped dry the sheets. Flannel/fleece pajamas, with feet, keeps you toasty and dryer. Of course, the ever infamous hot water bottle is a must. Lol

@@WhataTry some of us have to renovate to our income stream, we had to fix design faults to a now 160 year old farmhouse that every 30 years the orginal family, every generation did stuff to improve it, but technology has meant you now insulate all walls, roof, double glaze, install better heating system in a country where this costs a lot more than the northern hemisphere. There is a reason so many houses are now built with a life expectancy of 30 years in New Zealand. The cost of a full update of paint, flooring, curtains, plus kitchen, laundry and bathrooms is not a few thousands of dollars but many thousands per standard room. Until the Earthquake in 2010 my nickname for our home was bulldozer bait, but it sustained minor damage, a few cracks in the plaster in the one room left to renovate.

You can pop some waterlilies in there without the pots they will root to the bottom perfectly. You can get a couple of large ones. They can come with water snails too, i have some in our small garden pond. Near the posts you can put ferns like the one he stood on lol, maybe some of the big stones you cant use can be set into the ground flat as a part path or set in near the posts to provide flat edge for the ducks to perch on.

Keep cracking on guys. I live in a urrr purpose built house, black mould everywhere! The dehumidifier does work but it's a 24/7 process. If I have learnt anything, use lime create, platster where u can.

Moved over from uk to rual Ireland about 19 years ago on me own! Lol!!! It has its challenges! I had two fabulous kittens who lived indoors and house shed, never had a pest issue, they were 24 hour rentakill They passed away not long ago. Plus one of me doggies 🐕 Love the nature of rual living. Enjoy watching your videos! ❤ Enjoy the process ❤❤❤

❤ Great video! Omg those kittens….not jealous in the slightest! 😉 I’m not allowed animals until we get more done on the house 😢😂 but I am desperate for animals around the place! The purpose of the move was for animals…but we will get there lol. Love the door on the outbuilding, love Sam’s enthusiasm for it all!
