I remember going from the UK to Barbados at 7 years old for my first holiday, seeing black people on TV and surrounded by people who look like you, it gives you a new confidence and perspective
It hit me when you said to walk around with people who look like you. I never experienced that, must be wonderful 🥰. I'm not a self conscious person, I still walk out my mostly white neighborhood with my hair in a hair wrap, or in crown rolls or in twist. But I can feeeeeel the eyes and the judgment. Or the long states I get when I walk out with my very large afro....like I'm an alien from out of space. Would be nice to do all the above and no one even bats an eye because it's normal.
But even in black communities if you are not dressed a particular way and your edges are not laid or you're actually wearing sporting the hair that grows out of your head, you get those stares sometimes
Anyone not surprised she moved back to the US? most people who move to Africa move back to their home country within a few years. This happens all the time with travel influencers.
Me too. I think it's because you're operating on pure adrenaline. Adrenaline must suppress the appetite or something because it knows you don't have to eat lol.
Missed you so much. Glad you’re back and giving yourself the care you deserve 💗 Also thanks for the Nigerian series...I loved it so much! I really appreciate sharing the flip side of things which must be hard to do. I was so stressed seeing the crowds, traffic, but fell so in love with the people. It’s good to share the whole story because i could see some people going not realizing that it could be more than they can handle. I’ll be watching for videos though😂🤗🙏🏽
I pronise you, the rest of us in Nigeria are daunted by Lagos traffic too 😅 i spent the 1st 8 years of my life in lagos and then had to keep going back till i was like 13. I'm 30 now and i definitely never want to live there ever again! Nigeria is more than Lagos and im so glad i got to experience even more of Nigeria. Next time you come to Nigeria, try visiting other places like Abuja, port Harcourt, Kano, Bauchi. Ibadan. So many other lovely places ❤
Being American, I thought the Nigerian videos were very interesting and I enjoyed them all. You did a fantastic job getting quality footage and editing it. Maybe when you go back again you will relax a bit and not feel so stressed knowing that you are good at what you do. Will you at some point move to Nigeria permanently, or just continue to visit from time to time? It's good to have you back, and I look forward to more hair videos.🥰
Thank you so much!! I dont think I'lll ever live in Nigeria for more than like a year at a time, but who knows what the future holds really. Though I like the ability to go in between both places
@@SeunOkimi what I am about to say might sound judgemental but it's not ( or maybe it is, but I'm not coming from a bad place): (Sirey for the grammatical errors. My first language is portuguese) How can our African continent grow when our youth are not coming back to use their knowledge for the development of our continent? How can we fight poverty when our people choose to work for other countries making them richer and richer? I do understand that it's not easy to adjust but we have to start somewhere. Africa will beat poverty if we ( africans) work for us and not for the "white countries". My advice to you and everybody who is doing the same as you,to think about this and visualise, not your future, but your children's future in European/american countries vs in african countries developed by you (the parents). Blessings to you all!
I really enjoyed watching your Nigeria series! I experienced all kinds of emotions, so that means that you did a great job. Thank you so much for sharing. Much love and blessings 💖 💕
I *completely* understand about putting more stress on yourself, I'm one of those people who does that too! I have to UNDER-do it just to make things work for me. Like I have to build in lots of rest and down time in the day or I just get overwhelmed and can't do it. Please take care of yourself!! I understand the appreciation that you have for Nigeria too (even though I've never been). When I go back to the US I don't have to explain myself or my accent or where I'm from or why I'm here and all of that stuff.
I visited Nigeria last month and let me just say, I definitely know what you mean! I do not miss their traffic!!! It takes so long to get to places, by the time you go to 1 or 2 places, you're very tired. I had some good times learning and seeing the culture, but it's constantly "on go" there. I plan on visiting again some time next year! Enjoyed you sharing your experience 👍🏾❤😊
@@SeunOkimi Yes!! Lagos was so busy!! I never experienced anything like that. I was staying in Ibadan, but by the time my flight landed at 4pm and I had to go through all the security, plus my luggage was left in Lomé 😩 it would've taken 3 hours to get to Ibadan after I finally got out of the airport at 5:30pm. So just finding a hotel at last minute in Lagos was very exhausting!! I watched your videos before I went and it definitely put me more at ease in that situation 😌
It's taken me so very long to curb my 'perfectionism' with work, so I really felt for you 🤗❤ it can get better with time, I will share my 2 personal rules for my work that help me 1. If it's 80% good enough to my eyes then move on to the next thing and 2. I put 2 alarms on my phone to remind me to eat! You're a beautiful soul 🕊💛
So glad you got the rest you needed. My life is stressful and your videos provide an outlet for me and probably others. However, take care of yourself sis. 🙏🏽❤️
Awesome life update. Just want you to know that I appreciate all of your hard work I enjoy every video that you upload to your channel I know it definitely not easy. When you did your videos on your life in Nigeria 🇳🇬 I personally felt like I had experience what it may feel like to be home (where ancestors came from) so Thank You for that.
Seun we love you and want you to be healthy and happy no matter where you are. I loved your Nigeria videos, I am happy you made them. Don't put so much pressure on yourself, you are doing an amazing job.
I'm glad you actually came back to say this because it's like you don't feel the stress until you actually left the environment and you're like "wow! I was doing ALL that" So, I really understand you and I love that you came back to say this part... 😘😘
I’m glad you are being honest. Nigeria is a very stressful place to live. I could never live there. I’m proud to be Nigerian, and I wish I could be a Nigerian in Nigeria, but I can not…
I felt everything you said 100%. I was born in the US, raised partly in Nigeria. Moved permanently to the US in 2011. I don't look forward to going back to live there. I cringe whenever my husband says he'll like to retire in Nigeria. I'm proudly Nigerian, just not proud of the life there. The stress, the scams, the "packaging" the religious fanaticism. It's all to much for me. Thanks for sharing Seun.
I'm a Nigerian living in Nigeria and I 200% testify, everything is built to make your life harder!! I'm praying to God I get out of this place real quick.
I'm Nigerian and went home in May and let me tell you, lagos is stressful 😫. Traffic, hustling, the begging right from the airport etc. From the heat and smell of gas at the airport in arrival, the stress and extortion going through customs cos of our expired passports and subsequent extortion from every official we came across. To walking miles to the parking and dragging our luggage, my 12 yr old said mom i don't ever wanna come back. And i don't blame her
@@TUDBEE1 I think it's the Ignorant "Don't come here and tell me different" Mentality of the people. Sad to say, Everywhere Black people Are, it's the Same Awful situation, not just Nigeria.....
Please you can, most RU-vidrs visit or stay only in the Lagos part. I stay in Abuja, Nigeria and Lagos is equally stressful to anyone who has stayed in Abuja ... so I really would love if RU-vidrs are really specific like Lagos Nigeria not saying Nigeria as a whole, so everyone can understand the view point and know what to expect.
We understand you 100%, Lagos is a whole other place, it very stressful for us born and brought up here. It's more chill in some other parts like Abuja. Am happy you enjoyed your stay. love from lagos,💜🇳🇬
Seun I agree with you on enjoying both places. My visit to South Africa a few months ago, showed me that I could live there as well as here in America. You really did great videos in Nigeria. I definitely want to visit Nigeria now. Thank you so much for sharing bits of your life with us.❤❤❤❤❤
Enjoyed your Nigerian videos but I am so glad you were aware of the stress. I love all your video content! I pray you are feeling better now! God bless!
Welcome back😘😘😘. I know it was not easy But you did a great job. It's perfect in our 👀. It was great seeing our country again. Thank you for sharing. ❤️❤️
Wonderful vlogs, welcome back thanks for sharing about your birth country. I am form the west Indies t&t and I enjoy watching Nigerian movies looking forward for your future videos🙏💐
Honestly, all your videos during your time in Nigeria were great, I didn't think any thing could be improved. In fact I thought wow, I like how she's captured things. I haven't been to Nigerian for over 10 years. It was nice to see it candidly. Thanks for sharing your experiences, you're doing a great job! 👏🏾 Don't put too much pressure on yourself xx
I have very fine natural hair and I currently have box braids. Box braids have been very helpful in growing my hair out and staying healthy. I really enjoy your channel because it’s very helpful in my hair journey. Thanks 🙏 again for sharing your hair journey and I will continue to watch.
Welcome back, I hope you had a chance to practice your specific language; you look Amazing. Thanks for sharing. You did a great video series on your amazing culture from the lens of a Nigerian.
Aww Seun so glad you made it back safely. Fill us in on your final analysis of the trip when you get the chance. Hope you can relax and take it easy and try not stress so much..life is too precious especially at this stage of your life. Looking fwd to more videos 🤗🤗❤
Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. You truely have a gift. And it was really great as another Nigerian American to see from your eyes what living in Nigeria is like
Hi Seun, I love seeing your videos in Nigeria , it was so cultural and rich and it also reminds me so much of Jamaica too. One thing within this video I've never seen are the flashing clips and pictures. May you please slow them down because of sensory issues? P.S. I love your videos and they are so educational. Keep up the great work!
I love the way you fly back and forth from the motherland i can't wait to visit 😍 but first I have to go to Jamaica thats where my dad's from 🥰🥰 but after Jamaica most definitely Nigeria or Ghana I love Ghana
I missed you I was literally washing your latest videos and waiting for new content 😊 happy to hear and see that you are doing great. Keep on being you and simple, so much ❤️
Dearest Seun. I understand how hard life can be in Nigeria. Our family visited with my then husband many years ago. I was born here in UK and my immediately family are from Barbados. Life was quite hard....ie. Buying n bartering, purchasing from the markets,,,yes the heat, the overwhelming crowdiness and fast pace..I really understand how you felt..plus the electric kept going off and sometimes lack of water. I know at times filming and doing RU-vid must have been tiring. Some things like the beaches, the people, the food was fab...👍🏾
I can relate to the part you said , you didn’t feel hunger. It happens to me a lot, I don’t feel hungry at all. And I would all of a sudden remember omg I’ve not eaten. Welcome back
Missed you so much my Nigerian sister. I’m so happy to see your back safe and sound. Glad to see the breakdown of your trip and being real about your time. Probably lost your appetite cause you missed American food. 🤣 with the mixture of stress. Also I agree 💯 with you on the pronunciation of having to tell people how to say your name. My name is Aderonke and it gets frustrating at times when people really don’t know how to say it. Can’t wait for your new videos to come.
Hello Seun thank you for sharing your life in Nigeria very beautiful, blessed and amazing family..Welcome back to US. I love watching your video and I love you God bless you.❤️❤️❤️❤️
I visited Nigeria once did not Like it at all love the PEOPLE and FOOD but NOT the GOVERNMENT SYSTEM TOO MUCH CORRUPTIONS and SUPPRESSION of the PEOPLE. We love you beautiful
Nigeria is really stressful, if you don't force yourself to rest you might breakdown, especially Lagos, but you did a very good job making all these very informative videos ,God bless you.
I am a flatbed truck driver and my own boss. I know how it feels when you are constantly going and dont realize that you havent eaten for days or drink water even though you are sweating buckets😁😁but...its nice to enjoy what you do. Even though it has its stressors
Nigeria is stressful and Lagos is the real stress, I can relate with how you felt but it was good to know that you had fun in all of it and you are back to America..
My mom went to Lagos for a few weeks. when she came back , I could barely recognize her. She aged like 10 years; had shallow eyes with dark circles, wrinkled neck and weight loss…I had to take a picture
@@solarlola5953 so sorry about that m dear but it is what it is. That is Lagos for you. Even if you happen to just travel outside Lagos for few days and come back you will see a very big difference that Lagos indeed is draining..
Love you Seun, I’m so glad you’re giving yourself what you need. One of my favorite quotes is “Nature never hurries, yet everything is accomplished.” Be gentle with yourself. Whatever you want to do you will do, in due time. 🤍♥️💜
Percebi esse "estresse" principalmente quando filmava na rua, em lugares publicos (policiais mandando desligar a camera... corrupção)... Realmente outro mundo e pra uma youtuber, a Nigéria não seria um bom lugar
Thank you so much for sharing your hair care routine and tips for growth and retaining!!! I wanted to ask, do you recommend trimming regularly?? And how often is “regular”? Your hair looks amazing and healthy❤️
I moved to Uganda from Canada and I can 100% relate to this video. Especially the eating part ! I lost SO much weight, it was crazy. Just from being busy and doing things. Glad you enjoyed Nigeria though!
I'm American and husband is Nigerian so I have been to Nigeria a couple of times. It's stressful, hectic, and chaotic but it's also one of my favorite places to go. I love Lagos! It's hard to explain to Black Americans that haven't been there the feeling of being "home home"!
Am not Nigerian and have never been but one day God willing I want to visit. From what I have seen in videos, Lagos is a stressful nightmare like Mumbai India but then there are other parts of Nigeria that are more chill and really nice. I think that’s the same of many other countries around the world….
You are right, there are other places in Nigeria that has little or no stress and you will enjoy every bit of the environment all the way down to the food but there is just something about Lagos, it has his own special kind of fun and beautiful things but you just have to be ready and up to the stress. There is a popular saying about surviving in Lagos, you just have to be mad because there is no normal individual in Lagos..
I was watching your last video again mere minutes before you posted this lol. Missed you! I'm glad you had a great time in Nigeria and were able to get that sense of belonging. The U.S does have a way of making you feel like an alien if you're non-white and don't have a European name. Some choose to blend in, some to stand out, but either way, it's hard and it's nice to return to a place where you don't have to do either. Welcome back. I'm excited to see all the new content.
