We cover everything related to lifting belts - why, how, what, where, when, and what NOT to buy as well. This is the second video in our "Lifting Gear" series.
We love Best Belts (www.bestbelts.net, and this is Phil's belt), but as of January 2023, they're backlogged and aren't taking orders, so with that in mind, here are a few other high-quality belts we recommend:

No lever belts? I’m going to try and go down a size in my belt. I get bruised hips and painful ribs so will by a more narrow belt

Lever belts are great as well, but I wanted this to be geared to the first time belt buyer, and due to the cost, usually that choice ends up being a prong belt. If I were to recommend a lever belt, it would be the pioneer adjustable lever (PAL) belt. The one thing I don’t like about lever belts is - until recently - the fact that you needed a screwdriver to adjust them, so if someone’s weight fluctuated a bit (i.e., enough to want to use a different hole), it was a bit of a pain. The PAL solves that.

I hear your my first real belt was an inner forever lever, I learned relatively early on that a quarter worked for screwing/unscrewing the belt. That being said the levers break, you do have to adjust sort of regularly, so if I could do it all over again I’d just have bought a single prong 3 inch wide belt.

For deadlifts with a belt, what are some pointers to get it to work better? It seems the belt always slides up my back when getting into extension, even though I have it on tight. If I wear it up higher, I can't get a good deep breath. Does it just take getting used to? Belt feels awkward during DLs. I have a Dominion SS 3" leather belt. Thanks Phil.

Some of it is indeed getting used to the belt on the deadlift, which is usually the toughest lift on which to get used to using it. You can also try wearing it higher in back than in front (i.e., where it wants to slide anyway, but just in back). Another option is to wear it one hole looser on the deadlift than on your other lifts.

What is your work weight for the squat? Kilos or pounds are fine.

@@TestifySC my charge of the day is about 120 kg

As I mentioned in the video, putting your belt on for your last warm up set and then also wearing it for your work sets is a good approach. 90% of your work weight for a single is very reasonable for a last warm up set (and out of convenience, I would probably round 110 instead of 108), so if I were you in this circumstance, I would wear my belt at 110 kg, and then I would wear my belt for 120 kg. Over time, you’ll develop your own preferences, and if you want to start wearing your belt earlier than your last warm-up set, that is fine as well.
