@@BasementBrandon I can't recall where you're located, but I'm just curious, based on the relatively large volume of equipment you have purchased/reviewed, what shipping company seems most reliable. I live in central/south Georgia and FedEx has a really bad reputation. It's a shame, because I know and really like a particular driver that I've dealt with for almost 18 years. When a company ships UPS it usually arrives earlier than predicted and the packaging is fine. However, FedEx is literally NEVER timely. Their tracking always indicates "out for delivery", then it changes to to "delayed delivery" or some other exception and it's anyone's guess when or if you're getting it. Once they even bent a freaking 29mm power bar and destroyed one sleeve. It looked like a tank ran over it. The packaging is usually damaged, twice items were delivered to the wrong address and one package was just lost. The drivers work their asses off, so I can only assume it is a management/logistics issue. Whenever I see that it was sent FedEx I prepare for the worst. This predates COVID-19 and the supply chain issues.

@@awmlawoffice I live in the northeast (rhode island). For the bigger purchases they almost always come freight, which is more expensive, but since they're on a pallet and can't be thrown around, usually show up in great condition. For smaller orders a lot of times it's UPS. Our guy is great, although I believe he hates me b/c of the volume of stuff that comes in. He backs up right to my garage/porch and I'll usually go help him unload stuff if I catch him. I haven't had any issues with FedEx but then again not a lot of heavy stuff is shipped with them for what I get.

I don’t own any so I can’t recommend a company but at least you have some options Okay original comment here Thanks Brandon. Hi Brandon, I’ve currently got an 8.5mm belt with single suede so about the general 6.5mm of leather. If looking for a step up in thickness, would you say a 10mm single suede would provide a noticeable support increase or would a 13mm double suede be a better choice. I’m also curious as to what is your personal choice in thickness and if you feel stronger or more comfortable with particular belts. Thanks
@BasementBrandon

I like a 13mm lever. I think if you're going prong, 10mm makes more sense. A lot of this is preference however. I feel a difference going from 13 down to 10... or at least I think I do lol.

I use a 13mm Inzer lever belt for squat and a 10mm single-prong A7 (w/ 1/2" holes) for deadlift. I believe the A7 is made by Pioneer. Being able to adjust in 1/2" increments for deadlift has been a game changer for me.
@BasementBrandon
@BasementBrandon 2 года назад
Yes they make belts for a7, iron tanks, and rogue! The interesting thing is the a7 and inzer prob have roughly the same amount of leather based off construction. I'd guess the inzer feels stiffer b/c they also add a layer of harder almost cardboard leather to the belts.
@scrappylifter8318
@scrappylifter8318 2 года назад
@@BasementBrandon I didn't know that! Inzer always bruises my back and it still doesn't lay flat after a couple of years of use, but it's my go to for squat. The A7 feels like buttah! Perfect for getting into deadlift position. I also like that the buckle is black too.

I haven't had a new belt since before most of you were born, and it became time finally to buy a new belt. Those old single ply belts, while they break in, in 15 minutes, are fairly worthless. In a way, I do wish that I had purchased a 10mm belt just for the break in period, but I bought a 13mm with a suede lining layer. The why is because I overdo everything. I watched videos on how to break the belt in, and they did help. Roll that belt until it is pliable, and wear it for everything whether needed, or not.

You forgot to mention prong styles. I've owned many belts of just about every style and material and I completely agree that the 10mm double- suede is the best all-around choice. But although the double-prong is more common, in my experience the single-prong is more comfortable and easier to use. I also prefer the single-prong over lever-styles because the lever-style limits you to one size whereas the single-prong is easy and quick to adjust sizing from day-to-day or even lift-to-lift. For example I usually tighten one extra notch for heavy squats. The lever styles are a little more streamlined but their lack of easy adjustability negates any advantages in my opinion. Have not tried an SBD so my lever experience comes from the older style lever belts.

Heya Brandon, solid video. I already have a 10mm single prong full leather pioneer belt and it's serving me really well. Your thoughts on the new pal lever system from pioneer? Worth a buy?

It’s worthy he buy if you’re in to lever belts. If you already love your prong belt and don’t really see a point in switching, then keep on keeping on.

Since my name is Brandon, I’ll suppose you were asking me. I think it’s beautiful. Absolutely wonderful to have several adjustments, and to take off in just seconds and effortlessly. PAL comes at a bit of a deal on the beltinator though. Think it’s only a 30 bucks upgrade, which is 1000% worth it.

Depends. Do you have the PC prong? If so the only reason to go PAL is to get more convenient/consistent latches/fit. Personally I like how a lever feels clasped against my stomach more than I do a prong.

@@BasementBrandon Are you aware of any videos that give a similarly detailed explanation of nylon/fabric belts? I’ve found a few that speak to the relative benefits of nylon vs leather, but no details on the construction of fabric belts at the level that you provided for leather.

@@martystrasinger3801 I haven't. I'm not really aware of any special considerations for them in competition.

This was great. Now, solve my 3” vs 4” debate for one belt to rule them all.

I think this relates to height and where your ribs end and hips start. Shorter people usually prefer a 3".

This is an interesting video, albeit a bit long-winded LOL. As someone who has worked with leather for quite some time, I'd like to clarify and possibly simplify a couple of points. Vegetable tanned Saddle skirting, which can be as thick as 7mm, is essentially a cows full hide. Leather, when layered, is a lot like plywood. A multi layered item will have a stronger tensile strength when compared to anything made from a single layer. I would advise against the use of suede as an inner layer. Although suede provides a bit of grip, it doesn't add to the strength of the belt at all. In fact, its sponge like texture will soak up sweat, dead skin, and stain and stink much faster than smooth finished leather. Moisture will accelerate the decay of the leather. Suede should only be used for appearance sake. Two to three layers of vegetable tanned leather can equal the exact thickness that you would like. Leather crafters have a tool known as a splitter that can thin the leather perfectly even with the exact thickness you'd like. And essentially, you'd have a much longer lasting belt over the belt with a thinner core and suede added. As a maker, it's in my best interest for your belt to wear out, because it's additional business for me. As a consumer, all I can say is, choose wisely.

Thanks for the feedback. I think the point about layers is more some brands like Inzer, tout that they are better b/c they use a single piece of leather on their belts, which obviously is not true. In terms of suede, that's an interesting point you make that I never considered, but I find having a suede layer inside usually leads to a more comfortable belt for most.
@cockeyedcowcustomleather159
@@BasementBrandon I don't disagree with you on the comfortability of suede, however there are much better alternatives. T he most readily available in the USA, is referred to as milled vegetable tanned leather. Milled veg tan is supple and quite soft (think high end bags) and it doesn't have the negatives I mentioned of suede. One that will actually be soft yet add strength to the belt is kangaroo. Kangaroo actually has the highest tensile strength of any leather tanned. If you're going to spend a lot of time wearing your belt, you owe yourself to invest in the best materials available for the task. I don't know much about the quality level of popular brands, but it might help you and your followers to understand a bit of the terminology so you/they can ask the prospective company about their manufacturing process to ensure the best quality and make the most informed decision for such an investment.
