Lifting My Subaru Forester Part 3 - How To

I couldn't just install all of the new parts onto a rusting body. I know the Forester is solid and most of the rust build up was on the subframes and suspension parts. However, the body had some areas that were in need of attention before getting worse. A lot of people wouldn't be in this situation of trying to save an old chassis to install thousands of dollars in new parts. They would just let go of it.
This sort of work is dirty, time consuming and slightly hazardous. I've owned vehicles in much worse condition and although this is a last ditch attempt to save the body, I know it's going to last many more years after cleaning everything up. I have a good idea on what I need to keep an eye on to maintain it for the long run.
Thanks for watching! There is still some more prep work but I am at the point that parts are ready to go back on. Need to get it done soon so I can enjoy it but not killing myself either. STAY TUNED

Looking great man! Making me want to do some cleanup and undercoating on my Forester at some point.

Hang in there, dude. I can feel your frustration, but you’ve definitely set yourself a mammoth task of getting the Forester cleaned up and road worthy. So many people would’ve given up on a car like this long ago, but you have the knowledge and determination to save it. A friend of mine has a green 1997 Forester which has been sitting in his front yard, fading away in the Australian sun for several years. It’s destined for the scrap heap. If only he had the time, patience, and money to save it just as you’re doing with yours. Keep up the good work!

The work at home is not the funnest thing but I get put off doing it when I have a bad day. Lose the ambition. I’m staying on track though, it needs to get done and I need a road trip in it soon. 👍

What did you use for the rubberized coating?

I used two products. One is a rubberized undercoat. The other is a rubberized rocker guard that the wheel wells were hit with. Both are very similar but the undercoat builds twice as thick. Rust Check has a really good one. Napa has their own brand of the same stuff.
