Dark and dramatic. I love a moody photo. I feel like it tells a story and provokes a feeling of intimacy vs something that’s (to me) overpowering with light, even shooting directing into the sun in the composition with her white dress- let’s say in a sunflower field… underexpose enough to get decent color, play with contract and maybe bump the highlights down a bit and add a little whites and boom 💥. In post I’m big in editing my subject and background separately then I do final light/exposure correction in the photo as a whole. I strive for photos to be just as good as watching a video, to provoke the minds visuality to imagine what’s going on or what’s happening next in the photo.
Light & airy on the 1st and definitely dark & dramatic on the 2nd. I absolutely love both because my style is both. But I lean more towards dark and dramatic ❤️
Excellent! Dark and dramatic using a flash will always give the focus on the subject and yeilds a more finished picture. However, in absence of a flash in those candid moments, the RAW image can be selectively masked to darken the background while highighting the subject in post. I often do this in most of my photography. A bit of doging and burning can bring extra shadow dimension to the subject and attire.
This was a great video! I tend towards light and airy, but I think for her dramatic dress and pose, the dark and dramatic works better. One suggestion: put the images side by side for comparison at the end!
My general preference is the increased contrast of dark and dramatic. Also, the added light creates natural vignette that draws the viewer's attention to the subject. That said: 1st set: Dark and Dramatic 2nd set: Light and Airy
Excellent Sal, both are very good photographs, I prefer Light and Airy photography, I have to mention that flash photography requires more knowledge, thank you very much for making the teaching videos, you are a great guy.....
Image 1 Dark & Dramatic, Image 2 Light and Airy. The focus is a bit soft vs. what I normally see from your shots. Shooting conditions I suspect. I have been adding drama to my edited images over that last few years as well. Since 95% of mine are action (live vs. posed) shots, lighting in not controllable so Post Processing is the route taken. Underexposed RAW is where I usually end up so not much is lost. This was a great video. I learned quite a bit. I do have an OCF setup. Thanks for sharing. Great work by all. You did look cold too.
shit... now you made me go back and look at final images... all are sharp... no soft images here!! :) might be video compression or resolution. and thank you for watching!!
I am an being honest I would say I love both of them. I am usually the dark dramatic guy but there are aspects of both that I can put in my tool box to be used later. Loving the A2 Looking forward to using them
Woooooooooo you all outdid yourselves! Beautiful location, great simple colors, and nice use of the memory card! I love light and airy, but you gotta go with dark and moody all day here!
Dark / Dramatic is fire! Met you at Wedding MBA 2021. You were hands down the best speaker at the entire conference! Hoping to get back to WPPI and hope to see you there!
Dark and dramatic ALWAYS! Looks stellar and I love what you did with the posing. Alissa - I love your hands. I am taking some strong lessons away from this video by completing he pose. I think directing the hands and fingers has been lacking in my shots and the way you both pulled that together was great. Next year Sal I will be in Iceland with you - or wherever!!
Great job! I personally prefer dark and dramatic for this shoot! The first spot would’ve been epic if you could’ve got the model and that old Rolls-Royce on the path! Cheers
I love your dramatic photos. That's why I buy your magazines 😂 and follow your work, but this time I highly enjoyed your light and airy look. The location helped in making my decision tbh. It's nice to do different styles every once in awhile. 👍🏽
always nice to see people come here to Iceland to take pictures ;-) there is so much to see here. I see you've been to a few places. love your work ;-) . I always prefer Dark and Dramatic. so my vote goes there 🙂
While I like them both I think I will go with the dark and Dramatic. One, because it's Dramatic which I lean towards. But as well, because you need to know what your doing to create the Dark and Dramatic images. Something not all can do, which separates you from the masses.
Oh thats a tough one. Im a dark and dramatic photographer but the light and airy were really consistant. Im going to stick with the dark and dramatic only because the shots are more contrasty. Have to say, the lack of SD card made my coffee come out of my nose..lol. Thank you for that Sal.. Good stuff! Glad youre out making more inspiring vids. P.S. Where can we find an Alyssa? haaa.. Have fun brother.
I'm a fan of all your videos and work. I remember you saying that you use Aperture Priority (AP) mode, but how do you keep an image from blurring with movement? I know that I want at least 1/500 shutter speed, but in AP mode, I don't control that directly. Any suggestions? I like to keep my ISO at 100 to prevent noise. I shoot with a Nikon D7200.
ty very much!! ok... so yes. if you are trying to freeze action - you can either control ISO or Aperture. that will get shutter to where you want it. if you have a very specific shutter YOU MUST HIT... then go into manual mode. but i would say you prob dont need that - you just want to not drop below 500th. so... if you want iso 100 and shutter 500th... you only really have one choice... Aperture, right? and if you are wide open and its still too slow on the shutter... you again, only have one choice,.. ISO. make sense?
Love the dark and dramatic, but probably cos you shot it perfectly as usual. Also, I love that I am not the only one who forgets the memory card (-: (and for me taking the damn lens cap off ). (-:
yes i will let my wife/model know. :) ... how you missed the light airy... ??? it was the first shot... and we shot two light and airy and two dark and dramatic... are you sure you watched this video??? JK 😂
@@SalCincotta1 Oops, I watched it a second time filling up the entire monitor, now I can see she is a tad older than I thought, LOL the eyes man they go fast. LOL I like the Dramatic shots better :-)
Interested in that camera holster? You look like a gunslinger but with a Canon! Pun intended! Can you link the product? The old "forget the memory card", good to see we have something in common. 😀🤣
We are in Iceland at the moment and sunset doesn’t start until almost midnight. Sunrise starts at like 330-4am. It’s insane light all day. For this it was around 8pm
The problem comes along that Wescott lights aren’t wescott lights. They are a rebranded Jinbei light and trigger with a more premium price tag on it. How can you trust a brand that isn’t transparent about their products.
is that a true statement? you know this for fact? i dont know that. I know ive never heard of this company and i know i can get a hold of someone from westcott - i know they have amazing support. I know they have an incredible product eco-system. again - do you know for a fact there is nothing different in the mother board? flash tubes? triggering system? maybe you are right... i know i dont know that to be fact. so if you know something i dont... i would love to know.
@@SalCincotta1I think my reply had an error or something and didn’t post. This has been covered a lot some research online will give you the answers but it was first brought up onto RU-vid here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jLXpQi03Ksw.htmlsi=rr7gbJxXNNcBtMsv Personally I’m a Godox user so it doesn’t affect me wescott don’t have the lights I favour in their eco system. But this is a huge part of the reason I don’t own any wescott products at all. Granted their support is good i know in America support seems to be a big issue but here in the UK not so much there is 2 Godox authorised repair centres here and I had a faulty screen on an AD100 pro lately it was sent and returned all fixed within 4 days so I can’t complain about any support issues from any manufacturer in the UK.
I'm not a fan of Light and Airy, most of the time it's done very poorly and ends up just being an over exposed blown out shot. I love COLOR and DETAILS so I prefer dark and dramatic shots every time.
People with better aesthetics like dark and dramatic, and mediocre people like light and airy. That's my takeaway from more than 20 years of experience. Lol. Yes, this might sound offensive to all those people who tell me, "I like natural light", but that's the truth.
