Useful. I noticed when I setup the sky sphere there is a setting that you skipped which really helps. "Directional Light Actor", you can set this to the directional light in the scene, and then the sun height in the sky sphere matches the angle of the directional light automatically.
if anyone's having no effect when they drag a skylight, remember as he said the job of a skylight is to bounce the light around it, so try to cover your scene with geometry, or a skysphere found under 'engine contents' folder.
Hallo please help.i create a box total closed.i put my third person character inside and all are black.when press build lights and press play my character is bright and the environment is black as normally.whats wrong?
I'm not sure if it's changed to something else in later versions (currently 4.25, I realize this is a bit of an ask on a video from 2018) but I can't find bp_sky_sphere anywhere. I've installed the starter content just in case, but the actor just doesn't exist for me. Perhaps I missed something in an earlier tutorial, but any help with this would be tremendous. Thanks, great tutorial!
Thank youuuuu, I accidentally deleted my sky light and the entire scne became more depressive, I didnt know it was the skylight, lighting is really important, since thats the environment youre gonna see the entire time when testing your game, even for small ability type things
So yeah, when i remove all my light. it indeed becomes pitch black. But when i after that put in a directional light, all my textures get a bright white speckled look, in a excessive extend. Im very confused wether this is because of the Game script im making the map for or just because my meshes are messed up.
Question. So I wanted to put some string lights into a nighttime scene I'm making, but after watching this tutorial I'm assuming many of the point lights are going to get that big red X. How do work around this? You mentioned briefly light maps but I didn't know what you meant.
Hi man I have question for you. I have a game that is only in Dungeon no sky or any kind of that lighting. So my question is how developers light up scene like that? The lights cannot be only from Torches and stuff it must have something like Directional light right? Could you give me some tips about setting a scene like that? Great tutorials by the way.
I suppose everyone has gone home LOL, but anyway in case OP or other is watching, and while my lighting is 'OK', its far from perfect- I"ve done my best, using this tutorial and others, to replicate it on my end verbatim , only to see certain areas of terrain ( world comp 4 tiles only atm) with way too much light or too little likght that look amnesiac . Ideas on where to probe next to make my setup photorealisetic other than waiting for epics ray-tracing ?
Love the videos, very very useful indeed. Only thing I can ask is, can you do something to not here your mouse? movements ... it's kinda distracting lol
I copied everything exact, but when I change the bp_skysphere to -1 and then look up all I get is a bright light circle as if the sun is still up. Even if I only offset the sun, I always get a briht circle straight in the air. Anyone have any feedback?
yes indeed, when lighting built it combines them so, "If you place multiple Lightmass Importance Volumes, most of the lighting work will be done with a bounding box that contains all of them. However, Volume Lighting Samples are only placed inside the smaller volumes.", from: forums.unrealengine.com/community/general-discussion/109420-lightmass-importance-volumes , last post on page. I'm no expert on lighting, its very complex and I've seen videos where gentleman says he's spent hundreds of hours on it...not to be discouraged, its fun and brings realism, enjoy :) Hope that helps,gl Deacon
