This was SO helpful! I have a beautiful fiddle that has been loving life for about 3 years in it’s south facing corner. It has totally outgrown that spot, and the only option now is in front of a huge north facing window. While this window is north facing, it lets in an enormous amount of light but I have still been really worried about my fiddle. After watching this, I think it may actually do ok there. Here’s hoping!! Thanks for the info!

Thank you for this! As someone who’s actually allowed a snake plant to die on my watch, I need this! I’m a new fiddle parent and am determined to keep it alive and thriving. I’ve been using a grow light and find it really harsh, so I’m happy to learn from you that I don’t really need it. Yay! My plant is just to the left of a NW facing window, not directly in front of it. Light meter indicates it’s getting an average of about 1500 lumens here in early June. That should actually increase as the sun angles further north. Oh, and my fiddle baby thanks you as well!
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Год назад
That is great!! I do recommend moving the plant so it is directly in front of a window. Even when they are moved to the side or back from the window even by 1 foot, it is not enough light for them to thrive. If direct sunlight is coming in, use a sheer curtain to make it indirect so the leaves do not get burnt. Good luck and you are welcome to join our helpful fiddle leaf fig community! See you there! fiddleleaffigplant.com/community

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant Oh no! I’ll have to figure out a furniture situation to get it in front of the window so I’ll have to stick with the grow light for now. Thanks for setting me straight!

Awesome channel! I've wanted a fig for years, this info is so helpful! I''m buying a light meter as I want to put the fig in a corner with windows close to the corner, southwest & northwest, with light filtering shades. I have a tiny house with vaulted ceilings so a fig is perfect for the living room as I need a tall tree. I'll buy whatever window shades work the best for the tree. Will post a pic after I figure this out!

Great! Remember that these plants need to be sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window. In a corner there most likely isn't enough light for them to survive. Im new proud owner of a 2nd handhand fiddle fig, i found on the neighbors lawn, unfortunately its leaves drop off very easy when lightly brushed up against. What can cause this ?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Год назад
It may be underwatered if it was left without water for a long time. I would place it directly in front of and up against your brightest window and thoroughly water the plant so it drains well out the bottom drainage holes. Then wait to water again when the top inches of soil are dry. It will bounce back!

I have a beautiful 7 foot fiddle fig, Fredericka is her name. Right now she budding. I wanted to repot her, she has a long root growing out of the bottom watering hole. Should I wait until the leaves are completely out or can I repot now. thank you Claire.

Hi Eva, it sounds like your plant may be ready for the next size but if it is happy and growing I would wait. Wait until the roots are wrapping around the inner edge of the pot, that is a great time to go up to the next size. Happy Growing!

Double height SW facing windows in Northern California. Good indirect morning light (when not foggy) but the shades need to come down in the summer afternoons or the condo will overheat. Will a fiddle leaf do well in this scenario?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 6 месяцев назад
Yes! That sounds like a great spot. Just make sure it is sitting directly in front of and up against the window. Even when they are pulled back 1 foot or more it is not enough light for it to survive. If you find the summer direct rays hit the leaves, a sheer curtain can help turn that direct light to indirect light. Happy Growing!

I have a southeast facing window based on the compass app on my iPhone. I just got a fiddle leaf fig and got a plant stand but it’s slightly to short at the base Of the window seal. Is that fine? I live in a tiny apt
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Год назад
It might be ok as close to the window as possible. But, you might want to see if you can raise it up to the same height as the window.

Erica, I wholeheartedly believe if you have a spot in your home that will not support a fiddle leaf fig, but you would like to add some greenery, a faux plant is the way to go! I even have a video about this topic! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZADq731rQ_k.html A strong grow light may work for you, give it a try!

This question doesn't really belong here but I have propigated a cutting, it grew roots and I've put in soil. I put in a pot with soil 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting for it to grow a bud. How long does this usually take? I've given it 20,20.20 every week or other week
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Год назад
It can sometimes take a little while. The first month or so the plant will be focused on establishing the root system in the soil of the new pot. Then given enough light and nutrition you will see growth happen soon after. Wait another month and I am sure you will see growth!
