5 hours - impressive tenacity! Very instructional to watch the end game.

Kostya, my friend told me about this video today. Fantastic game! A very instructive lesson. many ideas/concepts were discussed - opening stage to the endgame. There were some moments in the game that required plenty of calculation, which would have been more ideal if an additional 30 min or an hour was added. But it’s what it is, and both you and your opponent did really well :) Also, I appreciate you for fighting hard until the very end and not agreeing to a draw. I’ve also had some games going past 80+ moves or 5-6 hours and like how you did in this game, I’ve managed to convert as well. I haven’t watched your videos in a long time, but you do make great videos! Greetings from Hawaii :) ----------------------- By the way, several things: 1. didn’t see the computer line d5-Ba5 2. cxd4 definitely better than Qc7 3. Qb8-Ra7-Qa8 was much better, but didn’t realize this until after Qd1! And realized Nc5 was a mistake. If Qd1 was not played I would be happy with Nc5-Qe7. Saw Qb8, but since I didn’t see Qd1, didn’t play it. 4. Qd8-Nd3 saw this idea at the very last min. There were so many things going on- Nxc8, Nxa8, Rxc8, Bxd3. Many pieces were en prise. After Nxc8, I was intending Nxc1-Nxe2, then Qxc8 probably. Missed Rb3 and other moves, but I really liked the complicated position. 5. Missed Rxc5, but thought the endgame with a pawn down would lead to a draw or a double edged position as black had a king side attack. But didn’t work after Be1-Bf1-Qa1! Very instructive! 6. Be6 also liked this as everything was hanging. And I was assuming it would lead to an opposite colored Bishop, but was surprised by going for a Knight vs Bishop. And once g4 was played, I realized the reason why. 7. Missed some endgame ideas including h4 trading the pawns, which leads to a better pawn structure for White. And obviously, missed a way to draw. Rushed quickly playing the king move instead of drawing the Bishop back after Nh5. I had hoped for white or black to play e4 not allowing white to play Ke4.

I love how you spent time on the endgame technique . This part is super undervalued in chess media.

Grueling game. Great show of tenacity and finding the best plan. I'd have never found the king wandering all that way. Excellent plan and as you showed it, it made perfect sense. Also, congratulations to your opponent for fighting like a lion and not caving easily.
