I have the Seiko sbdx001 from 2004 absolutely love it I've never serviced it and it keeps great time. Enjoy that blue marine Master it's a beauty. Don't flip it!
i really wanted the 001, but it was already discontinued and selling for crazy money. I was able to get the second generation mm300, the sbdc017....love it
azhomeboy2000 the movement is rock solid, mono block case construction only real adjustable clasp that can be adjusted while using the watch, and the loom is the best. These make it a watch that is really design with purpose, another watch like that is the Muhle SandR everything about it is for a purpose. Cheers
I have the sla021 better than my Tudor black bay 41 and omega seamaster professional eta valjous for sure and somehow I like it more than my grand seiko sbga031 just awesome watch with a lot of attention to detail almost as good as a submariner and better dial
MM300 is my dream watch. I bought some homage to scratch the itch and its exactly like you said. Not an every day watch. Its great looking and i love the blue one.... so maybe one day i buy it, but probably not very soon. Nice review, thank you.
For me, this is the only sport watch I want on my wrist at all time. Price is reasonable, obtainable, and can take a real beating. Don't let the size scare you off, because it is super comfortable; given that you have a relatively larger wrist size.
I have the SLA047 for about a month, and It's my daily friend. It keeps better time then my Sea Dweller and his friends. The Lume is like sunshine in a can!
Love my MM300. Love the black though as blue is not my thing. Wear mine on the rubber strap so maybe why I have never noticed any issues with weight when wearing it all weekend.
My daily driver is very simple Black face watch. I got a ton of very showy watches. I like this way because when I switch watches to go out and look my watch the watch seems more special when I wear my showy watches.
If you want an Oris especially the 43.5 mm or 45.5 mm models now is the time to buy. Oris has incorporated a new movement into their 2021/22 Aquis models and it looks like that will be the future size for the Aquis line. There are many great bargains on the older style movement out there so check them out.
I sold it to my friend Carlos. Do I miss it? In a way, but I had a hard time getting the right comfort on the original bracelet and didn't feel connected to it that much on the various aftermarket bracelets. I do miss my 3rd Gen Monsters much more. Should have kept those.
@@1968jpy Good to hear because wanting a Monster collection an hour ago, I bought the SBDY115 on eBay. It arrives Friday. I also bought a Super Engineer for it. Glad you love yours. I'm hoping the same response from me. Best.
Hi Jeff, do you have any suggestions for alternative bracelets for this watch? I don't mind a heavy bracelet and feel that it could balance it out a bit.
Sorry Mr McMahon if it doesn't have marine master written on the dial I just have a hard time calling it a marine master. I do love to watch though and I'm flip-flopping on whether I'm going to buy one or not so apparently I'm not too bothered by it.
Seiko has never made a watch dial that said Monster, Sumo, Samurai, Tuna, or Spork on it, but nobody has issues with using the unofficial non factory fan adopted nick names for them. 🤷
Bit chunky for an everyday and the polished finish will get some life on it which may cause you some anxiety. If you are worried about servicing, you need an eco drive pro master. This is a Nice watch but possibly not for everybody. Don’t be too hasty with the Willard 42, if it comes back clean and accurate, wear it and enjoy it.
Seiko divers tend to be bulky watches, I prefer my 051 on a NATO. So much more comfortable for a daily wear than the bracelet. Looks great on a NATO too. I know your a bracelet guy, but you should try one Jeff, they really grow on you, and make the watch head really stand out.
Wearing my MM300 on the bracelet right now. I'm loving it. I can't imagine having it on anything other than the bracelet. The weight doesn't bother me for a day. Wouldn't take it on a long vacation though.
Funny you say that as it’s a 28,880 like so many other watches. But when I had my sbdx017 with the same movement I’d swear the sweep was smoother than any other watch I’ve owned (including modern Rolex and omega) Think I need to buy this version
We agree on it being no bueno as an every day'r. It's almost like the size of the MM300 is a small wee compensator. Not judging you, McMahon. Just saying. 😁😘 ❤❤
I personally don’t think it’s heavy or even ostentatious and I have a 6.5” wrist. I do agree about certain watches having that “look at me” feeling. I’ve bought and sold 4 Rolex subs just for that reason alone. I love the Sub but I don’t like wearing it.
That is a beautiful watch but if it really is twenty-six hundred than that's just too much for me as far as Seikos are concerned. I'd probably be happier getting a Hydroconquest for that kind of money. But dang it sure looks nice. I think I kinda love it. Do you love it?
Within a month, I can already feel the growth on my left wrist. Not many people just up and carry half a pound ALL DAY LONG. I have a tiny wrist, but now have to open the ratchet one click, where as it used to be fully closed.
@@JeffreyMcMahon wow really? I ordered the blue dial save the ocean version. And I ordered one from longisland watch. I love they have 20mm lugs🔥so good for my strap collection. I’m a big fan. I might also order the new all black Ninja monster. It looks so good. Have you seen these?
You say the MM300 is an ostentatious watch, McMahon, but you know deep down that it’s the watch you were yearning for. You were tired of watered down and nerfed Seiko divers that were made to feel inferior, and you wanted the full, unadulterated experience. Same goes with that Tudor Black Bay; it was a watch that was always in the Submariner’s shadow, never made to be the best it could have been. You liked the full experience of the Tuna, but you wanted an automatic, so the MM300 grants your wish. The Omega Planet Ocean and the Rolex Sea Dweller do the same thing the MM300 does. No need for an MM200 or another derivative model when you have the full monty on your wrist. This might be the time for you to ruminate over which of your other watches you would like to be the MM300’s companion. Perhaps the Daddy Willard, or maybe the Baby Willard? Or what about that Citizen solar quartz diver you bought? No pressure, McMahon, but now that you own the MM300, consolidating and synergizing your collection may the next step for you to take.
i drug an sbdx017 around disney world for 3 days about 15-16hrs per. i loved it but it absolutely took something out of me. which is why i no longer own it.
Didn't you have a Marine Master back in the day? Just checked the Ebay. The SBDX017 (Gen 2) MM300 are still available. $2800 new. $2300 pre-owned. These things hold their value. As far as servicing one, I think they have to go back to Japan.
McMahon beautiful watch but forget about the Planet Ocean. I think the Seamaster 300 diver (especially on the rubber strap with the new deployment clasp) is calling your name.
Damnit McMahon, I've been seriously looking at the the black dial version of this watch, searching reviews, studying articles, dreaming, and obsessing. Finally I get to the point where tell myself, no, stop this journey, stop the madness and get the watch that almost fulfills the dream of a MM300; and just get the MM200. The MM200 looks similar to the MM30, has sapphire, ceramic bezel, a good movement, and is thinner and more wearable day in and day out. But NOooo. You have to come along out of left field with your fancy wordsmithing about the MM300 and bring more chaos and confusion to my already jumbled up brain. Now I have to start from scratch again, you psycho!
The variety of MM200s are more affordable, easier to wear every day, and less stressful to deal with overall, but the MM300 is more dramatic on the wrist and has a more accurate movement. All we can do is weigh the pros and cons, but I agree no watch decision is ever easy.
Having quartz is poingent, like having a terminal pet. You just do not know when the last tick will happen. I live in small town eastern WA. No real jewelers out here.
@@m2pozad 9F has a service interval of 50 years... the battery, however, is easier to change because it sits outside the delicate module which is sealed. A half competent amateur can change the battery on a 9F,, but if you do this make sure you use quality tools. There are plenty of competent watch makers on line that can do a battery change and a pressure check. If you really are in the sticks then I would get a 9F... if reliability is the issue then get a digital g shock with solar...
Man longines or Oris hhh is nothing compared to a marinemaster you either new to watches or only follow Swiss crap, seiko makes better watches than most Swiss considering grand seiko and high end seikos and this one is way way better than an omega seamaster let alone a cheap selitta or ugly longines. Grand seiko movement best lume in business zuratsu polish hand assembled beautiful dial and on and on, for this quality a Swiss will cost 2.5 times the money.
For god’s sake don’t compare a measly watch to car this is stupid as it gets, watch is just a damn accessory being high end or seiko 5. Seiko below 1k are work horses for sure but once you get to high end seiko there is no denying their quality is better than similarly priced Swiss by a mile. Main seiko gripe is bracelet and thickness but an SLA039 which I own is a beauty, now if you don’t experience that don’t judge others by your old bland archaic opinions. My high end seikos and moderately priced grand seikos are hand made real in house movements and zuratsu polishing now take this to the bank and please moot it with Swiss crap, it’s getting old.
True, but with a hand assembled Grand Seiko movement and a monocoque case. This Seiko much finer than any Rolex, which are made by robots. I know because I owned a Rolex Sea Dweller for years. Overall case and dial hands, finishing much much better than the brands you mentioned, IMO.
