Training your eyes to see these lines and think this way is one of the most important skills to improve overall speed on trail. Many riders mindlessly follow the main line, which is completely normal at first, but once you train your brain to get out of that mode your trail speed and run times will improve greatly. Spend time looking for these lines!

Aaron, thanks for another great video. I think it should be mentioned that widening of the trail is frowned upon at a lot of trail systems. There is a difference between winning races and riding your local trails for fun. Riders are encouraged to volunteer at their local trails to help repair trail damage and to get to know how trails are built and maintained.

Awesome points to keep in mind! Ironically, this is the spot where we we're maintaining the trail a few seasons ago and you came out the corner and scared the dirt off of us 🤣

Great explanation but the second section raises the question what exactly is still part of the trail. If you are racing it’s simple, anything between the tape but in this case you could argue that bank isn’t meant to be ridden and doing so leads to a wide, straight motorway down the hill. I do lots of building and maintenance at the local trails and we deliberately block the insides of corners like this.
