How cool is it that your video is still here 14 yrs later? I'm getting an X3 to work with my analog pedals and amps. Thanks for all your time to record this.
Glenn...you are THE MAN! I'm not even a guitarist, and your videos have been a great help to me as a recording engineer. A wealth of information. Keep it up bro!
Greetings Glenn, Your videos and open sources to all of your Line X3 Live settings has been very inspiring to a beginner user of this pedal. I want to say thank you and I really appreciate your great work. For a user from Taiwan, your videos are undoubtedly life saver and awesome learning materials. Thank you.
Glen, thanks for doin' these vids for the X3 live. I've been struggling along w/ an XT live for 3+ years and have had a new x3 live sitting in the basement untouched for about a year. Finally, some help getting this thing sounding decent. Thx again.
I am so glad I watched this video. My Yamaha DG stomp preamp effects pedal just expired. The display started showing no numbers just LED minus signs. Then the screen went blank, then I went over to turn it off, and it was actually too hot to hold. I put a meter to it, and the power supply is putting out the correct voltage, there’s no internal fuse that I could find, it just went dead so I’m looking for a replacement, but this thing looks more complicated than my Roland GR one guitar synthesizer that I had for over 20 years and never figured out how to use everything it does. This unit in this video looks just as complicated as the Roland GR one synthesizer. It looks like I would have to take an evening course at the local community college to learn how to use this thing Thanks for the demo showing just how complex it is
Thanks a lot for this video, brother. I'm picking one of these up soon and this cleared a ton of questions. I'll be sure to refer to you if/when I have questions about it.
I just purchased a Line 6 x3 live and I have to say that so far I prefer the V-amp pro for sounds.Having said that i havent had the X3 for more than two days yet so I will try to program the X3 with some really good sounds so stay tuned.I will post on you tube the two different modelers so everyone can hear the difference.
Thank you Extremevideopro for making this!, I've had some issues getting good tones, and i'm definately dialing these tones in tomorrow. Now I'll watch the second part :) Hope you make more of these videos in the future. Cheers!
Thanks for the video! This finally got me heading in the right direction with my X3 Live. I was beginning to think maybe I wasn't smart enough to program and use it. :-)
The 4-cable method goes like this if i recall: Cable 1: Guitar into effect's guitar-in Cable 2: Effect's loop-out into amp's guitar-in Cable 3: Amp's loop-out into effect's loop-in Cable 4: Effect's out into amp's loop-in What this does is to put the amp's pre-amp circuit (colouration and overdrive) into the effect's loop. At the same time, put the remaining effects behind this loop (on the effects train) in the amp's loop (which sits before the post-amp, but after the pre-amp). There u go
Hey Glenn, thanks for the video. Really helped starting out using the X3 Live. Oh...and the background music was inconsequential to my success! LOL Thanks again, Mark
Ha! Another super useful video for this pedal! Thanks again! Damn you are seriously an incredible player, nice to see such a smooth style using a thumb pick sir! ;)
this has to be one of the most epic effect boards ive ever used, mate lent me his for a gig i had lastnight, the clean sound though was far to trebly for my liking even when i had the guitar on the rhythm pick up with more bass then treble still did sound quite trebly :S but the lead and metal tones you can get on this is truly 1 word to describe, Orgasmic. didnt want to stop playing the tone was just soo amazing xD
If you press the Home Button a second time, it shows the Patch Number over the whole display instead of the FX-Chain, which you really can't see, if you are standing; so you know what tone you're at :D
hi Randy . Hold the "home" button for two seconds, then highlight "reset user presets" navigating with the 4-way arrow key. Press save, then hold the save button for five seconds and release. Be aware that this will replace ALL user presets back to factory settings, so please back up your custom presets using Gearbox or Monkey if you want to save them for future use.
@extremevideopro Thanks! I am checking it out! I am trying to decide between the X3 Live or Bean version for my home recording and the lack of level control on the bean for input/output scares me! -thanks!
@extremevideopro Thanks bro. My guitar's and basses are all medium output passive pickups with the exceptioon of the stock ceramic pickups in my 1994 CE22 which has a 19K bridge pickup. Doesn't feel as hot as it sounds though!
This video exemplifies why I sold my Vetta 2- Too much tweaking to get the perfect tone. In the time it took to watch the tweaks in this video, I learned two new songs and had a sandwich. After you own a line 6 product for a year or more, I'll guarantee you'll get tired of trying to tame it, like not being able to dial out the excessive picking noise or the high end fizz on the high gain patches.
@extremevideopro I tell people that all the time...I view them as another form of EQ...hence I find the right cab sim will work through any cabinet...regardless of speakers. I just pick the right cab sim for my cab, etc. :)
I think i must be missing something because i cant see anything about these switches. These are the dials under where it says POD X3 LIVE and are marked Drive, Bass, Mid, Treb, Pres, Verb, Tone Volume and Master Volume
Hi Glenn, Nice demos you've posted here on you tube, I'm impressed with this unit & considering of purchasing this unit, My question is,,, does this unit come with harmonizing effects? Thanks again & keep up the excellent demos.
@extremevideopro It is, man, I think there's a problem with eiher the amp or the guitar, because I took the X3 Live to Guitar Center to see if there was a problem with it, and in one of their amps, using one of their guitars it sounded really great, but here in my amp and my guitar it doesn't sound good, but I don't see what could be the problem, because when I play just using the amp and the guitar, withouth the pedal it sounds good
awesome tone and play dude!!! one question tho.......have u ever used the custom 22/24 (ten top is an option) and if u did wat would be the difference?
Glenn, have you ever worked with Zoom's g9.2tt processor? I've test driven boss gt-10, all of line 6, tc nova system, and zoom. And, the zoom really connected with me the best.
I was about to take a pee when I heard the opening clean tone.. wow! What's that progression? I know it's simple but still hoping you can post a chord:D please thanks! Great upload and tips by the way.
another question Glenn, stupid of me not to ask this before, but what chords / chord progression are you playing on the clean part? cuz I really like it ! :-) -Luc
hey for those who use pod x3 live with line 6 spider 3 212 and are struggling to make it sound cool ive made this great patch for rythm sound its not gain abused and it sounds great for alternative/progressive metal it just kilss with double bass drum!!! if you want i can give you the settings just send me a message or comment
Hello there, very good video...I just want to ask about the overall quality if you record a track on the pc...I mean if you use the USB and just connect it to the pc and record with Cubase/Audition, the sound is very good or is just a pale version of what you actually play? I need to record lots of heavy riffs ( Tool like ), so I need that the distorted sound is not just a mess when recorded...what you can tell me about that?
Nice one, this is REALLY good. One question i have though is what settings do you use on the big silver dials on the X3L? Seems to make quite a bit of difference to the tone changing these.
I just bought one of these. I noticed you turned AMP and CAB off to get it to sound good thru your amp. I'm going to be playing thru a PA and using an amp for on stage monitor (amp not miked). Wouldn't I need AMP and CAB for the PA?
You've dialed in some nice tones, I think I'm gonna have to send my v-amp pro out to pasture and pick this up. Have you experimented with a stereo poweramp setup with the X3 live?
Glen, That PRS is gorgeous. Do you ever put any of your tones on L6 Custom Tone? I have a XTL that is still a blank canvas. I know it holds different tonal processing properties than the X3L but would love to get some of your tones or at least try to come close. Any ideas for a XTL? Thanks.
@blksolo Sound like it can't be cabled correctly? I could be wrong though I'm sure i've had this problem before on a completely different unit. Anyway. I want that PRS,i'm coming to get it!
Is there a pedalboard mode in the X3 Live? Like can you use each A B C D button to turn an effect on or off and function as some sort of a pedal (like an HD500x does) ?
lol nevermind then! I had no clue, makes me think I must of missed the first part of this video...sorry man, but hey, thanks for the response, *flame fingers*
Great Stuff! Does that small display on the X3 Live seem to be difficult to know what bank/patch your on. Seems like when you're standing up and the pedal is on the floor, seeing what bank/patch on would be nearly impossible. GREAT VIDS! THANK YOU!!!
Hello extremevideopro nice sound!!! i'm thinking of buying a line 6 pod x3 live but i'm wondering if the pedal works fine only with a power amp marshall el 30 50/50 or if i also need to buy a pre amp. Greetings.
So what kinda settings do you suggest on the actual amp? did you, before making this video change the output setting from Match studio direct to Combo Amp?
thanks i might just have to get a peavey windsor then to run the POD x3 through cause it has a good clean sound and it is a tube amp. do you think that would be a smart buy?
hey man sweet videos and playing, i had a couple questions, i rented the PODxt live for a week and liked it and had fun with download able patches and the pedal sounds way more real and tube like than my Boss me-20. I was wondering the differences between this and the GT-10 were and the differences between the xt live and the x3 live (other than prices :) , thanks in advance, Taylor
hey glenn first of all i just wanna say your an amazing guitar player and inspire me and a bunch of other people im sure. but i gotta ask a simple question. im playing thru the effects return on a b-52 tube amp. would u reccomend the boss gt-10 or the pod x3. for live shows, practice. etc. thanks
Hi sir, today I bought your X3 live Patches. As shown in line6 RU-vid channel it’s simple select drag and drop the preset on any bank using gear box. I have done all the pre work regarding drivers and firmware upgradation everything is up to date. My question is for tone 2 what do I need to do after I put all the patches in tone 1 in order?
Regarding your signal chain, what are your settings on your Crate amplifier (Main amp input). I personally also use the clear channel of my combo, setting it to a "neutral position", as recommended by line6 : Treble&Bass to the maximum, and the Mid to the minimum. Do you have any tip ?
@extremevideopro But are they necessary? The X3Live has 1/4" stereo outs with an Amp/Line pad switch. The Bean lacks this but I guess with the 1/4" balanced outs, it may not be necessary. Looks like for recording with the bean the 1/4"s should be fine. With the Live you have the option. The Live has the 1/4" input with Normal/Pad switch! The bean version does not! Is this an issue for recording?
hey man its very apreciable....m a guitarist i play basicaly progresive metal as well as clean and some sounds those are not like the traditional guitars do in studios and live ....i am confused in choosing the GT10 or POd X3 LIVE which du u prefer tone wise and dinamic wise??i saw GT10 has lots of features and sounds than PODx3 ...so which one do u prefer??? please reply
You seem to get some really nice tone with the pod and i have been trying for ages to get a slash guns n roses type sound and just cant do it, do you have any tips?
Thanks for the quick response. I don't have a manual so I'm not sure how to set Tone 2 for guitar. Can you explain or do you have a video that goes over these basic settings? Thanks for your time.
ok one stupid question.. This pedalboard is just the control switch for the red POD thing or it has all this on it (so you don;t need the red POD)? The reason i ask is cause i'm really intrested on that model and a friend in the past got confused and bought just the control of the red POD and then he had to buy the red POD too..
It is possible to control with the wha/volume pedal the pitch shifter? I saw that this effect is available, but I haven't see anyone dealing with that, so is possible to use it like Tom Morello/raga against the machine-style? Another quick question: is possible to use the octave to emulate lower tones, like 7strings giutar? I saw that the zoomG9.2tt has this function, do you know if is possible to do that with the X3? Thanks!
I have a fender FM212DSP and I was just wondering if it would work fine with this kind of multi-effects amp or even a fender 'blues junior' which I also have but hesitate using any pedals and effects with it because it just sounds great as is. Comment, criticize please!! Thanks!
hey i play for a worship team and we play hillsong, delirious, and planetshakers ETC... now that you know what kind of music we play would the line 6 floor pod plus be good for me. not the pedal you are using
Thank again for the amazing demo. You have mentioned that you prefer using the amp input instead of FX loop (i think it is what they call 4 cable method) Can you tell more about why? What are the cons and pros for both method? IF you could also make demo of applying 4 cable method with X3 live that would be splendid :)
Hi glenn. I checked out all your great video. And I has been very helpful. Just a quick question. When I run pod x3 to an amp, I just Connect the direct out to the input of the amp. Just want to know what setting I should have for my amp in the first place. Do I turn the volume of my amp up and use the pod as the main volume or the other way around? Thanks!
Hey, Glenn. I have a quick question. If you have four different sounds in the A, B, C, and D channels, do you need to have them on the same bank #? (in your case #26)
Awesome. Thanks for the quick reply! One last question, if i put it into my amp, do i just turn the amp on default clean and then use the guitar for various distortions, effects etc?
ok, if u were to compare this line 6 multi effects processor to other big name processors like boss gt10 and tc eletronic g-system how would the line 6 stack up? some people have told me more guitar players gravitate toward the line 6 over the boss gt10 why do u think that is?
