• HOW TO DEEP CLEAN DREA...
Ok, so the sight of anything alien, such as grey fluff in a lock is going to pretty scary, but rest assured it's nothing life threatening. I talk about how to spot lint problems forming, why the form and how to avoid them.

I'm 20 years loc'd. And the best way to get lint out of your hair is to wash your hair more and use less products in between washes. This will allow you to remove the lint safely without destroying a thread with tweezers.

Had a problem recently with my holiday sweaters. I had my dreadlocks down and they messed up my sweater, and also collected a ton of red lint. It was a disaster, but thanks for helping me fix it!

Then in future you might want to do more squeezing when you're doing the drying. I twist and squeeze as much water as I possibly can out of the locks. Then I shake them about to get even more out before I even start the hair dryer. If they're still a little damp by the time I need to sleep, I'll sleep with the dreads hanging over the side of the bed so they're airing out rather than getting slept on.

When I first started I had no idea what I was doing. When I wash my hair I alternate between hot and cold. Soak with hot then turn to cold while squeezing the water through my hair, once the water that I'm squeezing through turns from hot to cold, I know I've squeezed it all the way through and I swap it back to hot.

I've had my dreads for 10 months but I've just taken 12 out as I panicked and thought I had mould :( I only have this problem an inch or so at my roots, the worst being at the nape of my neck so I'm guessing it's from the clothes I'm wearing and not rinsing properly from the beginning. Could be from my cotton bedding too, though it's not the same colour? I'm looking at getting a sleep cap but it might be too hot and/or too tight. Don't know if someone could recommend one? I deep clean once a month but this leaves it very dry. I also suffer from seborrheic dermatitis and the only thing that helps is over the counter shampoo but I use a non residue shampoo in between. It was hell trying to brush that stuff out, very painful and taking a lot of hair with it too so I think what I have left in my others is there to stay.

Not sure if anyone else said this but where I'm from (in the US) lint is something often found on clothes or in pockets (or belly buttons...gross lol) and dust is something found more so in the air or under your couch (yay dust bunnies!!)

dealing with this now... had a problem with not washing enough + drying it seems. Only washed every third day or so... Dreads did not form properly and were rounder at the tips and thin at the roots. There would also usually be a lot of lint, causing a weak point. Also tie my hair back, which may have affected the sides... have to re twist them....

Please revisit this in a new video. Your recent stuff has been super high quality compared to these old ones. Thanks in advance. By the way, I am almost two years into my journey and my wife just noticed that there is quite a lot of grey fluff in one of my locs. I will be buying a satin sheet set and pillow case as preventative measures. However I work in very cold conditions and I must wear a warm head covering. Is there a product I can buy to prevent any further fluff buildup? (In particular head coverings and scarves that won't leave lint/fluff)

Deep clean the dreadlocks, possibly a few times if the problem is particularly bad. This will get rid of anything else that's inside the lock for the dust to stick to and then the dust will wash out more easily. If he gets it frequently he should consider looking into whether he has a residue problem.

Oh I don't do anything, but I think the lighting for the video also helps - it's very bright in the room.

Can you talk about bumps and lumps? I want to know if is necessary crocheting them or they disappear through the time?

It's so fun to get a reply, thanks. Curious what you know about doing black tea soak on locks...I thought I was drying my hair enough before going to bed...but I was using a hair dryer and it turns out the outside was getting dry but the core was still somewhat damp...so yah, my dreads are a little stinky when they are wet. Any suggestions? It's kinda embarrassing. :[

Thank you for this video, I need to pass it on to a friend. He's also wanting dreads but works in a mill (we live in a knitwear town) so there's fluff flying all over the place and I was worrying about him getting stuff stuck in his locks while at work.

Dude I instictually started wrapping my starter locks in t-shirts when I slept. Tying it up by the sleeves haha. They are about 4-5 months old now, but only the top of my head, the lower half is still straight yet wild lol. I started them with the twist and rip method, letting them take their natural course with some maintenance.

Question:how would i congo some of my dreads . I do not want anything to do with interlocking
@LazyDreads
@LazyDreads 11 лет назад
Aha, thank you for the clarification, makes sense - I guess I wouldn't have called bits of clothing dust, not sure what I would have called it though. Bits of towel I definitely would have just called fluff!

When I was a kid I didn't even own a hair dryer, I'd go to bed with damp locks and they'd still be damp midday the following day. Needless to say they didn't smell all that pleasant while they were wet. I'll cover this stuff in the dread-rot video... which sounds a lot scarier than it is. Basically you want to deep clean the locks a few times. Throw some teatree oil in there too. Then rinse with apple cider vinegar. Doing this should help kill off the nastiness.

You have to be careful with a shamwow, it can suck up all the moisture from it's surroundings and before you know it you're living in the desert.

Hello i was wonder if you could watch my video and tell me what you thought of my dreads there my second set i know my hairs short but im going to just let them go like this no matinees all natural i used the wool rubing method but since there like NO info on this method im just kind of guessing on what to do

It might have been. I have very little control over the volume as I'm not very high-tech on the recording front. Phone propped on a chair+book with a mirror behind it then into windows movie maker, the video programme from hell. But all the videos should be pretty much equally primitive.

Thank you so much! Glad to hear that you have had that trouble too and I see your dreads are obviously fine now :] Relieving! Been reading some scary stuff about how I could have to cut them off...no good! So i'll do the stuff you recommended and all will be fine. Ok, well have a awesome day! (or whatever time of day it is where you are, I'm not sure)

I have a huge lint problem. I already did your super deep clean and i think i got rid of most of the residue (i am using head and shoulders) but the lint is still in my dreads because they are really tight and hard and the lint is felted into my dreads, like...solid... what can i do about that? picking it all out with a croche hook would take forever and it would also destroy my dreads

Stop using Head & Shoulders shampoo, deep clean them semi-regularly and wait for it to wash out.

I'm 6 months into natural dreads and im always pulling dead knotted hair out of the sections, but its starting to get quite hard since the knots are getting tighter, what can i do about this?
@LazyDreads
@LazyDreads 10 лет назад
Hi Alex, I'm not entirely sure what it is that you're doing - are you trying to break the hairs that are connecting dreadlocks together or...?
@Fedacheesy
@Fedacheesy 10 лет назад
Lazy Dreads Nah,if I pinch the tips of the dreads and pull on them I end up pulling out dead hair that was knotted in the section

dust is like dirt, really really fine dirt. Stuff that lands on books and stuff. Lint is stuff that comes off clothes, like the little balls of stuff. Great video btw ;]

Leave the dreads that you want to congo alone. Don't split them and definitely don't go near them with a crochet hook. I already have a video all about congos as well as one about dreads growing together at the root.

Lint has LITERALLY (I KID you not), after 1.5 years with dreads) has begun to RIP APART my dreads… it's SO frustrating… I've had to remove so many dreads that my head is now patchy. It's embarrassing. It's awful. (but I guess that just begs and encourages more humility and patience:) warning y'all: RINSE THOROUGHLY!!! I am almost positive that not rinsing properly early on is what caused the issues I've encountered recently.
@LazyDreads
@LazyDreads 11 лет назад
Your hair is sectioning fine but it's going to take a while and the locks will be thin because of how short your hair is. There's no information on the wool rubbing method as a method... because it's not a method in itself, it does the same as salt water spray or lemon juice, it makes the hair more frizzy. So you can wool rub backcombed locks or wool rub t&r locks or in your case wool rub neglect locks.

Just to clarify, lint is the stuff you find in your pockets, such as cotton fibers. Dust is just about everything, so yeah. I'm sure you found out by now. Sorry to be a smartass :P
