@Ev I agree that someone can improve themselves and talk about past mistakes. But the group think of the internet would absolutely destroy someone over casually talking about how they used to shamelessly throw out hard-R N-words.

Luke just saved Linus' life, his empire, his legacy, lukes own job and the job of every single employee at LTT with one question. God fuckin bless man.
@@OldSchoolDudeGaming if by cancel culture you mean "consequences for saying the nword" then sure I guess the consequences of his actions would be detrimental!
For a pointless conversation. Yeah, people say retarded. Why make it this rant where you're censoring yourself? Canadian logic, trying to signal virtues to others while unintentionally being racist.
There needs to be a software that delays the stream by like 10 seconds, and gives a window for the streamer to hit a button which blacks out the screen and audio. News agencies do this to try and stop gruesome footage from going live.
@@henryordishit definitely could have been, I guarantee Linus of all people has one at the ready. I feel like the fact he didn’t black out the stream speaks volumes to how he didn’t even realize how what he said sounded.
An entire action movie in 2 minutes. Everyone in that room collectively lost their shit, saying their goodbyes preemptively, and collapsed in relief. What a joyride it must've been.
Do people really do that? I see people not wanting to be canceled because companies cancel sponsorships. What I don't understand is why they cancel sponsor to appease vocal minorities that might not even buy their products. I understand not wanting ti associate yourself with hate speech, racism and such, but most of the time the canceling is over something so minor or out of context I'm just amazed they continue doing that. Or companies trying to do games and series target at those vocal minority and the product flops. It's like they want to actually lose money just to make a point.
@@jonathankitchen2202 yes, in the case of the video, if it was the n word he used to say, it would be bad, even if it was more common in the past, it shows racist tendencies of the person using it. What I was saying was that context matters and even if they slipped a bad word regarding gays on an online game (a place where rage takes place), people just assume you are this monster for saying something once (most of the time others showing your line without context) and don't give you time to explain yourself.
I missed this. This spotlight was stressful .I couldnt remember it. I never took it this way - but my wavelength was along with Linus. So hearing you lead the perception really shows how easy misinformation can spread when in the absence of Luke.
Luke genuinely just saved the entire LTT brand, if Luke didn't ask Linus to clarify what he meant right there in the moment literally no one would have believed that excuse.
Facts tho if they didn't clarify it during the show and waited till after the damage would have already been done. I can already see how some people will just see the one segment and not the entire clip. Hopefully he doesn't get too much hate for it.

@@vault6242 hard R refers to when someone pronounces it with emphasis on the R at the end, which comes off wayyyy more aggressive and hateful than how a black person would say it casually as if it ended in an A.

The scary thing is, had Luke not raised the question in that moment, any clarification coming from them after the blacklash would have felt like disingenuous PR jargon
I was thinking the same at first. But the fact that he mentioned older shows and specifically American Dad would have saved him in the eyes of anyone with a brain capable of realising that early 2000s shows did not in fact use the hard R casually.
shouldn't even be a big deal, no word was actually said and even if it was said, it's a word. Our generation needs to grow up. Literally if it was such a huge deal for people to say "hard R" then it should be illegal for everyone. No more rappers using it, black people can not use it. So RETARDED.

I also had no idea the hard-r actually meant that. I did always wonder why some people called it that instead of just the r-word. Now I know, and it only took Linus nearly destroying his entire career to find out. Thanks Linus!
what linus means was not that word apparently, he used the old mocking words and it was popular back in 9gag meme era back in 2010, what he meant "hurr durr" which used to mock people for being/saying idiotic things. it sounds similar actually, that's why people shocked
@@prohanta9360 im pretty certain linus was just referring to the r-word. hurr-durr is definitely not really known anymore, only people that i know who use it are usually in their late 20s or 30s lol. but since linus was talking about shows from the early 2000s, im sure he meant the r-word in the way of derogatory term for intellectually disabled people.

I mean Linus is right, Humour from the old 2000´s was way better since it wasn´t woke whatsoever, Take for example "Air Afrikaans" A old south african comedy where they made jokes of black people, vegeterians, karens and terrorists, Today this would not be accepted and instead be cancelled, So i dont see why he would need to make a apology
for real, this shit was a nexus level event and we live in the timeline where linus's company DOESN'T implode over the "hard R" incident, just a few words different and we'd be in that timeline
I can't believe we live in a universe where Linus has said the words "I dropped my fair share of hard Rs". Luke had to do a hard reset on his brain after hearing that
Bro I laughed my ass off at Lukez visible concern while trying to figure exactly what the fuck he was talking about, followed by a complete mental reboot after the "I dropped my fair share of hard R". Whole thing was hilarious
I don't get what the big deal is. All he said was that times have changed. Like, just kind of an obvious thing to say. Not sure how it's offenseive. He's right, people used to say retard and gay right and left.

Nah it would have been fine. It was pretty obvious from the way he was talking that he wasn't referring to the n word. Basically all the points charlie made that the n word was not in casual use on tv in the 2000s and the word he's actually talking about starts with r.
