I find it so funny imagining a whole team of highly sophisticated and intelligent people at TikTok's HQ coming up with every possible response to intricate cyber security questions just to be hit with "Does TikTok access WiFi?"
It made me so mad because they didnt let bro respond. like unless he was about to say "yes tiktok hates children and supports genocide" they arent going to let him talk.
They were determining his allegiance via hard questions. If they got his opinion on the Uyghurs, thats a clear indicator. Obviously he didnt answer cause then us or china would immediatly smack the shit out of him tho
@@Aiophgy Disney and most of Hollywood bows to China in every movie they make by removing anything critical to Chinese rule, does this mean they're loyal to China?
The biggest issue with these congresspeople is they don't actually want to seriously evaluate TikTok as a threat or pass legislation to improve national security. They want to LOOK hard on TikTok and the CCP while cameras are pointed at them so then they can play those clips and go "ohh look how hard I was on TikTok now vote for me" come election time. That's also the reason why they keep bizarrely asking about the CEO's nationality or whether he himself believes in Uyghur human rights abuses- that way they can argue that they're so hard on China (when in reality that has nothing to do with TikTok). Their minds were already made up on TikTok before the CEO said a word, and they just want to use the briefing to convince ignorant people to vote for them during elections.
Yea he was also sweating bullets because they started bringing up other Chinese CEOs and realized he has a very good chance of either being told he’s not allowed to run Tik Tok anymore or just getting killed
Imagine the CEO at home mentally preparing himself to be hammered and answer difficult questions to be bombarded with pure stupidity and arrogance. Was probably thinking to himself why did I waste my time preparing anything
Him getting ready to answer how tiktok uses the algorithm to suggest videos that would appeal to the viewer 2 days later in a congressional hearing : "Does TikTok use WiFi?
@@Rdg-bg9vr nope, taking about dude mentioning stupidity and arrogance yet having no idea that the ceo is obviously playing dumb to avoid any serious repercussions knowing full and well that the CCP can take any data they want from tiktok
No, he built up to asking if TikTok accesses other devices on the same WiFi network. How the fuck could so many people not comprehend the question is mind boggling.
One of the worst parts was when some guy started saying something like "To all the teenagers who think we're ignorant about technology, we aren't". They really aren't aware at all how little they know.
Representative of Texas and he talked about the China communist party being able in the future to get data from tiktok since they own the parent company. Brought up how there is already leaked data from america to China then brought up that quote referring to the protection of children’s user data. How america could potentially lose internally due to data targeting. Although he also didn’t let the ceo speak 😂 and cut him off most times when he was trying to. He also kept inferring the tik tok ceo was Chinese 😅 I think at one point he or someone mentioned why is it called project texas when the company the ceo was working with was based in texas LMFAO
What he was trying to imply is that they will use their data to promote the whole CCP narrative. Misleading everyone into de-vilify the communist party. And it's been working. A lot of young Americans are unaware of the evil regime. There's a huge divide going on in your country because of that. Soon I won't even be able to use RU-vid here in Hong Kong to comment this..
that one guy started off so strong. he seemed genuine, he used terminology that at least made him appear somewhat intelligent, he is clearly a very formal individual in a respectable position. only to ask if tiktok connects to the fucking wi-fi
she attempted to establish that 2 different companies from china who should be unrelated have deep connections on the back end and if they freely share information they collect between each other without profit motive. (this eludes to the CCP being the connecting factor) It is just really hard to do when the person you are asking yes or no questions wont answer with either of those and just rambles about other things.
@@MinecraftGod69420 It doesn't. We're literally teetering on the edge of a civil war and an absolute economic collapse. You know some lawmakers are proposing to bring back lynching? Lynching, like hanging people from tree lynching. And when you consider all the SHIT lawmakers have been passing lately with absolutely no public voting, it'll probably fucking happen!
Her just talking over him and basically answering her own questions on his behalf makes me want to throw my phone across the room. Not only is it downright rude and annoying but it’s so unprofessional.
Dude, the level of smugness I saw from her was hilarious It's like asking a toddler if they can count from 1 to 10, then they skip every odd number and still end up looking at you with triumph
yal are all wrong, charlie completely botched his entire explaination of this event. she brought up a 400 view tiktok post because that post was calling for this specific congress to be murdered, only tiktok and congress even knew about the meetup, tiktok/ccp made the tiktok to try and get americans to murder congress. the reason people keep cutting off the ceo is because they only have 5 minutes each and need to spend their time perfectly.
The hearing wasn't to question TikTok, it was for the people in congress to reaffirm to themselves that they think they know what they are talking about.
My problem with this whole thing is how there is litterally people dying to school shootings and instead of spending time on working/fixing that the government is busy dealing with unimportant cases like this. It is honestly sad to me.
A good deal of your politicians having a spyware app on their phone that feeds directly to China is a kind of a big deal, actually. Especially if they handle sensitive information.
@@matmat9644 this country is so dumb man, it sucks that people my age and around it have to deal with the worrying thought of having a shooter in the building
@@OncelerKidsAreCringe I’m just saying it would be more important to focus on serious topics rather than TikTok, especially when people who have no clue what the case is about are representing it
Im just super proud of charlie. He stuck to his word about putting more effort into his reaction videos. He keeps us up to date on news but instead of just sitting and watching the video with his viewers he constructs a concise intro to explain the video contents, then splices his thoughts throughout.
Her continually saying yes is pretty much her thinking she won an argument because she didn't let him talk. "my question was so good, look at him. Flabbergasted with no response after I only gave him .04 seconds time. I'm so good at this."
They have a set limited time for their questions, so they try to get in as much as possible so that they can clip it and use it for campaigning back home (and they know from previous hearings of this kind - that if they actually let the guy answer, it would end up taking up most of their allotted time slot) most of em are just cynical opportunists trying to advance their domestic political careers

My favorite part was when they asked “Mr. Chew, does tiktok support genocide?” And he replied “why yes, yes it does” and proceeded to morb out of the room
Can we get a movie about this hearing where they copy word for word the questions asked but have Ryan Reynolds playing the CEO and just answering as sarcastically as possible lol
The terrifying reality is that the bill intended to ban TikTok can change the internet as we know it. If Bill s.686 (The Restrict Act) passes, it will grant officials the control of any form of technology that has access to the internet, along with your privacy. This is a very important topic to look into because the TikTok Congressional Ban could bring many other terrifying changes to the internet.
Yes, this should be stopped. If this is true, it’s an obvious path of light that shows the inevitability of corruption, I’m scared America will become like Nazi Germany.
Always post the full information. It goes specifically to technologies and software from certain adversaries of the US (Iran,China,Russia,North Korea,Etc.) Not domestic products or services.
Plenty of VPNs and illegal pirate apps exist, I use them all the time, I highly doubt the government can even control the internet even if they tried. Not even the owners of the social media apps can control it.
Agreed; after all, it’s a congressional hearing trial, so every motion is like one in a court hearing. I never see countless comments or even RU-vid videos start spoofing lawyers for asking if OJ Simpson was an American football player! 😂
one of the scariest things is that a lot of people gained trust in tiktok because of this as if they were worthy of trust solely due to incompetent politicians
Not understanding tech doesn't mean there are risk with such a big social media company being based out of China, especially when it comes to US and China geopolitics
The fact that this comment doesn't have more likes scares me. Then again, I'm sure people who watch this guy's channel are a bunch of TikTokers themselves lol
I Googled her to see what people were saying about her responses and I found her personal government website which funny enough is labeled by Google as a non-fully secured website that attackers can get access to. She's so concerned about security she didn't even secure her own website
they dont let him speak because last time they did a trial for idiotic bans was with heavy metal and dee snider, he made nothing but perfect sense and all they could do was put the parental advisory on CD's and stuff
I’ve seen multiple congress “debates” and this is all it is, people ask questions and then expect just a yes or no answer even though most of the questions require much more than yes or no
1:25 Funnily enough, the Tiktok CEO himself even made the point that no government official should have any social media apps installed on their phones.
About that hearing, that's standard for a congressional hearing because theres a disconnect between the witness and the representative. The representative is VERY crunched for time and wants very short succinct answers in the form of a yes or a no but the witness more often than not wants to delve into the nuance and "save face" by offering an explanation. In court, any court, congressional or otherwise, everyone making the inquiries do not want any more information than what they prompt you for. Offering more information than what was asked is simply not acceptable in a hearing format because its highly probable the witness will try to confuse you with detail. Basically, the more opportunity you have to speak, the more opportunity you have to lie - or incriminate yourself.
whats interesting is that there was another congress woman who asked genuine questions about racism in tiktoks algorithm and the ceo was really listening and taking notes so he could properly answer them. imagine how much more productive this could've been if the others actually understood what they were talking about. or if they at least knew the difference between china and singapore
"If they at least knew the difference between china and singapore" I personally never take something like that seriously, because we also can't tell the difference between every nationality in Europe too. I'm pretty sure majority of Asians don't even know the difference between British and English, so I don't think it's fair to expect otherwise from them.
@hamoIQ black panther was a bad movie tho ngl that's understandable but the new Stat wars weren't too bad they really couldn't of done too much else with the story tbh
recently it became even more goofy as tom cotton just could not understand that the tiktok CEO is SINGAPOREAN, i swear he doesn't know what Singapore is
The biggest issue here is. There are legitimate concerns to address when it comes to tiktok and how it's managed. Just none of them bothered looking into any of them
It’s actually insane how good they are making this man look. I full heartedly can not understand how that lady ever got to the position she was in, when she talks like that in court. She’s acting like she’s on to something and the fact he’s not responding in yes or no seems to fuel her need to cut him off. Also there’s this dude in the background that look’s asleep.
It's pretty easy. Sell out your beliefs and be lucky. If it took hard work the people there would actually care. No one cares about the actual person it's who they will vote for to be majority leader. You can have the best representative ever but if they vote for the other party you disagree with you're better off voting against them. Why? Who controls the house and senate is picked by a handful if that of seats ie the senate being barely in democrats control. If they lose I think 1- 3 Republicans control it and comes huge change similar with the house but a few more seats. Sad but that's the state of our congress and won't get better since no one will give up power.

I've never been more embarrassed to be an American than I was during that TikTok hearing. I had second hand embarrassment, first hand embarrassment, post embarrassment, pre embarrassment, I don't know if the embarrassment will ever go away. I've never been so embarrassed in my life about anything.
charlie is right about how tiktok is detrimental to the mental health of kids. i remember this one time a girl stitched a video of a girl with "big birthing hips" and said she was literally going to kill herself because some of them can't have those. wtf lmao
1:50 - they’re actually there to stop copyright but people started to get accustomed to a 2nd video playing underneath it. Some people on tiktok openly make fun of it but also openly admit they can’t really watch story videos or clips without that 2nd video.
Chinese tik tok promotes stem to kids. American tiktok promotes racial and gender ideologies to children. Propaganda works, and these selective algorithms amplify messages meant to divide us. And it works.
@LadPasta what institutional power do they wield? Because from what I can tell the left controls, the media, colleges, public schools, the fbi/dhs, social media, silicon valley
@Andrew Peng the China ones are blatant racism Facebook uses our data, youtube, amazon, yet the attack the Singaporean guy because hes the "china man"

i just caught a hacker red handed friday and was able to say "I TOLD YOU SO" to a competitor company my org was forced to deal with because just like this, people who dont understand technology are making decisions about the technology. we need an entire new class of lawyers that are specific for digital law. you cant make a law if you dont understand the thing youre trying to govern.
A large portion of the stupid questions are their to establish a fact and not genuinely asking them, in court you have to establish something before it can be used
This reminds me when Mark Zuckerberg had to explain how how the Internet works to the congress, and answering simple questions that they could’ve researched themselves. Edit: Oh shit Moist already mentioned it but oh well.
they coulda prepped with someone who knew shit, got their internets101, asked all their dumb questions, and then created some actual decent ones..... BUT NO.
Yea and the technologically handicapped and fearmongers ran with it. Making clips to infinity about some of the dumbest parts of the entire thing just like they will do with this. Too many people don't understand that the one app they are scared of/hate is accessing the same data being accessed by pretty much all the other apps out there as well.
They don't actually want the answers. This is just a performance for them to use in ads and campaigning, so they can clip themselves and pretend they're doing something

9:51 It's okay to give Hudson some charitable credit, only because he was one of the few that at LEAST let him answer. And was also not snarky about it. It was a very dumb question, and letting them speak is the bare minimum. But it was relieving compared to the others interrupting him every 5 seconds.
The bigger issue at hand is that Tiktok does everything US based social platforms do. So to take TikTok to task, you would need to also take Twt, FB, even Google to task. And they won't do it
Exactly. They need to either hold it all accountable, or let TikTok slide if they’re going to ignore the other platforms. It’s irritating when people aren’t consistent and always make stupid exceptions.
Yup this is comment I was looking for. Much more deeper sinister issues at hand, Tiktok is just a drop in the ocean of it all but we need to start somewhere.
"Congressman, you have the floor" "Okay Mr. Tiktok guy, explain to me why I only get thirst traps, and femboys on my for you page." "Sir, that's just your algorithm..." "Enough of this Chinese nonsense!"
As a science teacher here in Arizona, the attention span issues are problematic but handleable in all honesty. If you connect with your audience (students in my case) they pay attention. If you ban something people will find ways around it.
Hope you realize the attention span issues isn't the only problem right, at least not for now. This kids will have a harder time learning in the future due to this and that will make america generally dumber in a few decades, while the chinese are focusing in studies and advancement of technology and the worst part is china will know more about all the kids using tiktok now than their parents.

There is actually a very good part of this congressional hearing where they bring up the fact that there are a lot of ‘coincidences’ surrounding the TikTok CEO
Not even old, just willingly ignorant. Why would they educate themselves on anything. (Because that requires real work lol) It’s the US government they get paid millions to be toddlers and sit in their high chairs and spit up on their gold bibs.
What's sad is that they're not even that old. The lady in this video is 35, born in 1988, she's a Millennial. They're just career politicians with no real-world experience pushing an agenda.
I'm tired of this as the big example everyone points too. It's not even result of his age or lack of technology awareness. (I do admit many and maybe even him, are too out of touch) He was asking questions like a lawyer, laying a foundation, get him to say the obvious things to get to the real question. I wish he included the full clip. Does tik tok use wifi? Yes. And are there usually other devices that also use WiFi on one network? Yes. Can and does tik tok access information about or from those other devices. It's laying it out for people who may not understand how WiFi works.
