Smart Cookie No shit, just because it’s a cartoon doesn’t mean its jokes can’t contain a serious critique on America’s educational system, where our children are all taught the same way and thinking outside of the norm is discouraged. Classic Simpsons had a ton of these jokes; it doesn’t matter that it’s a cartoon/comedy if the underlying message is true.
@@sandyliao1394 No, it's not. That's how you tenderise tough meat. Beef takes 2-4 hours depending on the cut. Horse and octopus can take up to 8 hours.
@@reinebautistamercado4286 Not under a broiler, that's direct high heat. Two hours in there will turn anything to charcoal. You're thinking of braising, which is cooking in a small amount of liquid under relatively low, indirect heat. And lamb chops are already tender anyway, cooking them that way will just make them fall apart.
Notice that at the beginning, the video glitches a bit when the sheep walks in front of the baby sheep, and Homer responds with "Out of the way, you!". LOL
If anything it's too absurd now. It's missing the multi-layered humor it used to do so well. It's missing characters that are still actual characters and not caricatures. It's missing animation that isn't sterile and lifeless.
It's very clever to have Lisa imagine the worm talks the same way as the lamb. The Simpsons hasn't been clever since 1997. What it has been is an easy way to fill 22 minutes of network programming, trying to dupe people into thinking the quality has not diminished by increasing the resolution, and charging exorbitant advertising rates.
Ned had to banish them from his family because they had to rock and roll with their child in front of Rod and Todd. The parents are needing an advice from Homer.
So basically, there was a legal contract signed which stated that Lisa had to remain a vegetarian until the end of the series? Why did the writers and producers agree to sign such a lop sided contract just for one stupid cameo? It started Lisa down the path towards being a REALLY annoying character.... Also, if Lisa goes back to eating meat, does that mean that Paul and Linda can sue FOX or the writers of the Simpsons in real life?
Fortunately hot dogs are far less exotic than that. They are usually just ground pork/beef because it’s cheap and readily available. Can you imagine hunting down enough raccoons to satisfy humans’ hotdog hunger? Impossible! Just use the existing animals we farm and slaughter en masse. Exotic meat is very expensive. Common meat is not. Cheap meat is made from common meat sources simply because it is economical.
I don't get all the rants about Lisa in the comment section. I understand that yes, trying to force people to stop eating meat is bad because that's none of her business or decision what so ever. However, all the others wanted her to eat meat as well. By the end of the episode before she discovers that she's eating a veggie hot dog she was actually giving in to the pressure and doing something she didn't believe was right just so she could please the others. That's pretty rough on a kid who just made a personal choice to be turned down by the majority. No, she shouldn't try and force others into her believes as none of us should but she wasn't the only one who did mistakes in this episode.
99thJediWarrior Bart and Homer were the only ones trying to force her yes, but the other characters weren't supportive of her choice either. She was still almost forced to dissect a live worm as her ethical choices weren't tolerated as an excuse, and they didn't have any vegetarian options in the cafeteria, only giving her a hot-dog bun and they all laughed at her for bringing gazpacho to the BBBQ. On her way to Kwik-E-Mart her classmates are mocking her. By nobody supporting her and two of her own family members fighting her decision (yes I know Homer and Bart aren't characters you would expect would support such a thing) it's pretty rough on a kid. I'm not saying she didn't do anything wrong in the episode as I also finds her overreacting towards Homer and she shouldn't have destroyed the BBBQ, but nobody else seemed to want to understand or accept her decision either, but rather mock her for it.
MrBeetlejuice16 Yea, but that didn't mean that they were forcing her to eat meat, either. They may not have liked her decision, but they certainly didn't make her eat meat.
+MrBeetlejuice16 Around the time this episode aired vegetarian's were seen as weird and dumb. The story's of many getting sick due to lack of vitamins from no longer eating meat were out there. Now a days you can go Veggie but back then being vegetarian for some people was in some ways like you were coming out gay. Luckily that's not the case and more. In this Bart and Homer are doing what they want they think it's ridiculous to make some choice about food just because of one experience. Marge more then likely just worried about Lisa's diet and didn't want her to get sick, I believe she did say something in the episode. If want to compare this to another show, it's called Braceface. The lead character Sharon becomes a veggie after going to a slaughter house. At first she's like Lisa trying to get everyone to eat veggie but by the end she knows that it's a choice and thus just gives the option to others, but the bad girl in the show makes it seem like Sharon is just trying to change everyone to make herself feel better. Now in the episode I speak of to compare, Sharon starts feeling sick due to her lacking in her diet, she needed iron but wasn't eating enough veggies with iron in them, mostly just salads. A boy she met and became friends with, hints of a crush too, in some ways tricked her in to eating meat, though sometimes I wonder about it because of certain factors in the show. He does admit he did it because he was worried about her but Sharon get angry and I don't even remember seeing the guy again. He had no malice in his intentions but Sharon took it that way. Sad really. Lucky for me I'm covered if one of my kids wants to be veggie. Though I have a feeling like most young kids they will give up, older one's though should make it with the right meals.
+MrBeetlejuice16 That's true, and that was the point of her talking to Apu and the McCartneys at the end. Apu tells Lisa to learn to tolerate others instead of trying to force her beliefs on them.
It's the reason so many people hate school - a lot of teachers think that they're always right and that attitude discourages independent thinking, even though the curriculum is meant to encourage it.
@Far East Creative Media tbh I think you show yourself to be far less capable of thinking independently. taking someone's legitimate objections to eating meat (health, taste, morality), and then dismissing them as being brainwashed by an organisation who honestly aren't relevant at all anymore is the sign that you can't comprehend what it means to express your individuality. I say this as somebody who fucking loves meat.
It’s Interesting that in the Simpsons you’re supposed to sympathize with Lisa for not wanting to eat meat but in Futurama Matt Groening basically says is that if you don’t eat meat you’re worthless. Either somebody else wrote that line in Futurama he or this guy needed to make up his mind.
As a vegetarian, this video is 100% accurate. In order to join the "eating green life style" cult, we all must hug a animal infant (preferably a lamb because snakes are quite vicious, and don't even get me started on the wild wolf pups), but you only truly become a Veggie Soldier when you began to have guilty visions about said animal.
This is a masterclass in how to write an episode that touches on sensitive issues. Satire and irreverent humor are blended perfectly, and it's thought-provoking without being preachy.
A lot of people unfortunately don't seem to grasp how to present something in a way that is thought provoking and nuanced without instead simply resorting to being preachy and judgmental.
@@johnwalker1058 Yeah, I'm thinking about some episodes of _Family Guy_ with a political theme. Some good jokes, but it takes a clear side rather than giving a more balanced overview of the subject, and has no subtlety in its message.
This episode made me go vegetarian. My sister and I bet each other who could go longest not eating meat, and later that night we had pork chops. I did the “I thought you loooooved me” with the chop to my sister. She lost that night and I’m still winning, 20 years later.
Best part is the Flanders family reunion with every single family member saying "HI DILLY HO, NEIGHBORINO!" and "OKILLY DOKILLY!" in unison. So many Flanders . . . haha. But nothing beats "PLEEEEEASSSE LISSSSSA, III THOOOOUGHT YOU LOOOOOOVED MEEEEEEEEEE!"
the whole reason homer wants his own bbq is to stick it to ned about not inviting himself to a family reuinion ned: can I come...homer: yeah..sure...doh! lol why does the worm talk like a lamb!...this bbq will require hours of rigorous unthankful work ..but I'm sure your up for it marge...lol
FUN FACT: Paul McCartney who guest starred in the episode (along with his late wife Linda) agreed to play himself on the condition that Lisa would permanently become Vegetarian.
@Far East Creative Media nobody has to be an omnivore, most people are omnivores because it’s normal. By your logic, us omnivores are brainwashed by meat-eating traditions.
@Far East Creative Media Vegetarians and vegans are fine, except for those that make their animals vegan, PETA, toxic vegans saying that eating an animal is the equivalent of eating a human person and those that force veganism down your throats
@Far East Creative Media like whut? Many vegans and vegetarians dont have anything to do with Peta, they (vegeterians) just dont want to kill animals for getting meat. Some are part of thos organisation, but a big part one day maybe saw a documentation or just thought abiut it and decided not to eat anymore, cause of moral reason or health benefits, ir because they saw how awfully treated farm animals are.
@Far East Creative Media yeah omnivors, means we can eat almost everything but we dont have to. Some human beings dont eat anything but meat, and some eat no meat at all, I myself eat meat once a week. You can easily replace meat with eggs for example, they have the Vitamins (vitamin B12) and amount of protein you just get from animals.
I felt like Lisa, when I went to Reno. I couldn't find any restaurants that had a vegetarian option, so I had to settle for pancakes at Mel's Drive In :) I still had fun! LOL
+Dronning10 Lets be sensible just for one minute...i can accept the tongue of a boot in my hot dog...but making me "digest" the very thought of a Raccoon(s) paw in my Dog is unacceptable...NO Sir I will Not "Swallow" that LIE
