This is actually my favorite MA album, there's so much depth to the album that's uncovered upon multiple listens. For a Death Metal album, it's definitely twisted, and even psychedelic at parts. So many twists and turns on this album, and the next one, Gateways to Annihilation does Doom Metal better than most actual Doom bands. It's a shame people wrote this era off because of the vocals, this Morbid Angel serves a completely different purpose than Dave's time with the band. Trey wanted to get away from the commercial direction Dave was taking them, and the result was two of the best Death Metal albums of all time, this and Gateways to Annihilation.
There were some great moments on this album. You're right about the twists and turns. Sometime soon I'm going to shut myself away from the world and listen to all these albums again.
James Reed You are 100% right dude! FFTTF is my favorite album, and their best album in my opnion. Steve Tucker era is better than everything else they did. Formulas and Gateways are the fucking best!
invocation of the continual one is my favourite off of the album, even more crazy to consider that all of the riffs on that song were written in 1984. also trey sings on that one instead of steve tucker
But its not crazy , Thats why Invocation have this "Victim of changes " KK downing vibe . Especially before the solo , the riff is so " heabang right to left with your guitar ; and stuff ...
23:05 The holy shit comment you made at the middle part of Chambers is exactly what I said when I first heard it years and years ago 😂 welcome to Petes drumming!!!
I bought the shirt for this album in 1998 and was still wearing it till about 2010 when it finally fell apart haha. I was listening to this album on Friday at work.
You sweated for the metal overlords there, superb. Altars, blessed & covenant are still my favorites but cos it’s your video I happily listened to FFTTF again, great video. Stay clear of their album Illud Divinum Insanus, it’s as many celebs and MP’s would say as an excuse for poor judgment it’s a moment of madness 😉
Long time no see ;) But it's on me mate. Don't get a lot of time for this nowadays. Anyway, the Steve Tucker period in Morbid Angel is my favorite. I remember when the fans were pissed at FFF, demanding David Vincent back (Being that they forgot about the disaster that was Domination). Still, FFF and "Gateways to Annihilation" are my favorite MA albums. It's just that to me, Trey got to express much more maturity on guitar and on the instrumental (And ambient) tracks. Tucker maybe more one dimensional vocalist, but he is more brutal than David, more passionate, more honest in his singing. Even in his stage performance, he is a beast due to love of death metal, while David seems like he is promoting his own image. In interviews too. Well, "illud divinum insanus" proved to me beyond doubt, that David should've never returned to the band... Possibly one of the worse metal (In general) albums of all time. Not that the new one with Steve is amazing, but at least it sounds like Morbid Angel again. "Invocation of the continual one", my favorite Morbid Angel song, out of all of them. 57:29 Two Russian girls, tatu ;)
I think if David didn't come back in 2004, I'd have more respect for him. He ruined it for me with the latex pentagram outfit, Illud and fucking up Bil Ur-Sag every night.
I've never heard of Morbid Angel, but I like it. And this is from 1998? I don't know how I overlooked this band and album! Thanks for the introduction! Also, I like how you sing The Primitives- Crash early in the vid. You have such diverse taste in music.
Holy shit this is quality content 😂 Thank you for having a good laugh in this rough times. I felt in love with Morbid Angel recently and got your video in recommended. Sub
The music press was ignoring Morbid Angel and death metal in general at the time and praising Limp Bizkit and Korn (and Slipknot and other metal flavored pop rock bands) as THE NEW FACE OF METAL. All the while I knew it was just a passing trend, death metal is eternal!
I just finished my first listen for this album (while washing my hair haha) and I fucking love it. I’ll be scouting out the record sometime soon I’m sure!
Well, there's not a lot of point having any intro at the moment. Today's episode has been worldwide blocked. I spent a week on it too! Ha ha! More fool me. But I think I need to seriously re-evaluate how I spend my time! Perhaps I should seriously consider the torture-porn route?
These worldwide blocks are a real ff’ing pain in the ff’ing rear end. Maybe do some slightly older albums only, would that fix the problem? Torture porn with the artists or companies that do these blocks is also a great idea.
Btw, about the lack of drummers in the interludes, I think that these interludes perfectly set up the next track and shouldn't be considered as separate songs, more like something you add to Umulamahri for example
I'm not going to give you a thumbsdown even though I prefer Steve on vocals (you cannot beat that brutality). This was very fun to watch. The swan had me cracking up. I bought this album on a whim like 20 years ago and didn't like it right away, but then one day, I decided to smoke and give it another go. I've since seen Morbid Angel live twice since Steve Tucker's return. Subscribed.
From a record signing in 1998, Trey stated the last song on this album, was supposed to sound like a video game soundtrack. It was meant to be a joke song. I used to hate it the song, but considering this is my favorite album by the group. The song eventually grew on me. Hope that clears that up! Cheers!
You are the only person in youtube to react to Invocation of the continual one, you should feel superior haha! It's the greatest Death metal song of all time
Morbid Angel's 3 first albums (Altars, Blessed, Covenant) are the pinnacle of death metal in my humble opinion, though Formulas is indeed a great album as well. While all the other "metal-reactors" generally listen to crappy D-grade metal, having someone listen to and enjoy the true classics brings joy to me. Keep doing what you're doing, pal.
I should give Steve more of a chance. Perhaps you end up preferring the singer you heard first? That's often the case with favourite albums and favourite Bond actors.
@@ashencold5474 Yeah, the beauty of Steve is that you always know to expect quality crushing Death Metal no matter what it is. With Vincent you can get Industrial-Techno Metal, Country or Death Metal. The first of those being the most likely, unfortunately. It does help that the writing for albums Steve's been on has been absolutely incredible, imo.
Not a great fan of the vocals but can’t deny the energy on the record. You’re a man who sweats for his craft and deserves more views for sheer entertainment despite some of the music selections.
Have you ever heard of Foals? If you're into math rock check out their stuff. Also if you want another black metal album check out Litourgiya by Batushka. Love the vids and new intro, keep up the good work!
Agreed. But the price of records has soared and everybody is taking advantage. It's a con really. I chucked most of my records away in the 90s and now I'm a grade A mug!!!
Haha, I worked in a record store for about ten years and you can't imagine how many people said the exact same thing to me over the years. Literally repurchasing all the records they sold years before. But yes, I agree, records in general are very overpriced these days, I've especially noticed since leaving the shop. No more discount! :( Makes me much more selective about what releases I go for.
Antony Jones I'm kinda selective... but I need to buy them to do these episodes! I do however often buy a different record by the artist than the one suggested purely due to it being cheaper!
These episodes are much appreciated. It may be a small channel currently but I believe you have a small but strong following. I understand the struggle though as a collector. Really I do lol
Never heard of this band? But its nice that you try out different genres. And that way ppl can discover new stuff. I don´t know if you ever thought about this, or be up for it. But a lot of channels. who provide reactions. Sometimes get post-office box. Where subscribers can send them stuff. And sometimes even set up paypal account. So ppl can donate money. Its nice what you are doing. But I can´t imagine viny records are that cheap, in the long run lol. Especially IF ppl, want more content from you. And if you ofc have the time to do so. It´s just a suggestion. But perhaps it something you already thought of, but wasn´t interested in :) Love the intro btw!
I appreciate the advice. In fact a few people have wanted to send me records but I have so far sidestepped the issue. I'm not really a big enough channel to worry about these things but I'll tell you something... you're right about vinyl costing me a fortune... but worse still is how long it takes me to produce these videos!!! But I choose to do it and I (mostly) enjoy it... so no violins necessary! Ha ha! I will consider your advice. Thanks again.
Please do! It´s your channel and your decision I respect that. I believe you can even do them without revealing too much personal info. I mean this name here is prob what you could use for the post box and some sort of donation account. IMaybe someone else knows better for sure. But having that said. You do what works for you. Im happy with whatever. Ha, I can imagine about the videos. And no doubt, its also a question about free time to be able to do so. Cheers!
@@mercurialno6 Yes please! I've been highly anticipating another Morbid Angel reaction, and I've been re watching your previous reactions just cause I enjoy them so much. Hope to see another one! \m/
Good idea. I have to do something differently as I've just had another worldwide block on a video I spent the whole week on. :-( More fool me. I know I'm playing with fire. I should play safe and just talk a load of bollocks about nothing... hey, wait a minute...
Really wish this album had the same production as Gateways To Annihilation, it would then be my favourite Morbid Angel album EASILY. Definitely their most creative album but it suffers to the lack of high production that Morbid Angel is known for.
Fff in its nature is actually a militaristic record, thats why it has an industrial vibe also, Trey loves big mech manga style, like Robotech or Eva, full destruction stuff, so Its very apparrent to this record
Pete Sandoval and Trey azathoth are the best that has ever done it in my just honest opinion, and I know that has no value, but I'm happy you enjoy the best drummer, and guitarist alive, heretic I'm 2003 was the last album Pete and Trey done together before Pete left for light,it would be worth your time, and it a double disk
Tucker > Vincent. I am pretty sure that this album and Gateways to Annihilation influenced Behemoth to become more death metal since the mid era Behemoth sound a lot like these 2 Tucker albums, which came around the time Behemoth changed their sound to black/death
Could you review some more Jazz please? I'm a big fan of Free Jazz so anyone like Albert Ayler, Ornette Coleman etc would be great. Also my recommendation would be Here Lies Man - Here Lies Man. Imagine Sabbath playing Afrobeat. One of the most unique bands doing the rounds at the moment.
The Mercurial Number Six maybe, they had a top ten hit that peaked at number 3 in the US, it was called Pumped Up Kicks. I think you would like them they are kinda poppy but experimental at the same time, they use a lot of synths :).
Rylee Osmond I thought it was about time. I'm not saying it's any good... but I find myself rewinding it to watch it again. That's either narcissism... or I just enjoy the combination of Hawaiian shirt and vinyl flicking. I am still after little snippets of video/photo from viewers to insert into future episodes. I will do a video specifically about this one day. I'm just too busy right now!
