I was shocked when I learned that the rotf version was a completely new mold from the original Animated toy. It's such a faithful adaptation of this design to the live action aesthetic, I was convinced it was a retooling of the original until I saw it had completely different engineering.
How they did it is a simple legs being the whole length of the car +little more, making it so he stands at basically a car and a half tall. So unique and rarely used again
@@grubeater9056 sure you can. Squeeze all the panels into the lower legs. If not then hide the entirety of the legs under the car or under some panels. Hasbro doesn't prioritize any articulation over 90⁰, with some exceptions
@@grubeater9056I have dotm Topspin which transforms in a similar way and it has pretty good articulation, including an ankle tilt, a double jointed knee and a waist swivel. It is missing a thigh swivel, but the legs are on ball joints so there is some movement there to somewhat compensate for that. With modern engineering I'm sure it's possible to make a fully articulated figure transform that way.
I have a funny story about this figure. When I was a kid, I'd somehow found his legs at a thrift store and recognizing who they belonged to, my goal as a kid was to someday find a Lockdown body to attach them to. Instead, as an adult, I found a complete version of the figure for $30 at my local comic store. I believe Micheal Mercy would refer to that as "completing some unfinished business".
Michael Mercy hit me up if I wanted to be on his podcast and never responded when I said yes so I guess he's not the best at completing unfinished business lol I had something similar happen with 2007 Dropkick. Found a partial one at the thrift store, and found another partial one at the flea market, and combining them gave me a complete figure. It was really satisfying!
I have a similar story about rid thundertron I got him for my birthday from my grandparents when it first came out and I loved it. one day at a party a kid threw it at a wall bc he was mad at me and I was heartbroken Years later I bought one mint in box for $40
I love that you can take the engine/emp off of the shield piece and it attaches to Ratchet's arm, over his 'war wound'. It worked with both the earth and cybertronian versions of Ratchet.
Same for Animated Oilslick. Quite the tall mofo for the size class. But, those were the exception, not the norm. And as for how tiny Voyagers have been since Siege...just know that way back in Classics, they weren't all that big either - Siege & Earthrise Optimus both just happened to be the exact same height in robot mode as Classics Voyager Optimus.
I had two friends who had an incomplete Lockdown, both let me have them and together it was complete. There were no spare parts so each had the exact parts that the other was missing. It was definitely a euphoric moment.
The lockdown we should’ve gotten in AOE all the had to do was use the parts of his kills as his own mods and it would’ve been perfect and added just that much more to his villainous vibes
Had him since he came out. One of the best figures from an amazing line of figures. The figures weren’t always perfect or accurate, but they were closer than any other line before or since and they’re all super unique, fun toys. Truly one of the greatest Transformers toylines of all time.
Yeah I was gunna say... that original AOE one is gross. lol I'd say the ROTF one is the best Lockdown we've gotten so far, but fingers crossed we get a Legacy one someday!
it’s still impressive to me how long this guy gets, the only figure to come close since was the rotf/hftd figure of him, but nobody’s gonna take his throne, it’s such a dramatic transformation in only a few steps and i love it.
Man I wish they had taken notes on this and NEST Lockdown for Studio Series! AOE SS Lockdown is a good figure, they just could’ve made him a wee bit taller
I USED TO HAVE THIS GUY! I don't remember how I found it but it didn't have that middle part which was upsetting but I think it looked cool when I was younger
He has the parts count and weight of a contemporary Deluxe, but he's so perfectly engineered to concertina out of his car mode into a jumbo Frankenstein desperado that he almost stands neck and neck with Leader Megatron.
Essentially they based the size class on the vehicle modes instead of the robot back then so all that mass shifting made him a deluxe despite towering over all the voyagers
That was from a time hasbro sold their Transformers in vehicle mode. Knowing Hasbro they would sell this as a leader with a couple of useless accesories.
This is why I loved the older shows and toys. The average Armada toy was comparable in size to either Deluxe Lockdown or an average Voyager from Animated. That’s not to say the toys from animated weren’t good though, they were all very fun with the varying sizes even among the same class of toys, for example Deluxe Bumblebee is actually pretty big compared to Deluxe Prowl while Voyager Bulkhead was pretty short compared to others Voyagers like Blitzwing or Optimus. Compared to the average Transformers toy today, the older stuff were just so much better.
Erm - excuse me but I think you'll find that actually Devastator is the on that is the "Shaquille O'Neal of Transfromers Toys" in that its an incredible toy but never should have been in films
Nowadays people spend more on more bad ones! I got chase for £24.99 and it was good but when I got crosshairs for 26.99 we all know what happened to the clear plastic head
OOOOHHH WAIT!! I have an Animated Blurr and it transformas almost the same way and its also abnormaly large! Were they retools pf eachother in any way??
Translating to modern inflation rates, the toy would be about $15. Still cheaper than modern deluxes and voyagers, but not by as much. It also had less plastic and parts separation.
@Jcc2224 Transformers has only one "Back in the day" you young wippersnapper. And that is when Bumblebee was a Volkswagen Bug. Before Ironhide, Ratchet and Prowl joined the Matrix.
I don't mind AOE Lockdown voice but the alt mode was a bad decision especially for figures. You have a slim little lambo when we could've had a bulky muscle car!
