I didn’t get to know him much, but my Grandfather was from Lithuania. I try to learn something about my heritage in bits. I love this dance! Thank you for this post.

I'm of Lithuanian descent as well, but do not know much of this side of my heritage. They sure look like they're having fun though, don't they? :-)

Vieną kartą tikiuosi, kad galėsiu taip šokti! Tai taip gražu, kad neįsivaizduoju, kiek daug talentų jie įdėjo.

I live in a small town with a large Lithuanian population -- Lemont, Illinois. There are also lots of Polish people here. Some of the kids I went to high school with, back in the 1970's, were Lithuanian. I developed an interest in their culture, which they found amusing. And so, they taught me how to say things like "Pabučiuok man į šikną". The French teacher lost it when I wrote that on his chalkboard. I was not one of his students, but later that day one of the Lithuanian kids in his class went up to him and said, "Excuse me, do you know what that means?" In 1984 the catholic church sold DeAndreis Seminary, which was located in Lemont. The state wanted to buy the facility and convert it into a minimum security prison. The town went nuts, and the Department of Corrections eventually gave up on that idea. At that point the Lithuanians bought the property and turned it into the Lithuanian World Center. There has always been a catholic chapel there, but now the masses are said in the Lithuanian language. There is also a huge Polish catholic church here, which looks like it belongs in Rome. The original wooden building, where my grandparents were married in 1906, burned down in 1928. My mom was 12 years old, and she told me how that fire lit up the night sky! The building was replaced with the aforementioned brick monstrosity which opened in 1931. The priest who served at that time was asked why he wanted such a huge building. He anticipated considerable growth, and he was right. Today there are two congregations in Polish, and three in English -- St. Cyril & Methodius. My mom's dad installed the heating system, but by then the Great Depression was in full swing and he never got paid for that job. There is also the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago here. I collect old phonograph records, and along the way I have picked up some nice Lithuanian imports. For example, Dru Lia and Pupu Dede's Polka. I speak Spanish and like to do karaoke in Mexican neighborhoods. It's very nice to see thriving ethnic groups like this. Variety is what makes humanity so beautiful. But politicians and world rulers use that variety as a "divide and conqueor" tool. The Bible promises that all of them, globally, are on a collision course with divine judgment. Bible chronology and world events make it certain that time is now just around the corner. Please, everyone -- seek justice, kindness, and meekness. That is your only way to escape the coming calamity.

I am lithuanian and my great grandma's sister moved to Lemont, a few of my other relatives did too. They have started families there and there probably still are some of my relatives in Lemont that I don't know about. If I visit the US sometime, I will make sire to visit Lemont and to perhaps find some of my far relatives still living there
